Playstation Trophies

Archive: 403 posts

The arrival of trophies on PS3 changed the way a lot of people play games for better, or worse, depending on how well they are designed and thought through, and how seriosuly the player takes them. The good ones can add a lot of fun to certain games and collecting them can be enjoyable.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a37/Blibble/trophies.jpg

So if anyone has a particular trophy they've earned and wish to share the story behind it I thought it would be fun to share it here. Any trophies you've earned recently that you're proud of? Any that your currently hunting for?
Thoughts on trophies in general.. do you think they're a good thing, bad thing, ignore them altogether and are indifferent to them?

For me one game that stands out is LittleBigPlanet as it has good and bad trophies. I love that ace all levels trophy, that was seriously fun, plus collecting all the prize bubbles takes some serious team work, it feels fantastic to work with someone and succeed on that.
A bad trophy is arguably the 'so many hearts on one of your created levels,' it was a good idea in theory but unfortunately was probably the main drive behind heart for heart, and resulted in a lot of spammed levels.

I enjoy trophy hunting, but I am careful about the ones I hunt for. I want to make sure they add to the enjoyment of a game rather than take away from them. What about you?

I have 15 platinums. Proudest are LittleBigPlanet and Batman: Arkham Asylum. So much dedication and fun getting those two.
Easiest was The Walking Dead the other day, you only have to finish the game to get all the trophies! So yes, trophies add nothing to that one, very fun game though and highly recommended for the story if you don't mind a bit of gruesome horror.

Ooh, yeah, my first platinum came from Tornado Outbreak. I love that game. Trophies weren't mega hard to get and gameplay was really enjoyable.

Unfortunately, I haven't got any second platinum trophy yet, and I don't believe I will. Seeing as I'm not that much dedicated to trophy collecting. It's all in good fun but I normally ignore those I find to be asking a bit too much of me.

I usually don't pay much attention to trophies, so many are of the completed chapter X variety it diminishes the whole system.

One game I did go out of my way to platinum was Dark Souls; I loved that game and since it was designed for multiple play-throughs it gave me a fun secondary objective.

I won't try to get any trophy that doesn't seem "fun" and I completely don't understand the point of hidden trophies that aren't any sort of spoiler; do the developers not know all trophies are just going to be listed on the internet...why be annoying about it?!?

I think complete chapter x is part of the data collecting side of trophies, publishers will use them to find how many uses complete the game and if there's a certain part where people are quiting.

There was a time when trophy lists weren't grabbed in a way that shows all the secrets and nobody would know what they were until someone unlocked them and posted the requirements. I guess it would be a way of keeping people playing your game longer.

I'm surprised Playstation Passes haven't simply bombed, I guess I'm just not one who doesn't want to pay an extra ten dollars for multiplayer for each game. Then again, I don't play many multiplayer games, so I guess my complaint is pretty moot right about now.

P.S. Are there really Pass-required games that require multiplayer achievements to be achieved for the platinum? If so, that's a little low blow imo. But I've never gotten a platinum before, so maybe I don't get how it works.

All my online passes came with the game.

And I have 0 platinums, because I don't go for any trophies. The only exception was LBP2, and I'm currently 2 trophies away from a platinum.

I need the 25 dive-in one and some other challenge that requires me getting 20 hearts or something (impossible) ;_;

The passes are free for the first buyer, they exist just to attempt to get some money from pre-ownwd sales of the game. The only figure I've seen released about their success is EA earning $10-15 million from them last year http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/09/ea-has-made-10-15-million-off-online-pass/ it's probably not that much on a per title basis but it must be enough to justify continuing the scheme.

Yeah there's several that require the pass to earn online trophies, sometime the multi has about half the trophies and sometimes its just play one game online.

Thankfully not all games require an online pass. Dark Souls and Borderlands 2 for example. Also Dead Space 2 had an online mode but no online trophies. So it's not all bad news when purchasing preowned games.
And yeah, Resistance Burning Skies. Borrowed that from a friend, probably would have gone for the platinum but no way am I paying that much money for an online pass, just for a quick trophy.

Oh, alright. Thanks for the clarification you guys. See, I remember hearing about it at first as a tactic to lower used game sales. I swore I heard something else though that pre-owned buyers also had to pay the extra money. I'm glad that's not the case at least.2012-12-07 01:22:00

I need oly one trophie for platinum in lbp 1, however it's the hearts trophy, and scince lbp2 released i've been much more intrested in that so haven't really bothered to upload any new levels to try to get the hearts. the two that I have uploaded barely even got 50 plays between them last I checked anywho .

I only need two more for the RandC qforce platinum, one for travelling a set distance via hovering and one for playing co-op (I'll probably just play level 1 with two handsets on for that.. )

No, you get the pass when you buy it in a shop, but when you buy it second-hand then you'll have to pay for an online pass. I bought my copy of Resistance in a shop but the online pass won't work. :kz: (And it IS still valid until 2014.)

I'm trying to plat Armored Core 5 with a friend at the moment. Most of the trophies can be completed in co-op. Loving it, it's a lot of fun, despite the story being rubbish. Takes a lot of skill and strategy. Will be very proud if we get it.

I was going to plat Playstation Allstars but it's just too boring going through each campaign, there's just no challenge. Might come back to it, we'll see.
Well done on getting the Okami plat guys, sounds like a much loved game that one.

It's mostly do the game on a hard mode thats just surviving to the next auto save checkpoint repeatedly and finding a bunch of collectibles.

I'd say hardest were 3D Dot Game Heroes (No patch for extra time on the dashing games) and Dead Space 2 on the 3 save run.

I loathe trophies for the compulsory metatracking. I loathe that the information is aggregated online, publicly, without your permission. It's the crippled offspring of a marriage between "retention"-reward media and web 2.0/social media, where the reward has no exchange value and the recipient has no say in the matter, except to refuse it by abstaining from the medium. There are a few schools of "debate" about the value of trophies and to what degree we as consumers should care ("duh, just don't think about them, stupid"). For now, from a business perspective, they are good economics. Hopefully in time we will have more control over them.2012-12-16 06:00:00

I never really understood the trophy hater's fascination to just go into trophy threads and say they hate them. I mean, No one cares.

@Rock

It's not to pick a fight, and it's not to steer the conversation. I don't think trophies are stupid by a long shot. I don't think people who pursue trophies are stupid. And I don't hate trophies themselves. But they affect how I play and how I shop now, and that makes me feel crappy about my hobby. Trophies are always obligatory and completely out of the consumer's control. You can't opt out of earning trophies for a game, you can only choose not to play that game. The common advice/criticism is "don't think about them! you obsessive so-and-so," and "just make a dummy account." And that's what I have resorted to, and it's not the end of the world. But I have my opinion, and I care about it as a quality-of-hobby issue, and to some extent a privacy issue. And when we eventually have accounts that must be online continuously with games assigned solely to those accounts, it will become a logistics issue. But by then I will have gone from $1500 a year to (currently $300 a year to) not playing games, because the forced metatracking finally got to be too much to bother. Saying in no uncertain terms that I'm against the way trophies are "given" isn't flagrant hate-mongering, I think.

That said, you're right, I didn't contribute anything pleasant to the conversation. The OP asked what we thought of trophies, but it's pretty clear he wasn't asking for responses like mine, and like I said, I'm not trying to pick a fight. So, I will, in what must surely seem like a total contradiction of my opinion, say:

My most recent plat is also my favorite: Deus Ex in a single playthrough (with some rolling back to grab "the other choice" trophies at key moments). Just a joy to play from beginning to end and I was extremely pleased when the golds cascaded at the credits. It's a rare example of a game AND a trophy list I loved inside out. I'm very excited to get started on Dishonored, for both its gameplay and stealth-related trophies. I'm trying to wait until all the DLC comes out sometime next year, so I can get at that 100% completion all in one go.

It's a quirk! It's a dumb complaint. Call it what it is, but it is not straight up trollhate$&%'ery. I love playing games. And at times I enjoy trophy hunting. But I stand by it: the forced metatracking is awful. The fact anyone can google this handle and get access to that tracking is awful. My clearance rate is a reflection of commitment to my hobby, but just as much the result of cherry-picking titles I know I can platinum to keep the clearance rate up, because every time I look at it I get a sour feeling. Maybe the next generation they'll offer some options to disable it, or at least scuttle it away for privacy.

@arbiekko I think it certainly warrants discussion, it's not just you, it's most people who hunt for trophies; it most definitely changes the way people play certain games, even if they don't realise it, and often on the way people shop for their games as well. And it would be nice to have a few more options, I agree. Maybe the option to effectively 'mute' them on certain games would be nice. If I'm stuck deep into the story of Heavy Rain or The Walking Dead, I don't really want a loud trophy popping just as it's hit a really emotional and important part of the plot, it can completely break the immersion.

I've been keen to play a couple of games, Prince of Persia Classic for example, as I played the original on the Atari ST and was intruiged to revisit an HD version. But as they didn't bother to patch it with trophies I never gave it a try.. It's a shame as it makes me realise one of my favourite games of this generation, Valkyria Chronicles won't be experienced by most, purely as Sega refused to patch it with trophies.

Then there are the Tekken games, before trophies existed I would spend a crazy amount of hours playing it, seeing how far I could get on the Survival mode, or playing Tekken 5 online trying to climb the ranked ladder. But then they put in relatively easy platinums and so upon attaining said platinums (Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag 2) I always found myself trading the game in and moving onto something else. The Street Fighter games on the other hand require you to play several hundred games online and so I spent a lot more time playing them.

Trophies can be good and bad of course. Poorly thought out trophies can ruin a game for some, as people can be too obsessive about them, puttting dozens of hours into a game that they are no longer enjoying, as it's too hard or repetitive, but trophies can add a lot to games as well, if designed properly. Something I very much enjoy is a good team work trophy. My first platinum was achieved by finally getting the last prize bubbles on LBP with my partner on some of the really trick parts of the story levels. Finally getting it through team work felt fantastic.
It really adds to the experience and wouldn't have been half as fun without that final double 'pling' at the end, to say, "You've done it!"

Good point about Tekken and games where trophies can sometimes kill the replay by making it feel "done" with metatracking. Glad that didn't happen with LBP! Although I am sure it will with Karting.

Something interesting is that Codemasters reached out to PS3Trophies to ask the community to come up with all the trophies for Grid 2. The bulk of the game is done, so there are certain limitations, but where possilbe the values, conditions and descriptions of all 40-60 trophies are up to the community. It's a very interesting experiment and one that I'd like to see more of.

Muting or disabling popups would be nice. I think having a menu option in the XMB to disable trophy tracking entirely would be nice, as well as one to make that information private -- sync it online for safekeeping, sure, but don't let it out there willy nilly like it now. Seems it should be a simple thing to implement into the firmware, and it would free people like me to enjoy all games on a single account, online or offline, on my terms, which in turn would strengthen my brand loyalty (by respecting my wish to have a modicum of control over what is, in all other social media, forums and digital accounts, easily customized), and free me to spend more money on games at launch without having to hold back and test the waters, spoil the content by researching trophies, fret about bad DLC ruining a good main game (and clearance rate), etc., etc.

I have 29 platinum trophies.

My proudest ones are probably the the ones that you have to graft for - for example being in the top 2% in the Killzone 2 rankings. Also, the hardest difficulty trophy in Killzone 2 was so flipping difficult it brought me to tears at one point.

My list:

Assassins Creed II
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham City
Borderlands
Dead Space
Fallout 3
God of War
GoW II
GoW III
GoW: Chains of Olympus
GoW: Ghost of Sparta
Heavy Rain
inFamous
inFamous 2
Killzone 2
LA Noire
Prince of Persia
PoP: The Forgotten Sands
PoP: Sands of Time
PoP: Warrier Within
PoP: Two Thrones
Resistance 2
Resistance 3
Sega Megadrive Collection
Skyrim
Sleeping Dogs
Uncharted
Uncharted 2
Uncharted 3

I'm currently at lvl 17, 72%.

Since I've been working on my LBP2 level, my urge to get trophies has definitely diminished.

I also like collecting trophies. I currently have 6 platinums.

- Assassins' Creed 2 (Just a bit of grinding and done. There were no sync requisits)
- Assassins' Creed Revelations (Really easy)
- Rayman Origins (Hard but worth it)
- Uncharted (This one was fast)
- Uncharted 2 (This one was even faster)
- Fallout: New Vegas (I'm really proud of this one. Took me a while :3)

And I just need a few trophies in LBP2 to get the platinum (25 dive ins, 50 online plays and 25 versus victories)

Trophies are a way to keep me playing the game. Unless the game's really that good or that long, I would probably leave it after a while. But trophies make me play, grind, and search until I have every tiny bit of things. It feels good.

I'd say my most proud trophy is the Michael Jackson: The Experience Platinum. So much work put into getting all those moves right, and don't get me started with the singing! As of now I'm one of 35 platinum achievers, so it's pretty rare.

A couple other tough ones were Sound Shapes(anyone try to beat survival mode?!), Rayman Origins(the last level had me ripping my hair out), and Modnation Racers(requirements for online trophies are RIDICULOUS).

Also I'm pretty proud of my LBP trophies. I have all 4 platinums to date(including DLC and Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves). The hardest was probably LBP1(acing The Bunker) and most frustrating would be LBPK (soo many trophy glitches). LBP2 and LBPV went pretty smoothly.

Currently have 27 Platinums. One I'm most proud of is probably the Demon's Souls Platinum. Most recent platinums are Gravity Rush and Uncharted on PS Vita.

I love trophies. They add a lot to games and adds that extra little push when I'm not particularly in the mood to play a game but earning trophies helps get you in the mood. Next Platinum will probably be Rayman Origins... have to replay a good bit unfortunately as I deleted it from my PSV which deleted my save data .

I guess I may care about them too much though. The lack of trophies is a big reason why I haven't finished playing either Folklore or Valkyria Chronicles, both of which are excellent games in their own right.

Also there are games that are just too much of a pain for me to be bothered earning the Trophies... MGS4 being a big example... waited for ages for the patch to come out and they give us that ridiculous trophy list. Just no.

It's not all about the platinum though, sometimes it's just a lot of fun going for specific trophies. I don't intend to plat MGS4, but I'm planning to attempt some of the new challenges presented by the trophies as they do look entertaining.2012-12-27 19:27:00

I suppose you're right. I just played MGS4 to death when it came out and got the Big Boss emblem. Ya have to play through it 8 times minimum to get the platinum. I guess I feel like I've already seen pretty much everything the game has to offer that the trophies just aren't worth it.

Then again Demon's Souls probably required way more time to platinum so maybe it isn't too bad.

Well I must admit, if I had played it 8 times already I'd be in no rush to revisit it. Maybe something to come back to at a later date, there's no rush. The MGS games are classics after all. 2012-12-28 19:23:00

I tried to platt Infamous 2, but I accidently deleted my evil save and decided to quit. Might do evil story again, since I tried cheating through the hard mode trophy and failed.

Saints Row was a joy to platinum and its DLC is quite a lot of fun. You can knock out all the trophies with virtually no effort at all, while still having incentive to do your best and experience all that the DLCs offer. They are all relatively tiny, you should know. Lots of trophies but each DLC set can be completed in under 2 hours. So that 66% complete bar will turn into 100% in the space of a night, if you want it.2013-01-07 10:45:00

I'm looking at getting the platinum for MGS Peace Walker. Takes a lot of work but it's a fun challenge, making pretty good progress so far. The co-op makes things a lot more enjoyable.
Also playing through Rage but think I'll pass on getting all the trophies on that. One of those games where you need a guide or you'll miss your chance at getting an essential collectible. It's the sort of thing that really puts me off.

Holy holiness! You guys got lots of platinums. Right now I have noy got God of War 1 & 2, Uncharted 3 and I'm really close to AC: 2' Platinum and LBPVita (that play with 4 players and win is giving me headaches), but that's a really small list. Also, I 100% Batman Arkham City but I have it for Wii U u.u2013-01-12 17:53:00

No, that's actually a pretty easy platinum, all things considered.

Just platted Sly 2 now, bumping me up to 3 platinums

I'd plat Sly 3, but the Octavio mission just kills it for me

EDIT: No, I don't mean the Octavio boss itself, which is unforgivably hard anyways, but I mean the mission in the metagame to beat him in a certain time limit

There's a new patent from Sony where they seem to be looking into finding an easy way to patch old PSone and PS2 classics with trophy support! Simply by detecting which part of the game you're accessing, it would result in that sastisfying *pling*.
But will they implement it? I hope so, I do love revisiting some of my old favourites, don't really need an excuse but added incentive is always nice.
Excited? Devastated? Confused? Hungry? Is this good, bad, or ugly news?

http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2013/03/22/sonys-trophy-patent-looking-for-new-ways-to-add-trophy-support/

-----------------

As for me, I've not managed to collect any platinums so far this year, last three were Tekken Tag 2, Armored Core 5 and Walking Dead at the end of last year. I do have over 4,000 trophies now though, pretty crazy, eh?

My platinums:
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham City
Dark Souls
Demon's Souls
Dragon Age 2
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3

I'd have to agree that the Arkham City platinum isn't all that hard to get; even the souls games platinums were just about persistance (that one bladestone achievement took way too much time though).

I'd probably have the platinum for Metal Gear Solid 4 if I played it again as well. Got everything including all the Titles but stopped playing before trophies were patched in.

Tales of Graces f

Out of curiousity, how well would you rank that game? I've been thinking of getting it as it feels like forever since I played a JRPG and I don't feel like waiting till August for Xillia.

I'd like to tackle the Batmans before PS4. Asylum is brilliant but I couldn't get past the timed challenges on the 360 and am trying to maintain as close to 100% completion as possible with PS3 trophies. The general consensus / time / young person skill investment for the Batmans does seem higher than the (admittedly fairly easy) standard for games this generation. Maybe I'm just old!

Next platinum will be for a Square Enix game, I think. I'm eager to tackle Tomb Raider, Hitman Absolution and Final Fantasy XIII but the former remain overpriced and the latter is too much of a time cost for now. Hmm.

Congrats, I didn't have the patience to get all of those, I don't like doing those puzzles where they mix up all the different parts of a photo, I don't really have the knack for it. And some of the other ones need some seriously fast reflexes.

I can't really say how many platinums I have off the top of my head but can list most of them:
1. Dragon Age: Origins (First platinum ever and I'm proud of that one. XD)
2. Dark Souls
3. Demon's Souls
4. Uncharted 2
5. Uncharted 3
6. Infamous
7. Infamous 2
8. Dragon Age 2
9. Littlebigplanet
10. Littlebigplanet 2
11. Sly
12. Sly 2
13. Sly 3
14. The Walking Dead
15. Far Cry 3
16. Need for Speed: Most Wanted
17. Mass Effect 2
18. Mass Effect 3

And I think that's all of them actually so 18 it seems I have. I'm also working on The Last of Us and Littlebigplanet Karting. Just need to win 25 races against another player for LBPK and then that's platinumed. With the Last of Us I have to beat the game on Survivor Difficulty, then beat the game on Survivor+ Diffculty (which I think will give me all the other diffculty + trophies). Then all the collecting trophies and one more multiplayer trophy to platinum it.

Patience is the key in this one. I think the hardest trophy from all was the "Digit Chase Flick and Drag" one. It needs some perfect moves and the touch screen doesn't always cooperate.

Can I ask, with you having so many platinum trophies, do you still get the sense of satisfaction when the next platinum trophy pings up? I'm on 31 plats currently, but they tend to be few and far between at the moment, so I still get the satisfaction when I hear the lovely ping sounds of the final normal trophy, and then the following platinum (side thought, they should give the platinum trophies a slightly higher ping than the normal trophies!).

Cheap games, HD collections free rentals and PS+ add up over the years. Yes I'm a single format owner, had considered a 360 earlier in the generation but things kept getting ported and eliminated the need.

Depends on how it finishes, a run through hard mode to end normally brings satisfaction but ending on collectibles doesn't as much.

Oh man, I really wish most games would do away with collectibles trophies. Especially when they require you to get 100% of them, it's so rarely fun. Hard modes can be good fun though I agree. I really hope next gen trophies in games will do away with the whole collectibles thing, unless they can actually find a way to make it genuinely enjoyable.

I liked the way Arkham City handled collectibles. You can unlock their locations on the map (forget how, question thugs?). And every set of collectibles you complete unlocks some extra dialogue tape or other background info, that made it fun for me.

Just wanted to brag about my two platinums. Lbp 2 and Pac Man Championship. Oh my god, make that three with Walking Dead. Just have to beat the game to gets plats for pac man and walking dead

It's really impressive some of you have so many. There are usually a couple of trophies that are too hard for me to reach plat. Off the top of my head Sound Shapes was super hard. I love playing Uncharted multiplayer, but I pretty much suck at it. I think a lot of the trophies are multiplayer. If I tried I think Journey would be some what easy. I would like to platinum Assasin's Creed 2, but I always lose interest in collecting the feathers. I read somebody plat Demons Souls on this thread. Good lord, that must have been hard. I have killed around 10 bosses so far and I thought that pretty impressive lol.

Well, you've already listed one (Walking Dead). Prince of Persia games are fairly easy to platinum, as are the inFamous games if you can cope with collecting all the blast shards.

The Batman games aren't too tough, apart from the challenges. But these can be very rewarding when you finally do them! Sleeping Dogs is fairly easy, as is the Megadrive (Genesis) Collection - like TWD, you pretty much just have to play through it.

2 trophies for Uncharted 2 and 3 multiplayer are required for the plat, play 1 co-op game and play 1 vs game all the other muliplayer trophies are for DLC and don't count towards the plat.

I should add that any (unrewarded) trophy with a '+' sign in the corner of the icon does not count towards the plat (ie all DLC trophies). In most games with DLC trophies, you can actually split them up between the main game, and the separate DLCs. I forget which button it is though - I think you press triangle then 'group'.

It's square on a games trophy list.

Doesn't work on some early trophy games like Prince of Persia 2008 which has the epilogue trophies added to the bottom of the list with no + sign but they're still not required to plat.

Walking Dead is certainly the easiest.
Most fun for me is probably Armored Core 5 as the whole thing can be done in co-op with a friend and it demands people work well as a team and communicate effectively. Very rewarding despite the games weaknesses. Also LBP as it has some excellent co-op moments as well.

Single player wise it would have to be the first Batman game. Clearing a challenge room flawlessly with superb combos was very satisfying.

Thanks I didn't know most of the Uncharted multiplayer trophies didn't count towards the plat. There might be hope for me after all I'll definitely remember to press square to group them and look for the plus icon.

A lot of the open world games like Infamous have that trophy where you have collect all the blast shards. I can't get motivated enough to collect all of them. Though, Sleeping Dogs seems very tempting because I really enjoy driving around in that game.

I don't have Batman or Armored Core 5, but both of those games have been on my radar for awhile. Also, I should really try to get the LBP 1 trophies. I haven't played that game in so long. Would be fun just to go back to it.

I think the easisiest Platinum I have is... PSASBR. The trophies are a joke. The MP trophies are a triple joke. Just play some matches online and they will unlock. The only hard thing is to end every single Arcade but it is actually a fun challenge and the only thing this Platinum is hard at.2013-08-01 06:37:00

Just make sure you have a keen co-op partner if you decide to pick up AC5. Servers are pretty empty now.
I'll be picking up the sequel in September, Armored Core: Verdict Day. Hopefully the servers aren't spilt this time and UK people will be allowed to team up or take on players in the US. We shall see.

As for Batman, it is widely regarded as one of the best games of this generation so well worth picking that up, you won't be disappointed. I prefer it to the second game, but they're both fantastic.

Completing Uncharted on Crushing can test your impatience a bit, but it's not too bad. Has anyone else got the Killzone 2 plat? Completing that on the hardest difficulty literally brought me to tears. Mainly due to the assault on Radec's base, and the actual battle inside it.

I don't have any of the LBP plats, never really been interested in getting them.

I was just looking at the lbp 1 trophies. Your levels have to be hearted by 50 people. Seeing as I don't have any lbp 1 levels and I don't want to make a new lbp 1 level, I'll never get that. I do want to ace the levels and collect all the bubbles some day like I have in lbp 2.2013-08-01 23:49:00

I just need to win 25 races online for LBPK to platinum that one but for me it's been a pain to try and even race against random people. As for LBP1's platinum, the hearts are annoying but if you just post up 20 random levels and get a few friends to just heart them all, it's pretty simple, in the end that's what I had to do with LBP1 in order to platinum it.2013-08-02 02:44:00

Perhaps but sometimes cheating is the only way to reach the end, especially with LBP1 for me. Honestly it's the only platinum I had to cheat for since I sucked at creating levels in the game and had no clue on how to use logic and I just wanted to get the platinum since it was the only trophy I needed.

Fair enough Anyway, I don't think anyone plays LBP1 anymore.... I guess this trophy is quite hard nowadays.

Well... This might actually be helpful. Once I borrowed one soccer game from a friend for Vita... The thing is I hate soccer games and I just never really played it more than once. I have 0% completition in it, never plan to get any trophies for it, and it is extremely annoying to have its logo in my trophy pages.

I've retired the "arbiekko" account, but here's where my platinum collection was at when I did:

COLOR/SYMBOL GUIDE
■ = great/fun game
■ = mixed bag
■ = bad game
★ = kept playing after platinum

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
LEGO The Lord of the Rings
Worms 2: Armageddon
Sleeping Dogs
★ LittleBigPlanet 2
Katamari Forever
Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Far Cry 3
Red Dead Redemption
L.A. Noire
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Trine 2
BioShock (US version)
BioShock (JP version)
The Walking Dead
Burnout Paradise
The Darkness II
BioShock 2
★ Syndicate
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD
Saints Row: The Third
Fallout 3
Borderlands
Fallout: New Vegas
Crysis
★ Portal 2
HEAVY RAIN
LittleBigPlanet

A lot of games I played with my son (like the LEGOs), a lot I played for personal enjoyment but ended up grinding and disliking by earning the platinum. I don't know why Syndicate won my heart. I played it tons. Usually helping new players get through tough areas. The co-op component was amazing. Also, obviously, LBP2. The crown jewel of the PS3.

LA Noire = bad game??? :02013-08-08 09:38:00

LA Noire = bad game??? :0

I defended it for a while.

I probably could put it in the "mixed bag". But in making the list I liked the opportunity to reflect briefly on some of the long slogs of earning these platinums and vent a bit, and at least relative to every other game on that list, L.A. Noire comes up short. Something has to get red ink.

The truth is I fell on the wrong side of the divide when it came to actually, honestly, privately enjoying the game. So much of it was an interminable slog. I could talk all day about any game's merits because I understand context and relatively speaking, L.A. Noire is quite pretty, it's quite mature, it's quite relaxing at times, but when I come home and boot up the console, good lordy lord. With L.A. Noire, I never felt like anything I did was a success. My choices were never correct and I disconnected pretty deeply with that aspect of the game after the third chapter. The game felt like an endless, grownup version of a Spot the Difference game, involving staff with a director who dictated to them how to execute the basic artistry of a Spot the Difference game, and then loaded it with misleads and red herrings. Fair enough? But to the participant in the dentist's office, a waste of time while wasting time. It's Aaron Sorkin screenwriting without the wit, but with all the pretentious, slow lessons. L.A. Noire was a $72 USD purchase that beat me over the head with nearly 100 hours of Doing It Wrong.

By the time I got the platinum I was deeply unhappy. Deeply. On reflection, I only remember being unhappy.

I have hopes for (creator of L.A. Noire) McNamara's [Censored] of the Orient, whenever that gets completed. I didn't hate-play L.A. Noire or anything. But after the playthroughs, after the trophies, after time to settle and reflect, I come to the conclusion that it is not a good game. I'll defend L.A. Noire's many relative merits if it's on a list of two titles and the other title is Knockoff Sports Shovelware 2004. But it doesn't rank on my list of top 30 games in any generation. My only compliment to the game was that its trophies were easy enough to allow me to complete the thing to 100%, DLC and all, in spite of the game's mechanics and purpose.

I hope this ramble makes sense! Everyone's mileage is different. The game is a mindblowing success to a great many people. Like I said, I defended the game for a while. That gets tiring. I didn't like it. I can't recommend it to anyone who isn't the sort of connoisseur to play everything already. And among connoisseurs, okay, we swap a few polite words of praise. But personally, privately, L.A. Noire is a bad game.

Have you seen the leaked footage of Whore of the Orient? It looks very.... errr... lets say "raw". Early footage of course, but combat looks very basic, though I imagine that combat won't be the main focus of the game. Looks like a next gen LA Noire basically.2013-08-08 14:37:00

So, new trophy to the list

1) PSASBR (Only Vita version hehe)
2) Sound Shapes (Vita)
3) Sound Shapes (PS3... This Platinum... Just feel like I cheated to get it with Cross Save lol)
4) Gravity Rush
5) Uncharted 3
6) God of War
7) God of War 2
8 ) Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward This is... Possibly the single, most addicting game I have ever played. Ever. It has not as much replayability as LBP, but it got me absolutely hooked like never before, and finished its 35+ hrs. campaign in a few days... Not even LBP had hooked me as much as this thing... Highly recommended people

The helicopter run bit is stupid. But I was stuck on the garage part yesterday for about 45mins before giving up. Maybe I'm just a bit crap at this game.

Unfortunately I only had 2 flashbangs (which are useless against heavies) and the 2 stickies that are provided at the back of the area. Managed to beat that part yesterday after a couple of tries, but became frustrated again later on at the bit with trucks and the grenade launcher. I'll beat this game eventually!

I've never Platinumed a game before. I have tried many times, but there is either internet required trophy, (I don't have good internet) or I think that a couple trophies are to hard to get. So for me? I don't really care. After the story I am usually done with the game, and will just start playing it all over again a few months later. But, all together I think that Trophies are a good thing, it can make people really competitive and make a game thrive a little longer than it usually would if it didn't have them.2013-09-06 20:38:00

Many of the games in my list don't require multiplayer/online trophies for the Platinum. I'm not a fan of multiplayer trophies either.

I'm close to getting my next platinum - Remember Me. (that's the name of the game, I'm not asking you to keep me in your thoughts )

Has anyone seen this site - http://psnprofiles.com/

It's bloody amazing. If you love trophies, and love looking at statistics, then this is the site for you! Loads of info on there, for example:
- My 1,000th trophy was 'Self Control' - Heavy Rain.
- The most amount of trophies I got in a month was 107 in Dec 2011, closely followed by 106 in Apr 2013.
- The least was Feb 2012 where I got a paltry 2 trophies (think I was working on my LBP2 level there - Contrast [plz play it lulz]), in fact, 2012 was a fairly slow year for trophies.
- I am most likely to get a trophy on Sunday between 7pm and 8pm.
- My fastest platinum was 'Prince of Persia: Two Thrones' - 2wks 17hrs.

Yeah I prefered yourgamercards for the more frequent updates but that's been broken for months.

I was playing against someone on Fifa t'other day. After the match (I won btw) I sent him a message about his Stoke/Tony Pulis-esq tactics (anyone who knows English football will know what I mean - basically just "hoof ball"). He replied saying I must have no life because of the amount of trophies I have. Well, if platinum no. 86 is anything to go by, you must have even less of a life than me!
Of course, there are people with faaaaaaaaaaar more trophies than that!

If we combine our trophies together we still can't beat Rabid Coot.

Also, off topic but why has my Contrast level gone up by like 30 plays in the last day or so, after seemingly being dead? Anyone have any idea?
I mean, I know 30 isn't a lot, but it's a big jump all of a sudden.

Like 3 for beating The Last of Us lol, just got a Ps3 on Black Friday.

Are Trophies generally harder to unlock than Achievements on Xbox or something, or did Naughty Dog just decide to make you work for their trophies? Most of them require a guide or walkthrough (PS4 Trophy Guides (http://www.ps4cheats.com/) is a good site btw) since you have to collect every pendant and stuff. To be honest, I kind of prefer when achievements/trophies aren't story-related and actually take effort to unlock : )

Trophies for multiplatform games are the same as achievements. For first party games, well, it depends. I know Naughty Dog only has story trophies for beating the Uncharted games, instead of ones for each chapter, so it seems to just be a Naughty Dog thing. They like having trophies be for killing a certain number of enemies with guns or a certain way (at least in Uncharted, dunno about Last of Us). Anyway, it depends on the developer really.

Welcome to the playstation family and LBPC, btw. I see you also like Dragonball Z. That is a very underground and indie anime so I'm surprised.

As Rawk says, it depends on the game and the developer. Some games have really easy trophies. For example, in the The Walking Dead game, you just have to play through every chapter in order to get the platinum, whereas a game such as Killzone 2 is on the opposite side of the scale, making you complete the ludicrously hard Elite difficulty, and having to be in the top 1% weekly online rankings.

Like you, I like a nice challenging trophy, just hate the ones where you have to graft to get them (ie a lot of multiplayer trophies - boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo).

I'm sitting here with 14 platinums =D and here they are:
Playstation All Stars Battle Royale
Resident Evil - very first platinum X)
Metal Gear Solid 2 - the biggest grind and I was insane enough to platinum it twice
Metal Gear Solid 3 - I just had to play it after failing to do so after owning it on ps2 for over 5yrs - platinum'd it twice
Final Fantasy 13 -....******* that treasure hunter trophy...
Final Fantasy 13-2....those fragments was beyond tiring to get I'll never platinum this again.
Sonic Unleashed - the greatest acheivement(lol) of them all. I originally platinum'd this game on my bday but after losing my trophy/save data due to corruption, accidentally syncing my profile with a friend's, a forced system restore to cure it and another corruption problem it added up to me completing the game four times - twice for me and twice for my brother. The game has been collecting dust ever since. Same goes for FF13.
LittleBigPlanet - of course I was itching for LBP's plat which I was happy to work for but now I'm stuck with a staggering 98% for it's sequel XC
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing - easiest platinum EVER
Sonic Generations - Only a few potentially time consuming trophies
COD Modern Warfare 2- thank god for siblings lool
Split/Second - hardest racing game to platinum - the time trial difficulty is BS
Tekken 6 - fighting nancy was AWESOME
Sly Cooper & and the Thievius Raccoonus - play the game, win all trophies
I'm currently working on LBP2 and MW3
Metal Gear Solid 2, and LBP are tying with second place as my proudest achievements as they were they biggest grind I ever had for a game coming second to Sonic Unleashed which I will NEVER play again lol. That is the absolute worst game to lose your data for after working on it for so long. I love playing trophy hunter but only for games I absolutely love and will not stop playing. I'll agree some trophies are complete BS, but getting that shiny new platinum makes up for it dontcha think?

Depends on the game, if you're loving the challenge and are having fun with it then yes, definitely. I love a good challenge that requires skill. But when you stop having fun, you need to ask yourself why you're doing it. It's not all about the trophies, they're meant to add to the experience of an already great game, if that's not the case, it's generally better to just ignore them.

In other news, I got the Armored Core Verdict Day platinum and the Xcom: Enemy Within platinum. Loved both of them, although the former was a bit of a chore in places due to the online being a bit unstable. Great fun overall anyway.

I loved Fallout 3 & Bioshock so much that I platinumed 'em twice. <3

Close to getting this Minecraft platinum, but I'm too busy building my fort of doom in it.

Fallout 3 was a fun one to plat, so much fun I even did all the dlc as well, which is something I don't usually bother with, looking forward to Fallout 4. Still need to go back and plat Bioshock.

90. God of War Ascension

Kratos goes through an asset reuse adventure.

91. Jak & Daxter Vita

Lets check out the frame rate issues everyone was talking about. Not seeing much here.

92. Jak 2 Vita

A few noticable drops but nothing too terrible.

93. Jak 3 Vita

This game does not like it when enemies die it really doesn't like groups of enemies dying also the on the rails shooting level really chugs in the final section.

94. Borderlands 2 + DLC

Thank you Minecraft for providing inspiration for an over-powered shotgun.

95. Rayman Origins Vita

If the servers stop messing up it'll be 5 weeks to the Legends PS3 plat.

Curse you, Coot. Curse you.

I'm almost done with Rainbow moon, which I've clocked in 140 hours so far. Should be a few more hours till I get that. And of course Iam almost done with Rayman Legends, I just need to grind the next 700 points in challenges. I can get silvers more often now, but it'll still be a while ;-;

700 and only silvers "more often" roughly an early April finish (on an all silver run) that is serious dedication to the grind. I've been pushing for golds on almost every challenge just to cut the needed time in half (831 points to go).2014-02-02 02:09:00

I just platinum'd Beyond Two Souls.

Next up.... errrmm.... dunno.
I could try and get the Rayman Origins one, but I don't think my controller will survive if I smash it against the desk one more time. There's already a massive crack down one of the "handles".

Another thing, I've having issues syncing my trophies at the moment. It gets to about 10% then just seems to give up, no matter how many times I try. Keeps giving me an error. Anyone else had similar issues?

Hmmmm, well the only game I've purchased recently is 'Metro: Last Light' (PS+ freebie). Odd thing is that my trophies must have been loaded to the server - they're all showing on psnprofiles.com.

I'm experiencing quite a bit of slowness on my PS3 recently. Takes a while to sign in and load up the friendslist. My internet is fine though, and when my friends list has eventually loaded, PSN downloads work fine, no lag online... it's weird. My brother is having the same issues signing into PSN.

I realised just the other day that I have games where I'd not achieved more than 2 trophies, thinking I'd played them for some while. It always irritated me when I had no online and there was that one trophy where you needed to "revive someone from your friend list" or something, a permanent stain on my otherwise sweet record.2014-02-03 15:48:00

I can't even get Trophies anymore. Something inside my PS3 is messed up and I can only play one game online per session. I also can't play online the next time I turn my PS3 on unless it's been a few hours since I last turned it off. Also, the clock is always off when I turn the system on.

This is after I searched the error codes I get that Sony's support site say doesn't exist. I found on a few sites that the issue has something to do with the internal battery that keeps the clock on time dying, but I replaced it with a brand new one but it didn't fix it. The system is definitely no longer under warranty and hasn't been for a while, so I can't do anything about that.

Trophies are always timestamped so the battery not working for the clock.. I'd imagine it's all linked.

I guess that's possible. I didn't notice anything while I was replacing the battery, but I wasn't really focusing on connections. I'll have to tear my PS3 appart again and see if there are any visible connection problems. I can also replace the battery again if the new battery was a dud. I had bought an extra just in case.

There are a few good trophy guides around. I tend to just google (eg) "Mary Kate & Ashley's Exciting Adventure 2: Judgement Day trophy guide". I tend to use a couple of guides when I go for the plat, not just one. Each guide may be useful for different reasons.

Origins or Legends?

Legends is easier aside from the grinding to get the final level of awesomeness. And Origins is not as tough as old school platformers but the time trials may be a tiny bit challenging.

How's about:

Binge Watch (Watch an entire series in a day)
Netmix (Watch 1 episode of each Netflix Original Series in one sitting)
Just in Time (Watch a movie less than 24hrs before it's removed from Netflix)
Buffer King (Successfully buffer 100 shows or movies at the first attempt)

Platinum number 37: Fifa 14

I didn't originally intend to go for the plat for it, but I needed to build up some trophies again after a bit of a barren run.

Soul Sacrifice Delta comes out not this tuesday, but the tuesday following; and I'm close enough to that platinum for the original that it would be a shame to not get it.

But, boy, this loadsa content is making this a rush to the finish.

Reaching the final level of awesomeness and getting 1,000,000 lums (or whatever they're called) just looks insane. I've completed all the main levels (well until the credits scene anyway [side point - why are the credits so fraking long in Ubisoft games?? They need to get rid of some of this employees so they don't have to keep churning out yearly sequels to cope with paying them all!]) and have less than 200,00 lums. Completed some of the Origins levels too.

A million lums is by far the easier of the two, you get quite a few just by going through the challenges and a big bonus from the cups you earn. Awesomenss is the real problem you're generally looking at 3 months of all gold-6 months of all silver plus lost days to bad servers. I was getting bored of the same few variations on the same few level designs after my second month, there's no way I would have put in the eight thar Rock has.

TBH, I'm not that great at the game, I struggle to get anything over silver on the challenges.... especially the timed ones where I struggle to get more than bronze!

EDIT: Can't believe you got the PES2014 platinum! You must a true trophy w***e to struggle through that turgid game for one measly plat. :hero:

For Rayman are you running and pressing square then x for little fast jumps and using the mid aid kick to get the distance needed for some gaps instead of the slower hover?

PES is a very easy plat, you can get a good chunk of the trophies just by setting it to easy maxing out a team then just browsing the internet while skipping games, other trophies you can go 1-0 up, pass to the keeper and run the clock out which only leaves the training mode and footballer of the year for Asia and South America requiring real play time.

Also last time I played a Football game it looked like this.

Puppeteer seems quite a tough one. Collecting all the moonsparkles?? 3,000 moonsparkles collected by player 2?? Yikes! Also, all these sodding head actions. I always seem to lose the relevent head not long before the head action pops up!

I see you have the Okami platinum. It's on sale at the moment on the EU PS store. Would you recommend it?

On further investigation, the trophy doesn't seem that bad judging by the tip on here:

http://psnprofiles.com/trophy/2110-Puppeteer/20-Sparktacular

(I'm also noticing that the first person to receive this trophy got it in 2009????)

Still, the 3,000 player 2 sparkles trophy is a big ask.

Yeah, don't know if I'll bother with Puppeteer. It's boring.

In other news, I just bought a used PS4 with a second Dualshock 4 and a copy of NBA 2014 for 330 bucks! And since I don't care about Basketball, I can sell that game again.

But I got Infamous Second Son coming, so yeah.

... Just wanted to celebrate after months of doing surveys to get that credit lol.

107. Puppeteer

Great main game but to many annoying collectibles.

If you're doing the two player trophies act 1-3 after the security system the padlock can spawn infinite enemies and the 1-3 bonus stage is an easy 100 sparkles per run.

I'm thinking of giving the platinum a go, but yeah, there are a lot of collectible related trophies. Also, the chapter specific trophies that require you to not get hit are annoying. If you get hit, do you have to restart the whole chapter again or can you just restart from the last checkpoint?

(BTW, I bought Okami last night. Have already done a fair bit of random barking. )

I always started from the begining if I hit something, for the levels where the no hit sections start in the middle iI backed out and used a cloud save to avoid replaying too much.

Read the wooden shoe and hundred sparkle guides carefully I missed a second interaction on one of the areas in 1-3 and a single hundred sparkle in 5-3 climbing the tower which lead to a bit of time wasted.

So my PS4 order was canceled by seller, not that I wanted it anymore anyway, so I now have 350 dollars amazon credit. And a spare copy of Knack and Infamous Second son lying around. Yay.

So now I have tons of money to buy new games whee! If only there was something out there that had combat mixed with puzzles and platforming... why is such a thing so rare?

Does anyone have any suggestions for games with platinum trophies that are fun and doable, but with lots of secrets and collectables that are needed for said platinum trophy?

I'm thinking of something like Arkham Asylum or City, which were a decent challenge but still fun the whole way though. Not like Origin's multiplayer would be. (So preferably no multiplayer trophies I guess) And they also have a lot of secrets and collectables that are fun to get. I don't mind something that isn't story based as long as there were tons of secrets and unlockables (I'm thinking like Super Smash Bros Brawl, with it's trophy wall thing). And I don't really want something too easy- I want something I can stick my teeth into, but have fun the whole way. So yeah, any ideas?

On another note, I am about 301 points away from Rayman Legends platinum. Why on earth did they not make more levels for challenges?

From my experience (Just look at my signature!):

Skyrim is a good game to platinum. You'd think because of how vast the game is, it'd be impossible to platinum but once you've done the main quest-lines and faction quest-lines, it's just a matter of collect ____ amount of _____, and a few other things.

Infamous is pretty straight forward, just beat the game as a hero, then beat it again as 'evil/infamous'

COD:Classic, COD5-7, LBP1+2 (probably Karting as well), Lego Games are all fairly straightforward but challenging/time consuming

The walking Dead Game Series, Minecraft, Most PSN games are very easy to platinum

Quit close to getting my Okami platinum.

@Rawk - did you find that most of the requirements for the 'Barking Up the Cherry Tree' trophy came naturally, or did you have to grind for some of them?

Deaths: Less than 5
Praise Earned: 4,500 (or more)
Enemies Defeated: 550 (or more)
Demon Fangs: 300 (or more)
Money Gained: 4,000,000 Yen (or more)

I'm currently trying to get 2,000,000 Yen so that I can get the last God technique, at about 800,000 currently, one more Devil Gate to go which should get me a nice amount of cash.
Only other trophy which seems to be a pain is the fish one, since it's all random.

I've only got a couple of fish to get now, don't seem to be getting much luck with them though! I've made sure I'm fishing at the right time of day, but they don't want to appear. These are the ones I need:

23. Moray - Medium (2 slashes) - N. Ryoshima - Day & Night
24. Loggerhead Tutle - Large (2 slashes) - N. Ryoshima - Day Only
42. Oarfish - Large (3 slashes) - Kamui - Day & Night

On the plus side, I've got all the beads! Drafted my brother in to record the sequence for Blockhead Grande and play it back on his phone.

I know there's folk out there with waaaaaaaay more platinums than yourself, but since I don't know any of them I'll just ask you.
Do you still get some sort of satisfaction when you get a plat? Or are you just like "meh"? I mean, I have quite a few plats, but nowhere near that much, so I still get some sort of satisfaction when I get one.

Depends on the finisher, a hard mode finish is quite satisfying but when it's a get all the things finish it's much less so. I probably should stop doing time consuming collectibles and spend the time cutting down backlog.

I made the mistake of ordering it from Zavvi over 2 weeks ago because I had a 10% discount voucher. 2 weeks later they're still awaiting stock. They actually removed the listing from the website, but now they have the cheek to put it back up for sale, ?2 cheaper than what I paid for it, yet still don't have any stock.
