The Dark Temple

Archive: 8 posts

I thought i'd try my take at a platformer game, but with a darker edge not seen in too many LBP levels. It sort of reminds me of LBP 1's darkness level, so there is a lot of indirect inspiration there. Lot of focus on lighting, scary music/sounds, and some water effects. Be sure to tell me what you think of the level. I'll take any constructive criticism.

Just played it, nice job! I loved the atmosphere--the lighting really added to that. But I did end up turning the music off. Maybe it's because I associate it so strongly with the Pirates of the Caribbean levels, and that to me didn't really match the level's intended feel of darkness. Overall it came across as more of an adventure level than a dark one. Nevertheless, it was good fun and had a nice pacing to it.

Btw, you know that second obstacle with the flaming blocks that move in and out? I don't know if you intended for this to happen, but when you stand in front of a block, it won't move out. So you could just sit there and the block will wait for you to move. Doesn't seem like much of an obstacle, is all. Not a big deal, though.

Unfortunately, my music creating skills are not all that great, so I have to go with whatever music matches the scary tone I wanted.

Also, i'll check out the second obstacle. I set it to allow pushing, so I have no idea why it is not pushing things. Thanks for the feedback.

I noticed that too. Other than that I liked the level a lot. Nice atmosphere and I thought the music and sound effects were pretty good too. I have it queued to play again tonight because I kept getting distracted yesterday so I didnt get to finish.

Glad you liked the level, elfmirkin.

Also, I figured out why the blocks were not pushing. If you are already on the outermost layer, it won't push things, since there is nowhere to fall too. Rookie mistake on my part, but things have gone a lot worse in the past. I decided to simply replace that part of the level with flaming floor tiles.
