F1 Styled Quick Racer! (https://karting.lbp.me/v/2c8z)

Hi everyone, this is my first Karting level which I fiddled with on and off for about two weeks. I've mostly published it to get the 10 plays trophy but also to try out working in 3D.

I think it looks nice enough for a first level! It's a short track, three laps, one shortcut, loosely based on a F1-style track with tight corners and long straights.

Have a queue!

Many thanks!

I approve! Track definately had that F1 feel you were looking for. The environment felt natural and I liked the way you took us to the river and then up into the hills and stuff. The lighting effect made a nice chance as well and I adored the light beams in the picture above. That bit might make into a future video tutorial if thats ok with you.

The other thing I thought was cool was that the shortcut was kinda hidden, and when you got in it, it was full of trees and stuff. This meant it didnt feel like an alternative route and you were actually 'cheating' by cutting the corner. I think thats a good idea and one that others should follow.

Hey Adipose, thanks for playing and for your comments.

The shortcut wasn't part of my original plan but I thought I could put one there without making it too much of a shortcut. The downside is the players who go the full distance get lobbed bombs which can they throw at the shortcutters in the distance! And yes, I wanted it to feel like you had left the track, not so much like a proper shortcut that looks like regular track. I put a sound effect in that section too to indicate the player was doing something unusual. In hindsight, a warning sound might have been good to make players uncertain about taking the shortcut. Some to try in a future level!

The lighting in the bridge was done using a "Bits and Bobs" object dotted here and there - can't remember its name right now.

You are welcome to use that level in a video if you like, sounds cool.

Looks awesome! I have it queued! The object that you used to make the lighting effect is called the spot-light, I think, and you used it extremely well. That section looks great! Way to go!!2012-12-03 18:48:00

I will dive in to this as soon as I have a smoke. The lighting DOES look awesome. And lighting is the hardest, and most important, part of photo-aesthetics.

EDIT: It's pretty well designed for as short and simple as it is. I gave it a heart as it's something I would really enjoy playing with friends. It did take me a while to find the shortcut, until I found it and I had to slap myself. Go back ten years and that would have been obvious to me.
