Paintball 3000 A.D. BETA
Archive: 9 posts
I'm calling this a beta because I can't finish the level, or flesh it out any further until the item capture bug is fixed. If I capture it, the grab switch disappears, meaning I can't implement it into a proper level with an obligatory respawn. Anyway... I came up with this while Nev and I were working on 2 Complex, and it's basically a one-man Gradius/R-Type-esque ship that fires paintballs. You control it by moving with the jetpack, and holding R1 to shoot and stabilize yourself with rockets. It's a race level, and you have 100 hit points on your paint meter. If you die, you get 0 points and respawn at the scoreboard. The ship can break and there's alot of kinks with the physics to iron out, but I got it balanced as best I could for the shape of the vehicle and the immense weight of enemy paintballs that would otherwise send it into a permanent spin cycle. Hence: BETA. I think the basic concept is nice... but right now I consider this an object demo. It's an open beta, up for grabs. It's a good idea in the mean time, and I'm sure there will be some cool stuff in the future using this. ALSO: if you enjoy flying and shooting, try my "AIR BLASTERS" by my friend deboerdave. | 2009-01-17 09:16:00 Author: Unknown User |
I will be checking this out soon. Sounds like another great idea from seemingly endless imagination lol. | 2009-01-17 12:11:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Dude!!!!!!!! This game ROCKS!!!!!!! GREAT vehicle, GREAT mechanics! I didn't even know the game existed. My son just linked through from the Splat Invaders Saga comments (didn't know there was a comment yet), found his way in. I said "Let me see that for a second. I played it for a few minutes and it is fantastic! I'm going to be watching for this on the showcase so I can review it. Later when my son goes to sleep I'm going to go through the whole beta. Wow... um... I'm done. | 2009-01-28 23:15:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Thanks, but I hate this level actually lol... the grab switch on the ship disappears when I capture or copy the object, so I can't set it up for a respawn to make a proper level. I like the look of the place, but all I did was make some dissolve doors, take the turrets I made for Seminal Gemini and make them into uhh fish of some sort lol I did at one point have the locust boss I wasn't able to fit in Seminal Gemini as the boss for this beta, but opted to take it out as it seemed like a waste of a great boss. He will probably make it into a full version if I can ever iron out the bug and make a real level out of this ship. If you ever want one of these, let me know. I wouldn't mind seeing it in a horizontal version of the Do Not Enter room | 2009-01-28 23:44:00 Author: Unknown User |
Oh... it's a tease... oh well, but I'm still gonna play around with it a little more later. I really enjoyed the mechanic. You know, it wouldn't be a bad 2 player game if you put some grab sponge on the back and had a 2nd player aim the ship. Kind of a 2 player opposite version of Elbee23's intestinal tract game - called "Enima Adventure"... ....sorry  | 2009-01-28 23:54:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
heh, I could probably make a controllable hypodermic needle out of this design and make a level called Junkie Journey, or a level based on that ridiculous Mr Mosquito game. That actually sounds more entertaining than shooting creatures. | 2009-01-29 00:15:00 Author: Unknown User |
Sounds almost as stupid as shooting pixels with a paintinator.... I think we may have something here!:hero: | 2009-01-29 00:35:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Hmmm... I tried the beta today. The ship was really awkward, most of the time I just stuck to the corners and shot at max range, and half the time the ship was facing the wrong way. It is a beta though, but you did show me the ship before. I know Donkeyshow has got a similar system for his Armorboys in his first level, it's just that he's using magnetic key emitted objects rather than paintballs. It's just such a pain to balance rockets or floaty vehicles. If you could get the balancing right it as well as conquer the capture bug then it could make for a great level set up. I look forward to seeing how it will turn out when it's a fully functioning level. | 2009-01-30 13:05:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
lol, I have a pretty easy time controlling it, but I know it takes alot of getting used to and even I can't always keep it right. I think it would be a breeze to balance if it wasn't getting batted around by paintballs though. | 2009-01-30 13:22:00 Author: Unknown User |
