Mt. Diablo (Updated)
Archive: 8 posts
I picked up the game on Black Friday, so I'm still super new to the 3D creation. Any comments are welcome! I was inspired by a road I used to go up and down all the time down Mt. Diablo on my way to Concord. Of course, I was a tad liberal with how accurate it is. But the concept is there, lots of turns, in the mountains, some snow and a mixture of fright and 'beauty'. Give it a go and let me know what I need to improve on (it's my first track and I know some of you are more experienced, I could use that)! I hope you enjoy! Thanks guys EDIT: I have added a night and day effect as well as a couple other changes, not the trees though, the trees have to stay. | 2012-11-28 21:38:00 Author: anarchowolf Posts: 194 |
I liked the mountains and the general feel of the environment - the bits of snow as you went up were nice but I think you could do more with that effect - make the top feel very icy and the bottom feel almost summery. I see what you were aiming for with the solid trees and bluebells - and I liked the way it made the sides of the track dangerous - but I think there were too many. Maybe have certain sections that have loads then other sections with none. | 2012-12-01 16:12:00 Author: TheAdipose Posts: 533 |
I might bite the bullet and go in and make those changes to trees after all. This was mostly a test track and I've been focused on new work but since the general feeling is "too many trees", no reason to leave them. I won't get rid of all of them,of course, as it messes with the realism a little. As for the Ice, it wouldn't let me put any more on. | 2012-12-01 22:47:00 Author: anarchowolf Posts: 194 |
"As for the Ice, it wouldn't let me put any more on" ...for example though, you could use a white track right at the top, or the icing walls which look like a snow cover. Or maybe an effects emitter to make it look windy. Check out that lbpk community level with all the snow, that has some cracking visuals. | 2012-12-01 23:00:00 Author: TheAdipose Posts: 533 |

I never thought about that, don't think I have any white tracks, yet, though. I'm only 71% complete. But I will see what I can do right now. Admittedly I'm not quite used to the new functions of old tools yet. EDIT: Okay I moved the trees that 'caused more of a problem then a challenge, while leaving some in select areas that you're not too likely to bump into. I also added some element/environment changes. I couldn't find any white tracks so I laid down white fences accordingly. And for fun I added an eyeball, which was a beloved painted rock on Marsh Creek Road (which is the road this is based off of, running through Mt. Diablo) for a long time, until it was painted over. Which was strange, it was older then me but hey. | 2012-12-01 23:50:00 Author: anarchowolf Posts: 194 |
