Mine Train Rollercoaster Ideas

Archive: 7 posts

Hey Everybody! I know I don't really post here often- but things are booming on LBP2! I was wondering if you all would help me with an idea I've been working on- I don't mean actually create with me (but, that would be fun!), I mean helping me with a storyline and ideas. So, the project I am starting on is another Mine Train coaster, and will probably use a variation of this train here-(It's my signature Mine Train):

This train is definitely the one I'm going to use, I just want to know how I should re-theme it and what colors it should be. I'm thinking about having it in a mountainous foresty kind of area, so, any ideas on storyline and theming? Thanks! OH and here are some pics I found that inspired me about the location:

Black with red trim always looks good on train, but I also think a steam punk look would be very cool. Lots of brass and cogs and whatnot.

What kind of story are you looking for if it's a roller coaster? Do you want it to be told while riding the train like there are a bunch of train robbers and you need to fight em off while the train is moving? Or before and after the train sequence like you need to make an emergency delivery or escape and so you go on a crazy train roller coaster ride.

If you have ever played my rollercoasters, you know there is some sort of adventure about them. For example, my first Mine Train coaster, Mighty Eagle Railroad http://lbp.me/v/fgf4wk, you board an old Mine train, venturing deep into Eagle Peak. As you wind your way through the mountains, you find yourself in an old mine shaft filled with glowing crystals.

All of a sudden, there is a loud explosion sound and a flash of red light, followed by a ear-piercing screech. The train, posessed now by the spirit of the mountain, shoots backwards out of the tunnel. After a fast-paced adventure-backwards- you encounter the spirit of the mountain itself- the legendary Mighty Eagle. After the encounter, the train goes through a brake run, on to a reverse-tilting elevator, then you roll gently into the station.

I was looking for something like this- a theme, a main plot (something that WILL go wrong), then something to make your plans go wrong, then some adventurous "escape"(doesn't have to be an actual escape). I like all of your ideas, but the first one seems a bit to wild-westy. I'm looking for more mountainy story. Like some sorta monster or something attacks. Any ideas? (doesn't have to be a monster)

As for the train theming, I like the steampunk idea (I am a fan of steampunk myself), but the only problem is I'm worried people will be like,"Why did he put a steampunk train in a non-steampunk forest environment". Other than that, I like the idea about that. I'll give it a try and post my results a little later!

Oh! I have an neat idea for that then. In Utah, I think, there is a nuclear dump site in the Rockies, could make for a giant mutant attack or a lot of mutant squirrels. You could be delivering more waste to the site or surveying it or your trip doesn't have to be related to the site at all.

Another thought if you don't want monsters could be a volcano erupting.

If it's a forest I would think about going in and out of a temple looking for a gem or crystal of some sort with natives trying to protect it. When you get the crystal you fall into a trap that sends you plummeting through the underground caves near the forest/mountain thing.2012-11-24 21:27:00

That is actually a pretty cool idea! I like it- I could probably incorporate something like mutant forests full of contaminated materials. Maybe I could make it be an innocent looking train in the beginning and have it become mutated and contaminated- there's the story turner- and go on an adventure waiting for the effects of the waste to wear off. My other question is this- how should I achieve the look of a forest? I have tried multiple techniques, but the most thermo efficient way I've found is using 3D sticker panel- but even that overloads the thermo after awhile. Anybody have any tips on this- Or am I just going to have to sacrifice detail for thermo and make it a 3-layer forest? These answers WILL be applied to the level (well, the best ones), so I need a good easy way of doing this that looks nice too. Thanks!

I like this idea, too. But my only problem with this is finding a way to get the Mine train to interact with a crystal. I would usually attach some sort of robotic arm- But I'm afraid the arm couldn't handle the thrashing motions of the coaster.

Alrighty! I've been working on this for a while now, brainstorming, and this is the resulting train!

Sorry for this double post- I just felt like this needed a new fresh post- Ok also, I've been thinking about something- How should I introduce the backwards section for this coaster? I need it to return to the station, and the only way to do this is to introduce a backwards track section- but I need an idea of how to incorporate it into the story. Any ideas on this? Thanks!2012-12-05 00:50:00
