why dont things work like they should?

Archive: 4 posts

Its so frustrating.

Here's my latest issue. I had an emitter that emitted an object and worked fine. I decided I wanted a sound to play at the same time so of course I used a microchip.

Now, neither work. Sort of. The emitter emits the object, but instead of disappearing after 2 seconds, it stays forever. The sound tweak doesn't work at all.

And I am using a HUD tweaker to display a text box. I thought you could place the tweaker on the spawn point (per the tutorial ) so it would appear on the HUD. It didn't work. I had to connect a player sensor to the HUD tweaker to get it to work.

WHY?????

Why cant these beloved tools work as reliably as they do in LBP? This game could be my dream game. I used to play MNR thinking how awesome it would be if you could have all the creation options that LBP does. Then I heard about LBP Karting and had a nerd-gasm!

But its just so flaky and temperamental. Its like creating on eggshells! Lol. I will continue to enjoy the game, cussing all the way, hoping that 1 day UFG will work the kinks out.

Someone else was saying that tags dont work in a microchip either.. so it sounds to me like microchips are very buggy. Try putting your logic in the chip but the sound object outside.2012-11-21 22:19:00

I have had terrible luck with microchips as well. I had to give up on some work I was doing with tag sensors, so thanks for clarifying TheAdipose. I think I will use the invisible wall material as a microchip instead of the ones in game. The placement of the connecting wires in the microchip is also a disaster, there is no way to keep it neat! It just become a huge mess.

I agree this game has a ton of potential and it is ALMOST there. Hopefully the developers can make the necessary tweaks, post launch, to polish off the creation kit.

I didn't fully understand what your using the tags for but if your using a tag and tag sensor on the same chip they won't work. It has to be one on one chip and the other on a different chip from the whole set up. Also if that doesn't help you try using transmitters and receivers. They do work on microchips as I have been using them and haven't had a problem. They work just like tags but are automatically set to the whole level. So as long as distance isn't to much of a issue they work fine.

Also for the HUD tweaker, is it before the level starts or after? If you want it to play before the level as a level tutorial, you have to use a magic mouth (and I think on a sequencer). All HUD tweakers wont appear until after the level starts and after something activates them.

Also for the sound you might have to hook it up to a timer set to the minimal setting (I think it's 0.1) so that it makes the sound right as it emits. Or you might need to use any other sensor. I made a track emiting coal that made a noise after hitting the ground. So just a impact sensor connected to the sound. I hope this helps.
