Track above the ground?

Archive: 11 posts

Hey guys!

I haven't got into Create much since the BETA 'cause I've been collecting 100% items (lol, the headstart pack only unlocks one world), but I would like to know if somebody knows how to make a track that is 100% "floating" in the sky with no kind of surface below, like some levels in The funk world, or that bee level. Any ideas?

All you have to do is make your track then make the whole thing a bridge. The terrain becomes flat and you had a floating track.2012-11-18 18:05:00

Hmmm. That sounds reasonable. I'll try it out later! Thanks!

One thing, it seams that you can't make branches on a bridge - the point where two sections of track connect has to be regular road.2012-11-18 18:59:00

Do you mean Tree Top Trouble when you say the Bee Level? I don't think that I do it like they do it in story mode because in my method the spawning doesn't work optimally, though as I mess with it I may be able to sort things out better

In my method I don't use track at all. Instead I set the global setting of "Auto-Reset" to off, and this allows driving anywhere so that I could use custom objects as the track. Then I use splines to direct the racers where to go. There's all sorts of nasty stuff to account for, so using the bridge method mentioned by Dfw would probably be the way to go (thought I haven't tried it) unless you are looking for something new to try out

Jeje, by bee level I meant the Story Mode Bee race 2.0 or something like that. Its in Avalon's brother world.
Thanks for the reply anyway!

even if you cant create branches on a bridge track you can still use custom made objects with a pathfinder tool attached as a road and use breadcrumbs to allow the A.I to recognise it as a shortcut/alternate route.2012-11-19 12:37:00

I found something very interesting. Looking carefully, all the first track of the Progress Emporiuk is built in the air, but it uses regular road with no kind of terrain below?!?! It seems it is built over tables and stuff. Just let yourself fall in a jump and you'll see. I would like a tutorial on this kind of construction techniques, because it allows branches.

Also, a method I already tried and works is to build everything -preferably painted as a bridge- and then select the WHOLE track and use the elevation function -not sure how it is called, it has an arrow up and another one pointing down- and then you can elevate your track to whatvere height is desired. Easy!

I believe Progress Emporium was built all as a bridge, and at locations with alternative routes breadcrumbs were used. You can also create an object like a tabletop floating in midair, drive the track onto it and then use the "terrain road " or "delete road". This will delete the ground from under the track and allow the racers to drive on the object without removing the branching functions. The AI and weapons will also learn the path to follow without need to use the pathfinder or spline tools. Combine this with bridges and you can create a track like the Progress Emporium.2012-11-20 15:22:00

I know this question is already answered, but in case others are looking, my latest video tutorial focusses on a track in the sky
