My head is about to explode! Help needed.

I'm not getting how tgud 3d editor works. I'm s veteran of little big planet 2, but this is confusing.

My main issue is with drawing shapes. Should be simple. Nope.

When I enter a brand new map I can pick a shape and texture. There is a red grid that covers the entire floor. I can move my basic shape anywhere I want and start to draw. After a few squares I get a message, " you have reached the size boy dry for thus shape. I can no longer add to the shape AND the grid has changed to a vertical blue grid that only allows me to move go and down it right and left. No in and out.

First, what does this error mean? What can I only make a single, very small, shape? In little big planet 2, you could draw huge shapes.

Second, why did the grid change from covering the entire floor area to a small vertical grid?

Here's the best part. I deleted this level and created a new, blank level. Instead of starting with the red grid that covers the entire floor, allowing me to place a shape anywhere, I'm started with the skinny, blue, vertical grid.

I guess I need someone to explain how to draw shapes and to explain these various grids and their limitations.

EDIT:

If you watch the CUSTOM OBJECTS tutorial, this is how Itsmy level started, with the red grid being able to draw anywhere. Now, even if u start a brand new level, I'm stuck with the vertical, blue grid.

It looks like the blue grid only allows you to edit in a vertical fashion. In fact, when you press R1 or R2, instead of moving up & down like normal, it moves the object in & out. Its weird.

OK. I think I know the problem.

There seem to be 2 modes.

The first is when you first create an object and are shaping it. Making it thicker and thinner etc. This us the red grid mode.

Once you press X to place it, you can no longer change the shapes thickness, you can only rotate it and move it around. This is the blue grid mode.

The problem is...once you place an object, how do you get back to the mode where yiy can adjust its thickness etc? Does anyone know?

Select the object, press square for the tweak menu, then select Edit Shape (or something like it) lets you get back to editing the shape.2012-11-18 20:17:00

Nope. That doesn't work. All that does is bring you back to the MATERIALS screen in the popit. It diesnt sllow you to edit the currently selected object. That was the first and most obvious option. I don't know if the option us broken, but it doesn't allow you to edit the object. IE. Change the thickness etc.

It does bring you to the material screen, because you're selecting a new shape which you'll use to edit the existing shape with. You can use the new shape you select to add or remove material from the existing object. There is no way to go back to sizing what you commit though. This is how it worked in LBP1 and LBP2.

I understand what you're saying but it still isn't working. Let me give you an axample.

I created a square. I placed it down. I want to make it thinner, cut some off the top by using another square shape to cut off the top of the first shape. It doesn't work. If you press Y to delete, nothing happens. Plus, when I raise the 2nd shape to cut the top off the first shape, both pieces move simultaneously, so I can't add to or delete from the first piece. I can remove material from the sides, but its impossible to make the original shape taller or shorter. If you rotate the piece, it doesn't help.

I used LBP extensively, and this editor does not work like little big planet 2 in any way. Unless there's something I'm missing it can't be done. I would live somone to prove me wrong, because i love this series and i want to build amazung stuff.

Right now this is a horrible editor and extremely difficult to do the simplest things.

You're right in that it is different from LBP2, so you have to really pay attention to the tutorials and on screen button hints. To make it thinner or thicker, you don't actually edit the shape, you just modify the thickness. I think it was press and hold L3, then L1 and R1 to modify, but I'm not sure. Check what it says at the bottom of the screen in edit shape mode.2012-11-19 11:23:00

If your making a shape and it says its to big go to the tweak menu for that piece and make it unique. It seems you can only make so many shapes of one material but if you make it unique then you can make more. The editor is crappy of just takes time and patience to get it down. I hardly make anything I just use already made items.2012-11-20 01:13:00
