Jetpacks hidden, minigame style?

Archive: 11 posts

Ok, so we all know Libidius, right?

Well I've got a great idea for a level, but I need to know how on earth they make the jetpacks correspond to where you are..

I mean, the shortest length is 4, but I need to it go to 0 :S Otherwise sticking something to the jetpack, to show where you are doesn't work..

Sorry,I'm not really sure how to explain this.. How do I get the thing that's on the front layer,to stick to the jetpack that sackboy is attached to?

BAH?

Anyone understand /help?

You need a Jetpack inside a ring and on the backlayer.

Now that ring needs to be attached by a rod or piston (or anything stiff) that will be the thing the player will see (in Libidius it's the ship).

Now to hide your ring with the Jetpack, you put a wall on the thin layer in between. (Rods and pistons aren't blocked by the thin layer)

Oh man... Let me see if I can get the explanation that's in my head to come out right xD

Ok here goes... So you need to put the jetpack inside a closed off circle (of disolve material, so you can set it to release sackboy at the end of the level). You'll have sackboy enter the circle (which sets off the jetpack) and attach the object/spaceship/whatever to that circle.

I think there is maybe a better way een, but that's the basic principle I believe... Does that help?

EDIT: Yea with what RangerZero said and my mess of an explanation xD that should help you out I hope

Duhh, I'm thick xD

Thanks man!

EDIT :

But, sackboy is outside the ring :S I need the object that's stuck to it not to swing when you change direction

Well, sackboy needs to be inside the ring. If it's not possible to do it you'll have to force it.

You can have a system where once the sackboy is in the ring, it moves behind the a wall (preventing layer change) and the Jetpack would be there.

It's hard to explain that one, I hope you get an idea of what I mean. I also think it's the way the Libidius guy did If I remember right.

Hmm... That's a good queston... If I think of something I'll let you know. Maybe it'll come to you by messing around with it. Or maybe somebody quicker than either of us will come along with the answer xP

EDIT:

Ranger: How about a way to keep the ring from rotating while you operate it? So that the ship stays level and straight?

Oh boy, I think I would need a drawing but I can't upload anything from here in the office. lol

I'll try to explain anyways...

You need to make a room where the sackboy will jump in the ring (no jetpack). The ring needs to be in the middle layer when I think about it.

Ok, now that your sackboy is in the ring on the middle layer, a piston needs to push the ring and sackboy in front of a jetpack in the back layer.

Now to prevent your sackboy from getting out of your ring from the front, the thin wall that you will need for hiding the whole thing must be there in front of your ring when you catch the jetpack power up.

Do you get it?

You might also want the jetpack to follow you instead of giving it a huge zone.

You could hold it in the air by some dissolve material with a mag switch connected. Then your ring passes in front of the jetpack, a mag key on your ring dissolves what's holding the jetpack in place and voila!

You could have the ring/jet pack/everything you need set up as an oject. Have a sensor switch for when sack boy is in the right spot, then emit the thing around him. You would need a pretty small sensor range to make it work.

I think Libidius used the 3 objects glued together with a thin layer passing between it trick. Rods and pistons leave marks on the outer objects area.

That's all theoretical, but it should work.
