How to Get More Plays Using Karting.LBP.me

Archive: 16 posts

It's great to see so many new people getting into a LittleBigPlanet game, and also that so many are willing to get on the forums and advertise, which is a very important part of the LBP Creation process (BTW, leaving feedback is as well, so make sure to play other people's levels and leave feedback ).

Well, there is one V-E-R-Y important step that most people are missing, and I believe that it will severely impart how much their levels are played in the future, and that is how they are using karting.LBP.me. It seems that more people are figuring out how to get their level link so that they can share it, but a majority of people have their privacy settings messed up, so I am here to show everyone how to configure everything correctly so that people can easily find and queue their levels from their computer.

So, let' begin

1) First of all, you need to go to http://karting.lbp.me and sign into SEN. If your name already appears in the top right corner then you are already logged in and can skip this step. However, if it says "Sign in with SEN" then you NEED to login:

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/amazingflyingpoo/LBPKBeforeLogin.png

You will be directed to a login page. Enter you PSN/SEN and password here that you created on your PS3 to login to play LBP (and any PS3 game) online.

2) Now that you are logged in you need to click your name in the top-right hand corner of the screen and a drop down menu will appear as shown in the picture below. Select the "Web Privacy" option:

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/amazingflyingpoo/LBPKFindWebPrivacy.png

3) This is where you configure your profile so that people can see your levels and queue them. Most people seem to be giving out their level links, but their privacy makes it so no one cans see their levels. Most likely, if you have not configured your settings then they are currently set to "I only want people to see my [ ] in the game", which will make it so people cannot queue your level from a computer. You need to select "Allow everyone to see my [ ] from the web". And then YOU NEED TO PRESS THE "Update Privacy Settings" BUTTON! I say this in all caps because I have forgotten to do this step before

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/amazingflyingpoo/LBPKPrivacySettings.png

Now I am going to explain how to get your level link so you can share it if you don't already know how...

4) Once you have pressed the Update Privacy Settings button, you will most likely be on the page where we want to be, but just to play it safe in case you aren't on the right page, select your name in the top-right corner of the screen once again, but this time select "My Profile" from the drop down menu:

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/amazingflyingpoo/LBPKProfile.png

5) You are now on your profile page. Scroll down and select "Published Levels" from the left-hand side bar:

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/amazingflyingpoo/LBPKFindLevels.png

6) From here you will see all of your published levels. You need to scroll down and find the level that you want to share and select it. In this case, I am scrolling down to my only LBPK level, Tree Top Trouble, and I will click the name of the level:

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/amazingflyingpoo/LBPKselectinglevel.png

7) And this is where you want to link people to because this is where people can queue your level now that your privacy settings are correct, so just copy the web address and then paste it wherever you want to share:

Extra Info if You Want A Picture of Your Level Link

Once added it should look like this:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/60483/preview_image.png

1) If you want to post a picture of your level link in your post, then while you are viewing your level on karting.lbp.me just hover your cursor over the level link and right click then select "Copy Image URL":

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/amazingflyingpoo/GrabbingLevelLink.png

2) Now the image is ready to use in the post that you are making on the site. Just select that area of the post, and then press the "Insert Image" button on the site that you are using (LBPC, LittleBigNetwork, LittleBigLand, or LittleBigPlanetarium):

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/tt179/amazingflyingpoo/AddImageButton.png

3) A window will now popup asking for the picture info. There are a few important things you need to do. First select the "From URL" option in the top tabs of the popup. You need to paste the URL that you copied in step #6 into the URL field, and lastly MAKE SURE that the "retrieve remove file and reference locally" is NOT selected. With this done, press the "Ok" button and your photo will be added:

By the way, you can also change your privacy settings in the game, under Settings in the start menu. Worked for me.

Oh, and another suggestion: add how to put pictures in your post. Good pictures always help getting plays.

these settings are also useful to change if you want to publish a level for testing purposes but do not want any external players playing it! just change them to deny all and your levels will be invisible to all, as will your entire profile.

Through lbpk.me, yes. But surely they're still visible in game, right?2012-11-17 21:24:00

Great idea posting this up, poo! Well written, and gotta love a few images as breadcrumbs

Oddly enough I was thinking about this myself today, after clicking on about five links from the showcase with blocked profiles. Glad you beat me to it tbh, as I'm not in the tutorial-writing mood this week.

Great idea. I think I will make a new post for that though since retrieving pictures and adding them is a bit different from changing privacy setting and grabbing a level link. I can see how they could be considered the same though... Hmm.. Well, I will make a new thread and if it is decided that they need to be combined then I'm sure a mod could let me know they would prefer it that. I just figure it would make it easier for a new person to find what they need to know if they are separate

Yeah, it was becoming apparent that it is going to be an issue since we have a lot of people who are new to LBP joining the community because of the game. It is certainly not a bad thing since I am excited to see new people

players not opening their data for public viewing is still a minor roadblock (ha! see what I did thar?) for the spotlight crew on the karting showcase - can I recommend this thread for stickying please? It could well give us all a bit less of a headache! 2012-11-18 23:53:00

Great writeup! Nice job also on the 'how to add pictures to your posts' tutorial as well - you might even want to think about updating your post and adding a link to that. I've answered quite a few questions on that subject myself and I know more are bound to come up.

Thanks for stickying this one Lady_Luck! :hero:

This was a really useful guide - thankyou.
When I post my level on here - how do I post it with the circular image as the link? The LBP.me link seems to just give a standard link when using a karting address.

AdiEasy peasy.

On karting.lbp.me, find the level badge you want to display and use as your link. Right click it and copy the image location. Here on LBPC, hit the 'insert image' icon at the top of the post editor, paste in your link, and hit 'ok'. (Alternately, just paste the link into your post and use tags around it) Highlight that whole thing and hit the 'link' icon at the top of the post editor. Paste in the level page link from karting.lbp.me and hit 'ok' Presto, linked level badge!

The raw code for the above level badge will look like this:

cool, thanks Taff. I think that would be useful tip to add to the original guide at the top if poo (or a mod) wants to edit it in.

Thanks for the idea Adi! I just added a 3 step process to the bottom showing how to add a level link (I added it there since at that point in the process you should be viewing your level on karting.lbp.me, so you can just grab the pic while you are there).2012-11-20 20:13:00

Request to have this topic moved to [LBPK] Levels and Object Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?159-LBPK-Level-and-Object-Showcase) and renamed along the lines of "Please read this before posting your levels here". This will help newer members with posting levels on that board and minimize posts where people do not even put a lbp.me link in their topic or forget to set their profile to be publicly viewable on the internet (I was guilty of the latter when I started becoming more active on LBPC). Examples of these posts:
