From Dust Till Bloom

Archive: 10 posts

Hey!

I just finished creating my first LBPK track "From Dust Till Bloom (https://karting.lbp.me/v/1eih)". At first i really had trouble with the controls in the new 3D world, but i hope in the end my fisrt attempt turned out good

You'll race through two very different landscapes: A hot and dusty desert and a lovely flowering area with many trees, flowers and water. This track has many jumps, some tricky curves and i also tried to make some weapons myself. There's a mine with a sombrero, a flying chili, a flower boost and also some aggressive blossoms
Well, i hope you like the track and have fun racing! Please give some feedback that i can improve my skills for further tracks

PS: Drice through the blue barrels on the road to score some extra points...

This was one of the best looking community levels I have played yet. I must admit that I haven't played many, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere you created with the changing track as well at the scenery in and around the track. It all melded together very nicely and the music was well picked in my opinion Great work with all of that.

Also, I enjoyed the weapons. Nothing seemed like a standard weapon so that was nice to see as well. I didn't even bother with that in my first level and I wish I had because I enjoyed seeing your weapons so much. Also, it was nice seeing you open a path with a button!.

Wow, so lots of good things

I did have one issue, but before I get into that, let's get one things straight: I really suck at racing. I absolutely love karting games, but after playing community levels, it is becoming apparent that I am not very good. I'm not sure if it is because the AI is always set so hard (I haven't had the chance to play online with human players yet) or if it is really because I suck so much. Your level is certainly not the first where I felt like I was really struggling, but I got the most frustrated on this one. The major issue probably had to do with the fact that you have no items like Fast Forward or the Punching Glove that would help me catch up, so once I died twice, I was pretty much a lost cause making me not even want to finish. In fact, even with me trying my hardest, I still don't think I finished my second lap before the DNF kicked in

BUT! Like I said, this may just have to do with the fact that I am not very good. Have you had a chance to have someone else try the level out to see how they do? That might give a good idea. Also, is the AI set to expert? If they are then perhaps it could be toned down a bit if others struggle with it too. Though if someone else plays and does fine (other than you since you are used to the course) then you should just chalk it up to me sucking at racing

One other thing is that it would be nice to decorate further outside the course or cover it up someone. Your course and the area near it was beautiful, some of the best I have seen in fact, but if you looked out in the distance it was barren. It would probably be good to either cover that up or do something with it. Not a big deal though! Most people don't decorate the track area or the distant area, so you are already way ahead of the curve, but I think it could really help to do something about the area in the distance.

Really great level. Please don't think my criticisms mean that the level was bad. I just wanted to give you my honest feedback since I was struggling at times.

Thanks for the plays & comments and thanks for your detailed review amazingflyingpoo!
I really put much work in that track, probably about 10 hours... so i'm very happy to hear that you like it

I guess the track really turned out a bit tricky/difficult... maybe i put too many obstacles on the road, but when i created i was worried that it could get boring with too less stuff lying around I'll have another look at the difficulty-problems (including the skill of the AI).

Again, thanks for all your feedback!!
