Silent hill 2 REBORN (spotlighted!)

Archive: 22 posts

i have decided to recreate most of silent hill 2 as levels on littlebigplanet, i have already made an intro ( which contains the ''promise'' song ) and i have also made the apartment building which took me ages and was hard work!

there isnt much danger but accurate and detailed environments are all there plus i have made my own music for level

please play cause i have recieved a bad star rating and tags although i know its a 4 star - 5 star level

silent hill fans wont be disapointed :*)

THIS LEVEL WAS SPOTLIGHTED

just did a play through and here are well my thought ^^":

Part one:

God the details here are amazing ^^"! Superb! *Claps*
You guys truly did capture the atmosphere of silent hill ... ohh and the cars blinking? genius!
The music were pretty well done too ^^"

No cons for this part !!!

5 stars and hearted

Part two:

And yet again ... your eye for details are really impressive!
The monsters were spectacular! Really well done! Specially the zombie with arms limping
The atmosphere here was also great!
The SFX were greatly used! ... oooh the dog barking!!! ... sooo ... Silent Hill-like
The cutscene with the girl that drags a knife was really memorable!!! kudos for that!

Here are some advice though ...
Place more monsters?
Tweak the puzzle stage ... where you need to gather and place the circular keys. That really takes a long time >,<

Overall ... you guys made two spectacular Silent Hill levels! But please tweak the second part a bit ... >,<" ...

Hey man,
Just gave part 2 apartments a run through. Thats a cool level you got there.

Pros:
-The feel, it was a good creepiness you had going there. All the sound effects and lighting worked great.
-Satisfaction, felt like winning a game to complete the level. It didnt take a long time or overly challenging but it had a nice beginning, middle and ending.

Cons:
-Kinda got confussed a couple times about where I was suppose to go, mainly after I got a key, but it didnt take long stumblin' around until I found the new area that had opened.
-When I got the first key (I think it was the first) there was a prison closet or something, I jumped in it and then it gave me the speech that I got the key and then it trapped me in there. I don't know if I was suppose to be able to get out (or in for that matter) but had to RETRY to exit.
-In the puzzle room (with the 3 balls) there was an annoying sound that kept going off, and with the awkwardness of trying to get things in the right place it took me a minute or 2 and I wanted to punch that sound effect.

Other then those 3 minor things the level was great. The work you put into it really shines though.

I apologize about the rudeness of my post. it wasn't meant to sound as though i was an elitist jerk, i was honestly trying to give good feedback. My main concern with the uneven stairs is that it makes the flow of the level less engaging, if you wanted them to look delapidated, if it were me, i would have made the stairs evenly, then removed a step or two. (just because previously, before bad stuff happened, they were probably precisely even)

I wanted to let you know that the zombies were easily bypassed, if that was your intention, that's okay. the zombie in the room with the closing closet thing when bypassed, broke the pyramid head guy.

Certain portions, like the banisters, and where you have to go from a 3-depth piece to a 2-depth piece (as near the stairs) were not flush and even. also fine if that is the look you are going for, but my opinion is if you want it to look delapidated and broken, then it should just be broken. I would change a few of the stickers from large fingerprints to dirt and rust also, because it looks like a very dirty giant was groping your level.

This level has a lot of promise, and i had a lot of fun playing it through, it had good tension, the sound effects were well done, and mostly the camera angles let you see what you needed to see, and didn't when it would provide a little scare. i like the crib near the end with the gun in it, i thought that was funny and kinda sick very silent hill. I wanted to let you know that I want your level to grow and become part of my hearted library so i can use it to show my friends the ingenuity of the LBP community, however i shouldn't have let myself sound like such a huge prick like i did. My most sincere apologies to you, i know how much it sucks to read the bad criticism, without any good.

Hi talmasca,

I had the chance to play both your levels yesterday.
First of all, i would like to say you that i'm a big fan of the Silent Hill series. Your visual reference to the game is GREAT!
I really found the SH atmospher i was waiting! Congratulation for that!
I will make some comments for part 1 then for part 2.

PART 1:

It is an introductive level to the series.

Pros:
- I was really impressed by your SH music. I really loved to heard again this great melody and your composal is really good.
-Atmosphere was Good.
-The costume creation section is a good idea when thinking about the whole serie.

Suggests:
-I would like to see more custom trees here. The mushroom trees are so used in the online levels, that it become a little bit boring. Since the forest is the only one environment here i think that tree variety would be great.
-I think you could make a great use of White gaz materials in your level. I saw you increased the fog to mask your background, but well used whtite gaz could give a fog atmosphere in playing planes.
-I know that it is an introductive level but i found that the player is extremely passive. Why don't let the player control the car with a lever and dispose gameplay elements out of it? The great music could continue during this time... You also can do impressive title screen that appears in the background. Same comments for the costume creation section (but it seems to me minor in this section since player can do the costume and be active at this level...oh, yes, i admit i don't take the time to do my Sutherland costume )

PART 2:
The true things start....

Pros:
-Your ENEMIES were PERFECTS man! I was anxious to see how you could did it. Special mention to the four legs nurse: they are living!
-Your puzzles are great and reminiscent of SH (the clock and its answer, the three medals to place...). I loved this!
- Your Conehead is AWESOME. I was afraid when he came the first time.
-Your music at the end is here again perfect. Really impressive.

Suggests:
-Here again, you could use white gaz to simulate fog environment.
-I think you could make in this level better use of lightnings. It could add white/green ambiance that fit well the theme.
-I think the second apparition (where there are two in opposite direction)of conehead is not necessary. I would like to see him two times in the level: the first time (it is perfect), and the second time at the end of the level, i would like to see him chasing me more long time!!!!
- PLEASE, here i have a request: Don't use MGS stickers in a Silent Hill references... I think it is really, really not appropriate here. I think the "solid", "boss" and the "old Snake face" stickers must stay in the MGS reference levels...

Overall, a very good work!
I already hearted the Part 2 (and 5 stars) and i hope you will take in account my suggests, in particular concerning Part 1
I keep an eye on your topic and would be happy to play them again if you make some changes

BTW, i hearted you as a creator too

It was a great map and beating it felt really good. The enemies rock and puzzles were great. Oh and the use of sounds!

Minor(minor(minor)(:blush) Improvements:

Between two houses (i dont remember wich) where theres that pipe with part of it broken. when you run from right to left your movement stops if you dont jump even if the gaps really small and your sackboy jumps back to the ally when you want to move forward

Part 3:
I think part one is a bit slow but its an intro so it works really well and I think the atmoshpere works really well aswell, 5 star and heart

Part 2:
Spooky, the moving bodies work really well and the sound effects are well placed, I did'nt finish part two but from what I saw the envirmont was detailed, 5 star and heart

Amazing work, Level 2 was great. All I would recommend is a flashlight or something? I'm not sure how you'd do that but I bet you could figure something out.2009-01-24 09:24:00

i thot i while on how 2 make a flashlight, but all i could think of is a draggable light which would b awkward and limit the level 2 one layer, plus the gamma can be channged in options if the level seems 2 dark on some ppls tvs 2009-01-27 16:25:00

I see you got some positive feedback here... but I just didn't like it... I remember playing it two days ago and....

Well saying that I didn't like it is enough. They say you have some details but I didn't actually see them. The enemys were just random. It just felt for me that way.

It's not as good at as the other SH lvs.

Man... you did this perfectly... it doesn't have all the crazy special effects from 4 or the movie that the one SH remake has, but it's definitely got more survival horror feeling, better homages, better enemy designs, and more details that really capture the feeling. The intro level is probably the only music level I've actually enjoyed playing. The way you set it up to need keys and solve puzzles was genius and so was hiding in the closet - lol, I was so glad when I found the gun. I think you should limit the shots it allows you to really make it survival horror.

The sticker work and details in this level are flawless, as well as the sounds. lol @ this door is locked from the other side... lol @ the shaking fridge... LMAO @ "the old one" being Old Snake

Thanks for the secret area and the music. I don't know how you got it to play in a static way like that, but it was great. wow @ all the switch arrangements. I got the Lyne House key... don't think I used it anywhere. Did I miss something?

This was an amazing level. I also played your Fallout 3 and Oddworld levels, and this is by far your best recreation. Great job.

the music is played using a special 'music strip' i invented lol
if ur interested bout it ill set up a thread explaining how its done

the lyne house key just opens the door leading to the pyramid head boss

i originally had limited shots but i never saw it on any other level so i figured it wasnt popular to run out of ammo lol

thanks for the comments though, it has made my day lol

Hi talmasca!

I didn't found the time to replay this level, but i was wondering if you added smoke effects as i suggested you before?
I think it will be very great in this level and would like to replay it if you added such elements
If you don't play it anymore, i recommend you to take a look to the first part of my "The Bearer - Part III: The Fellowship". I used white fog in this way here.

i did try white fog like u sed, it looked good but it made that fly buzzing sound which killed the atmosphere and also killed me :S the level is too tightly packed to fit in a good looking amount of fog.

yh ill try urs levels soon
