Creation Mode: Custom Confusion

Archive: 7 posts

Hey there Sackfolks, hoping I could get some help with some custom creation stuff. I've spent a lot of time in the editor and feel like I'm wasting a ton of time trying to figure out something that's supposed to be fairly user friendly. My wife and I loved the Battle Mode maps in the game, but being as there were only a very few of them, I thought I'd contribute to the community as such. That said, when working on an arena, it looks as though everything must be custom made. Cool, I like the idea more than driving out a course and populating it with extras. However, the grid isn't consistent and therefore doesn't work for any purpose, objects pass right through each other (which is really confusing when you can't count on your grid to line things up), and the item manipulation is very loose (especially without the beloved corner editor). I've looked everywhere for details on how to make custom things to expedite my creation process, but it feels like I'm not able to accomplish what I'm wanting without a huge time suck and a steep learning curve. I've noticed that we don't have any tutorials on here regarding this, and I've got no idea where to look. Any help, suggestions, tips, or ideas would be very welcome. It's no good having big plans for cool multiplayer maps and not be able to do much about it. If I come up with anything myself in my messing around with it, I'll promptly post it to help tackle this new creation beast.

Edit: Playing around I've noticed that for custom items/settings, there isn't a simple way. Since abandoning an approach searching for a "plug and play" for these sorts of things I've had much better luck manually doing everything.

create mode is hard but well worth learning! if you have had any experience with any 3d editor or animation program like 3ds max or blender you will realise that all 3d editors which have advanced controls are difficult! the lbpk engine can do so much and i think people are just scratching the surface of it!2012-11-16 00:51:00

I haven't yet figured out a way to easily transfer geo-painted (i.e., custom) objects, otherwise I'd be happy to make whatever you like for you. I'm not all that great at making tracks and arenas and whatnot but I loved creating 3D objects. Really fun.2012-11-16 01:00:00

I don't think there is anyway to avoid it - this editor is a huge time sink. Even a standard level with some detail, custom objects, and polish takes hours. I just crossed the 24 hour threshold on my first track (got a trophy at least).2012-11-20 15:11:00

it has taken me 100+ hours to get used to the editor but i feel really condfident in the create side now. The only thing that still confuses me is the way this game handles logic! I think i mentioned it in another thread but for some reason bot players won't follow a tag that is on a microchip! it has to be something they can physically touch/see on the track or object! i spent hours wondering why it would not work and there was nothing to tell me otherwise!! I think that's just a bug. I reported a similar problem with the Controlinator in the beta, it didn't work inside a chip. I think they fixed that in the final game, but they must have missed the tag.

I hope they put up something like getsatisfaction for LBPK soon, so we can start reporting these.
