Levels can be created LBPK where the bounds of the track are not obvious. It'd be nice to have some indication in preview mode that you're driving a section that's out-of-bounds or off-track before switching to play mode. The same messages that appear in play mode could appear, just without all the popping.

Im not quite sure what your asking, but If you press pause while you are in create mode. and go to options there is an option that you can turn on so that the game shows the playable areas of you track while you are creating and racing, there is even an option to have the A.I race for you in play mode so you can see if the A.I is able to play on you map. Hope it help!
