LBPCentral is now ad-free

Archive: 40 posts

Do you know who likes ads? Nobody. So I got rid of them.

Going forward, all registered users of LBPC will experience a distinct lack of site advertisements.

Enjoy.

Here's hoping that unregistered visitors will get the evil ads.
I'm mean, I know. And EVIL

Seriously, thank Taffey

Also Taffey I haven't congratulated you yet.

Congratulations! Couldn't think of anyone better for the job.

Ads? Joke's on you, LBPC. I installed adblock on my Chrome months ago.

I had long forgotten the site had ads

Great job Taffey. that's a step in a right direction~ Must mean you have a good job if you can afford to get rid of them. *mew

I only ever saw the ads when i logged on the site with my PS3 personally. Every PC i've ever been on in the last 4 years always have had ad block on it.

Wow, this is a nice start(ish) for my day. Extra thanks are in order since ads normally bring in revenue. Three cheers for Taffey! 2012-11-14 17:28:00

I thought the ads were the reason this site had enough money to keep going

Also, was I the only one that put this site on adblock exceptions so that it could get a little cash?

So does this mean that you're paying extra money just to keep us from seeing ads, Taffey?Actually, yes. That pretty much sums it up. Just shows how much I love you guys.

I thought the ads were the reason this site had enough money to keep going The ads do (did) provide a morsel of what the site needs to keep going, yes, but I assure you that the presence of ads (or lack thereof) ultimately will have very little at all to do with the site's ability to maintain itself financially going forward. Trust me on that.

LBPC has always had a loyal base of site donors that do way more than the ads ever did, and that right there is more than I could ever hope for. Besides, making life easier for everyone on LBPC is unquestionably the right thing to do.

On that note, the last time I donated was when CC was in the hotseat - I've been wary of doing so since then as I'd noticed the payee email was still his, and was worried the funds might not get back to central (not from fowl play on cc's part, more from no one having access to it, if you see what I mean?)

Are the donations still functional and going where they're intended? because if so... i'm due to give another little bit

I am certainly not going to go the route of actively begging for donations. With that said, however..... Donations are instrumental in helping me do happy things like turn off site ads. Every little bit helps, as the saying goes.

And I'm glad you asked about who is receiving the donations. All the donate (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/misc.php?do=donate) links have been updated to point to my account (tross13@juno.com) which, you will be glad to see, is a PayPal officially verified account, meaning it's legit. Even MC Hammer would approve.

I was running a partial exception, front page and subforums with ads and adblock in topics because its blocking a few sigs and avatars too.

Thanks for paying for the ads instead. Shame this November the month is half over and the counter isn't displaying any donations. I would donate, but I can't afford it without getting something return, even the green dot because of the $10 minimum.

Perhaps there are less donations because the PlayStation Vita is somewhat pricey for most users (relative to purchasing an iPod touch instead, for example) and that LittleBigPlanet Karting isn't worth giving $60 for yet.

Also:

Do you know who likes ads? Nobody.

Liar! Some are quite useful if the advertisement is actually of something you like. Like advertisements on reddit! Why not have user-created ads like they do, perhaps for levels or just screenshots and community content? Or pictures of kittens or cute screenshots of Sackboy stuffed with fluff, love and ice cream!

I'm still curious to know who a 35 yr old mother of 2 makes ?35,000 a year working from home, or how a 65yr old woman looks 25 because of some magic wrinkle reducing nonsense. Darn you Taffey!!!

Especially since people like me have been running adblock+ for years.

Plus, paid services are always better. ^_^

I'm really liking this a ton. I've only been coming to LBPC for a short while, but I almost considered stopping because of the intrusive ads and redirects that sometimes occurred. I'm glad not to have to worry about that anymore.2012-11-16 05:13:00

"How about now?"

Thank you, I needed those ads in my face. If you don't have pop-up blocker in this day and age you're a sucker. I only saw the top ad on the site so I never really noticed anything. I clicked on it at one point and bought some lotion....no I didn't.

I do wonder how we went from a donation bar at the top and simply not being able to continue without them to this, but never mind, this is great news. A very clever way of making yourself our favorite admin 2012-11-19 22:25:00
