How to Shrink Jetpacks

Archive: 16 posts

I'm not too sure if this has been posted yet, sorry if it has been.

Here is how to shrink jetpacks for whatever reason you made need.

Take a jetpack and place it by itself.
Take the object saver tool and save the jetpack.
Then take an emitter and place it somewhere.
Set the object coming out of the emitter as the jetpack.
When you go to place the jetpack, after you select it in the emitter options, scale the jetpack down as small as you want.
Then have the emitter send one out for you.

Now you can save the scaled down jetpack to use later.

This comes handy if you need a jetpack somewhere small and you don't want it interfering with your design.

great find, will be very useful in some circumstances!
I'm gonna try if it works on checkpoints too , i hate not being able to resize checkpoints to make them fit in small spaces.

I think I tried resizing checkpoints that way once, and they just didn't work and started throwing up Game Overs all over the show.
I might have just been doing it wrong though.

I've tried it now and from what i see it works flawlessly, it also works on all the other objectors in the tools page =D Got a really small scoreboard race etc =D2009-01-17 06:50:00

Yes. Objectisation actually let's you shrink everything smaller than what the game generally permits you.

You can even make any material invisible that way and not just dark matter. I didn't test if they lose all keep their collision though.

hmmm... Long process to go through if you want to make a little strip invisable, But hey, i think i could think of a few good ways to do this with umm... say score bubbles (Just lay down about 1500 of those little buggers, let them fall in to a room space (so they are mostly distributed evenly, save all of them in the rectangular shape that they are in and then shrink down and you got yourself a supper bubble slush and it would help anyone who is trying to get the 1,000,000 points trophy in the matter of say, a second?) But great, Although i think i am going to stick with the invisable Rubber and invisable Dark matter.

Cheers!

there are easier way to make invisible walls (out of anything) simply make your wall very long, select it, rotate it 45 degrees and shrink it

TA-DA!

useful as you can make invisible dissolve so the wall isnt there forever and invisible hazards

(also you get to use gas without that dam noise)

Ohh...I didn't know that. Have a couple places in my Deep Sead Diver Level i am working on that I couldn't find a solution to this problem. Thanks Mrgenji!

No problem, glad to help

If your using dissolve or a hazard though, you have to put the hazard/switch on before you shrink it. Otherwise you wont be able to select it while invisible

This is a fantastic ability. Another great thing is that it's possible to still glue these jetpacks to the ground by letting it emit in Create Mode and then sticking it down.
I don't know how you guys get this information initially, I've never even tried emitting something out of the Tools Bag before.

Although this is a great find, I can't see any way that I could use this. Anyone have any ideas?

It's completely awesome for custom objects. When I make custom objects I work in "giant form". It's easier to apply details, stickers and such. After that you shrink your object the size you need in your level.

Also, those tricks we find are because of experimentation my friend.

I know, but like, do you look for those things, or do you just discover them as you go along?

Hard to tell.

My mind is curious and out of the blue there's questions popping in. You know those "what if I..." type of questions.

I think this would be very useful in creating water. Can you make the Jetpacks invisible? If so, two rows of invisible jetpacks atop the water. The top layer with a tiny radius and the bottom layer with max. Now, you have an illusion of water, where you can swim!2009-01-19 09:14:00
