Game Making

Archive: 12 posts

I know what each and every one of you is thinking. OH GOD ROCK'S AT IT AGAIN. And you're right. It's really quite sad.

Anyway, my dream has never died. I've just- well, you know, had my spirit crushed over and over again. But I thought I'd give it another shot, or at the very least see if anyone was in my relative position.

Anyway, does anyone else have similar dreams? And/or wish to bop me on the head for bringing this up again? And/or be crazy enough to embark on another wacky adventure? And/or hi?

*bop*

It's highly unlikely that your first game will become very successful. :/ I know from experience...

I think I know of only one person who's game was successful, and it was their first.

Hold onto those dreams. :kz:

Well, does LBPC: The Game count? I managed to see that through to completion... even if it was in an overseer role :/ And not a "game" per say as a level series with a fancy name.

Anyway, I can't do anything by myself, I know that much

Remember that time we tried to make an RPG but didn't?
And that other time?
And there was probably another time idk.....if I wasn't overwhelmingly busy I'd consider trying again haha -__-

You shouldn't even consider making games until you're good enough with all the software to actually be able to pull it off. Even then, start really small making simple things.

DON'T RUIN HIS DREAMS

It's more fun this way.

I have a big dream game to create, two actually. And I plan to make 'em.

Obviously, the time is not here yet.

I'm a computer science major with an eye towards the game industry so by all means I'm happy to encourage you in your dreams. Making games is a lot of fun and incredible when you have a final product to show for it.2012-11-15 02:30:00

Form what I learned, making a well thought out game is almost difficult to achieve. I couldn't even finish the story for LBPC RPG after a small confusion about its direction took place. Funnily enough, I kept the image I made listing everybody's roles.

Anyways, want to make a "successful" game?

Make it a horror or obscure game.
Label it indie.
Emphasize it's art.

Bam! Every indie game ever. Have fun.

My game "Super Smash Bros Blast" was my first and fan game and was succesful. Reached my goal. 1000 plays, 4 or above star ratings, and more stages than Brawl. you can find it at yoyogames and type up super smash bros blast. my user is UltimateXsniper. As of now my other games like generations and meta knight adventure is not popular but is getting good ratings. Im still updating the game but as of now i have nothing planned.2012-11-20 06:01:00

Maybe, when you create a new project, don't try and make it 'bigger and better' than the project you failed or gave up on. Scale back your next project.

A personal example: I have created games for the 48-hour game contest 'Ludum Dare'. The first time I entered, the game I had in mind was too complex for an amateur like me to finish in time. The next Ludum Dare (LD#24), I scaled back my idea, and actually finished a game, called Gravallax (http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-24/?action=preview&uid=10301). I was surprised it #531 overall out of 1406 entries.
