Another Slender level, but WAIT! This one is GOOD.

Archive: 9 posts

Hey there, first post for me. Anyways, I have spent the better part of a few weeks making a slender level on lbp vita. Now before you get angry because there are SO many slender levels, hear me out. I wanted to make this one because the other ones weren't as good as they could have been. Most of them were side scrolling, and the few that weren't have poor controls and music. I wanted to make a Slender level that had a slender FEEl to it. So please, try my level, give me feedback, e.t.c i would greatly appreciate it.

Here is the level: http://vita.lbp.me/v/e6g-5

Thank you for reading.

I'll queue it just because I'm nice and no one else has responded, even though I've already played a ton of Slender levels. Honestly, you probably would have been better off just calling it something else than Slender and putting a different spin on it.2012-11-19 03:40:00

Perhaps it's because I haven't taken too many dips into the LBP Vita community pond, but I haven't played any Slender levels yet! In fact, until now I wasn't aware that they were even a plague to the cool pages.

I'll give your level a shot because I'm nice, and because I haven't had my view on Slender levels tainted...yet.

Hey dexter432432,

I just played your level, and it was pretty good. If I could, I'd like to make a few suggestions.

Firstly, I'd recommend a sackbot in a top-down controllinator instead of a wooden man as the playable character. It looks much better and allows the player to play as their own sackperson. Secondly, you should use logic to activate sprint instead of a rocket. The rocket looks unsightly and makes that silly sound and smoke trail when you use it. Finally, the entire "fear factor" from Slender comes from the fact that you never actually see the Slenderman move--he's always just right behind you when you turn around. Your level seemed to lack a lot of that fear, because you can see the Slenderman following you.

Good work with the level! Unfortunately I don't have any published levels in LBP Vita yet for F4F, but that's ok. I'll take a rain-check.

I finally got around to writing this down, although I did write a review on your level as well. I thought it was decent, but as xero said it could use some improvements.

First off, I went through a crack in the wall of the level and ended up at the level floor. I was able to get back, but it didn't look very good when it happened. I'd definitely fix that, it seems like an easy fix. I also didn't get the controls right away, a short tutorial on the controls would have been appreciated.

Finally, the slenderman seemed a bit... well, he just chased behind me until he outran me. I could see him even when he wasn't in the flashlight, so that ruined a bit of the scariness for me. I would have preferred the slenderman to be a bit less visible.

If you want, you can play my level Drummer Unlimited, as it's my only good level out right now, but I've gotten plenty of feedback on it already, so it's not really necessary.

Alright thanks for the advice, I tried to use logic for sprint but couldn't get it to work... any advice on that? Also, I will try to revamp the slender A.I, because I agree him just chasing you probably isnt as scary as it could be. I was thinking of using emitters to make slender travel around the map, it might work. BTW! The controls are in the description!2012-11-24 17:10:00

The easiest way to implement sprint would be to adjust the analog speed scale input when they have a button pressed. I'd just have it so there are two microchips with batteries that feed into an or gate that connects to the speed scale input. When the sprint button is pushed, the microchip with the higher value battery is activated, when it is not pushed just have the other microchip with the lower value battery active.

Hope that wasn't too confusing.
