May I introduce the fruits of half a year's labor... http://ib.lbp.me/img/ft/7cbbab1948a6a5c2f6a1e3488da02b7f2a918cf1.jpg A series I am in the process of making. Here's the intro: http://lbp.me/v/bzk2ms And now, I will show you part 1. If you are unfamiliar with this series, let me give you a summary: Sackbots, after years of suffering under the humiliation of being our puppets, being forced to dance, sing, act, and follow, have finally snapped. Armed with The Popit Sackbot, they quickly took over craftworld, taking everyone by surprise and killing thousands upon thousands of sack things. Now, they hold total control over the universe-even Media Molecule cowers before them. There are still pockets of resistance, however; groups of sack things in hiding, clinging on to the hope that they will one day take back craftworld for themselves. The sackbots, however, have a plan to eradicate all such resistance off the face of the earth, killings all sack things in the process. Which is good-if you're a sackbot. (You'll have to play the intro to learn more.) This series will draw inspiration from many genres and games especially Fallout and Cave Story. The gameplay will be mainly based on exploration, puzzle-solving, and a bit of platforming here and there. This series is also very story-driven, and will feature many cut scenes. In fact, it is so story-driven that Part 1 will make no sense if you don't play the intro first. Since Part 1 is incomplete, it is a locked level on my earth. You can get the key through this lockbox: http://lbp.me/v/gherqz The code is 2071. Here are some pictures from Part 1: (The menu screen.) http://ic.lbp.me/img/ft/35c351c1f33a5aa89d9210b956bc8951049329be.jpg (A travel ship in the Sackbot City.) http://i6.lbp.me/img/ft/31689f7f94f8f6129c346d93474b49513536d378.jpg (LIfe in a resistance fortress.) http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/6e8216fbe7949c27ef63b17510e1780c53bf5833.jpg http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/c90a2c00c7d1d64593b0e5c471076dadacd9b4b1.jpg There are some parts of Part 1 which I have made, but have not implemented into the level yet. http://i1.lbp.me/img/ft/fe14fcb38b433a2032799a87d050a5e0403c2b2d.jpg http://i1.lbp.me/img/ft/9a13f33c074fe7ce4572f4f74ddca8c63d9e3278.jpg So what do I want? Testers. Critics. Lots of testers and critics. I want every scrap of advice you people can throw at me to improve this. I will take your honest criticism with open arms and a "why didn't I think of that?". Oh, and if you find a bug, I love you. I will update this thread as I update this level. | 2012-11-11 02:58:00 Author: Kalawishis Posts: 928 |
Can't wait till Part 1 is finished! My critisisms: The visuals could be a bit better. (Especially if you want that Sackie Award!) Some nice use of stickers like "Dirt Smear", certain finger print stickers, that sticker you get when bombs explode near a material - those should work great - and others to add texture to your materials. You could add a few decorations here there! Maybe some more use of the Corner Editor in a few places. Also, it will look better if you used fonts created by other creators (or you could make some yourself) instead of stickers. In the second picture you uploaded, the clouds look lumpy and weird. You could use the official clouds in the Scenic section of your Popit (I think that's where they are). The ship could use corner editing and some more decorations/detail. In the forth picture you uploaded, the resized light in the top-left corner looks...weird. Maybe you could make a custom light that works with that size? Hope this helps! | 2012-11-11 03:51:00 Author: Buttarms Posts: 142 |
I remember playing the intro and loved it! If you need costume help, I'd love to do the honors. | 2012-11-12 22:48:00 Author: amoney1999 Posts: 1202 |
I shall be updating soon with videos of some gameplay elements. Thanks, Buddy, for the criticism. I am working on it. I remember playing the intro and loved it! If you need costume help, I'd love to do the honors. That would actually be helpful. I suck at costume making. | 2012-11-15 03:40:00 Author: Kalawishis Posts: 928 |
I have gameplay footage! Yes, the quality is atrocious, sorry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMMGsBykcVw&feature=plcp Another sorry for not having this sooner. It's a 6 minute video of one of the four gameplay sections that will be in SackDroid - Part 1. The rest of the level is just cutscenes. This is one of the introductory sections that is more of a means to get you used to gameplay elements than to challenge you. Some more pics as well, from recently made or implemented sections: http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/e085af178a5dded12ae15a7332b41c7f706aa830.jpg http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/c34e911e45fdf3abe330cc7cb7b31fccbfe5e311.jpg http://ib.lbp.me/img/ft/f5b34827cb9476f4cd0e0c810a54e76afe1f722b.jpg | 2012-11-26 00:06:00 Author: Kalawishis Posts: 928 |
My last shot. If this doesn't pique your interest, I don't know what will. I haven't given up on this. I just spent a huge amount of time working on a big section of this and didn't think to update. Well here it is, one big update. First: New pics: http://i6.lbp.me/img/ft/8d617095ff2635df06cf7747d6ad70075f37f862.jpg http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/8b34bdfe27267321363415f86a540403bc6348b2.jpg http://i5.lbp.me/img/ft/1b540a3681ed8e156e45f643be5b46d13743761a.jpg http://i7.lbp.me/img/ft/8d70b81b9e3ce0255b35fdf172bce0e2fb5f4763.jpg Merely a small fraction of the new section I have just finished. Said section is a school in the underground fortress, and is the final gameplay section. Only thing I have to do now is make the finishing cutscenes and fix bugs and SackDroid - Part 1, my blood, sweat, tears, bloody sweat, teary blood, and sweaty tears, will be done. I suppose I should describe the gameplay in SackDroid - Part 1. It will be mostly based on exploration and puzzle solving. There are four gameplay sections, the first three merely introducing you to concepts and having basic puzzles, with the fourth being like a "test" (appropriate, since it's a school) with difficult puzzles, and much exploration required. Gameplay elements: Exploration The gameplay sections, save the first, will be large and with many rooms. There is no clear path to take in any section, with the characters, cutscenes, and your brain guiding the way (save section 1, which is easy due to it being the first section). While sections 2 and 3 do not require much exploration, they are still relatively open and you'll have to go into rooms and backtrack if you want to progress. Section four will require much exploration and backtracking, with different rooms holding information or elements to solving the puzzle. You are thrown into section four without any indication of where to go, just what you have to do. And to do that, you must explore. Puzzle Solving The gameplay sections all have puzzles to solve. The first section has ridiculously easy puzzles where you are practically told what to do. The second and third section have puzzles that, while not way too easy, are still relatively go-to-this-place-and-do-this. The fourth section, however, will require much brainpower. There is one main puzzle in the fourth section, and it is not easy-in fact, it is quite complicated. It requires much gathering of information and reading and talking to complete. Speaking of which... Conversations SackDroid will have you talking to people in order to gain information or to gain access to something. You basically just have people talk to you and you give a reply, like in Mass Effect. However, instead of influencing the later game, conversations will be a type of puzzle. Conversations can be won or lost, with winning meaning getting the right info or access to solve the puzzle at hand, and losing meaning getting nothing and quite possibly angering the person you're talking to. The first and second sections will be basic conversations that are impossible to lose, with the third section having a more complex type of conversation with you being able to win or lose (but the game never becomes unwinnable), and the fourth section having diverse, multi-stage conversations where losing is common and will probably result in setbacks. Oh, and I didn't steal this from Taffey. Inventory Will be introduced in the fourth section, due to its complexity. You will be able to pick up items and use them to gain information or help solve a puzzle. Items are diverse, with some being essential, and some just unlocking some extras. Some will be selectable, which will produce different effects based on the item, and some will work when they please. Using items will require a degree of lateral thinking at times, but, since they are introduced late, will not require much. And final gameplay element... Going Places You will be able to go in and out of rooms, through doors, meaning more area to explore than meets the eye. Not too innovative, which I freely admit. But perhaps the most innovative thing in SackDroid is flipping, where the camera goes to the back side of a level, turns around, and faces the screen. You will see sections with a whole new perspective, facing the other side, meaning a room could have twice as much depth as before. The front layer becomes the back layer, the back layer becomes the front layer, and the middle layer gets dizzy. Okay, that doesn't actually happen (you just teleport to a room meant to look like the flip side of a room), but it, paired with doors, can make even a small room have tons of area to explore and tons of depth. So...yeah. SackDroid. Still looking for feedback! | 2013-01-24 04:18:00 Author: Kalawishis Posts: 928 |
Well I'm queuing the intro right now. Feedback soon. I love costume creating as well. If you give me some guidelines, I could try and make some *hopefully great* costumes for you? Cheers, flyinhawaiian | 2013-01-24 14:28:00 Author: flyinhawaiian Posts: 357 |

Well, SackDroid is pretty near done, so I'm mostly just looking for feedback and bugs. But thanks for offering. | 2013-01-24 22:09:00 Author: Kalawishis Posts: 928 |
