Need help creating a Special Level.
Archive: 15 posts
Hello, I hope I can post this topic here in the Help section. What I'm looking for is for somebody who could help me create a special level. I want to make a romantic level and at the end asking: Will you be my Girlfriend? You see I've been wanting to ask this girl out and so I thought of a unique way to ask her but I'm not too good at making levels on LBP and so I thought maybe somebody here could help me out, I know there are a lot of talented people on these forums. Anyway I know I can't ask for all this without offering a reward so what I have is a slot of a PSN account with the following: Borderlands + all DLC Costume Quest + all DLC it's not much but it's the most I can offer, anyways if you are a very creative person and wish to help me out please send me a mesage on PSN (Shadow_Sake) with LBP in the message, also I would prefer if you had a mic so we could plan it together. | 2012-11-10 21:30:00 Author: Unknown User |
New PSN account in LBP, plus first post on this board, and an odd one at that? Something strikes me as off, here. Either this fellow is a Poe, or just a kid who doesn't realise how creepy this idea really is. Also, Gamesharing is forbidden by both PSN, and LBPC Rules. | 2012-11-10 22:02:00 Author: Ostler5000 Posts: 1017 |

I thought it would be a nice and creative way to ask a girl. And I'm sorry I was not aware that gamesharing was forbidden so I guess I can't give anything in return except a thanks, sorry abut that. Oh and I used to have an account here but I forgot the password to it so I had to make another one, my original account was ShadowSake with no underscord. | 2012-11-10 22:06:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hmmm. I don't want to come across as a little intrusive, nor insulting, but may I ask both your age, and your current relationship with this girl? Also, where do you know her from? | 2012-11-10 22:08:00 Author: Ostler5000 Posts: 1017 |

Well, I'm 17 (the 26th of this month) and she's a neighbor I've known since I was 14. | 2012-11-10 22:10:00 Author: Unknown User |
Right, well, you're certainly old enough, I guess. I was concerned you might just be 12 or something. It's kind of comical when kiddies talk about relationships. As for her, I'd say your idea is only any good if she is also an avid gamer, and specifically, an LBP player. If she doesn't play games regularly, she's going to find your idea creepy and a little bizarre. If she is, it'll probably seem cute, otherwise, I'd strongly encourage you not to do this. | 2012-11-10 22:18:00 Author: Ostler5000 Posts: 1017 |
Well I know she likes playing video games but she's not a LBP player specifically, I plan to go on al least a few more dates and then invite her over to my house and hopefully have this level finished so I can play it with her. | 2012-11-10 22:36:00 Author: Unknown User |
If she played LBP on her own with regularity this would sound like a better idea, but as it stands you might be better of going on a nice date and just asking her if she'd like to make your relationship "official" - because if she's not into LBP specifically then it may be a lot of pressure to play the level together with that question at the end. Then if LBP becomes an activity you do together, you could make a level for her, which would be rather sweet. | 2012-11-10 23:07:00 Author: Pookachoo Posts: 838 |

Actually this is what I'm planning EDIT: I still need help with this if anyone is willing to help me out, it can be a short level. It's basically to give the message. | 2012-11-10 23:35:00 Author: Unknown User |
Ehhh. I'm always happy to help guide people when creating contraptions or whatever but I don't actively do personal-visits unless it's something really complex, I couldn't explain through text. I'm not going to build your level for you, but if there's something you have in mind that you're not sure how to tackle, I'd happily cover it for you. | 2012-11-13 09:42:00 Author: Ostler5000 Posts: 1017 |

If it's not too much trouble I could use some help for the ending part, I kind of wanted to make something like with sackbots in the background with hearts for eyes and then maybe make the words "Will you be my girlfriend" fall down and hang on the screen. Do you think you could help me with that? | 2012-11-13 18:13:00 Author: Unknown User |
That seems straightforward enough. For the Sackbots, I assume you already know how to do all that stuff. It's just decorations on a Sackbot costume. There's nothing to explain there, really. For the hanging text, however. (I love that idea. Seems very LBP1-ish. Retro.) I'd set up your text beforehand, using whatever custom or borrowed font you want to use. Get it all looking neat and stuff. Then, create a long stretch of White Matter. (Or any other material, with an Anti-Grav Tweaker set to 100% dampening on it.) Make sure that White Matter is a good distance from view. Say... 1 and a half times the screen. Attach Strings from the top of each letter, to the White Matter above. Keep the Strings as vertical as you can. You may, however, need to play around with exactly where the Strings attach to on the letter, so that they hang nearly the right way up. Some may slant a little, but to be honest, I think that's cute and I wouldn't fight it too much. Always, I mean always build in pause, then unpause to test stuff. Then undo. This will make it much easier for building absolutely anything, and the sooner you get into this habit, the better. Unpause, and see how your letters hang. Undo and edit as nessecary. Repeat until you're happy with how they sit. Once that's done, you must absolutely not adjust the Strings length. Next up, drag all your letters upwards so that they sit just below the object they are hanging from. Create another strip of material below the letters. This time, Place a Timer and a Destroyer on it. Unpause for a moment, and watch the letters sit on the lower White Matter, then fall to the players level. You can now undo, and adjust the position of the letters until they fall in a nice manner than makes them swing a little, and bounce off each other. You may need to unpause, undo and move a few times until you're happy with how they land, and to ensure they don't get stuck on top of each other or whatever. Once they fall correctly, undo for the last time, and replace the Timer with a Player Sensor on the area where you want to pop the question. That should be all there is to it. | 2012-11-13 23:09:00 Author: Ostler5000 Posts: 1017 |
Alright, thank you very much for the info, I'll try that out. | 2012-11-13 23:41:00 Author: Unknown User |
One more question, how could I make fireworks? | 2012-11-14 17:04:00 Author: Unknown User |
Fireworks shouldn't be too difficult, but this might be a bit text heavy. I'll try to keep things simple to understand, because I don't know exactly how well you know logic. Nice choice to include Fireworks, by the way. Females are simple creatures, and the pretty appearance of a Firework is sure to bewilder one for hours. Much like most shiny objects do. Start out by creating your firework object. I'm going to make my test one out of cardboard, and sticker it accordingly. Place a Microchip on your Firework. Inside the MC, we'll create a Basic Mover, with an upwards speed of say... 9. (Feel free to disagree and choose your own value. It won't effect the rest of this post.) 100% strength and 'Local Space' ticked. Place a Gyroscope, upside down. Set it's strength to 50% and speed to... We'll say 20. If you unpause, the rocket will fly upwards and slowly arc downwards. If you like, you can remove the Gyroscope, but I think it adds a nice curvature to the Fireworks path. Next up, we place a Timer. The Timers value will depend on how far you want your Firework to fly for before detonating. I'll leave that up to you. Wire the Timer into a Destroyer and an Emitter. Set the Destroyer to 'Include Rigid Connections' and the Emitter to; Ignore Parent Velocity: Yes Input: Emit Once Lifetime: 5 Max Emitted: 1 Emitted At Once: 1 Appear Effect: Expand Try placing some Sound Effects on, using the 'Play on Creation' and 'Play on Destruction' options. If you have the Muppets DLC pack, there are 2 perfect Firework sound effects in there. Otherwise, some explosions from the 'Destruction' category and the 'Rocket' sound from the 'Launchers' category will work nicely. Leave your Firework for now. Next up we create your explosion effect. This bit is a little more Logic-heavy, and I did need to fiddle about a bit to get this looking just right, so try and follow my measurements and values exactly. There's little room for tweaking with the explosion. Start by using some Hologram or Sticker Panel and creating a small Square. (Sticker Panel looks nicer, but Hologram will work just the same. Again, place a Microchip. I have included a picture for reference. I'll talk you through the picture as we go, referencing the colours. Inside, we place a Battery, wired into a Sequencer. I've coloured mine yellow. Copy the Red and Green Batteries as you see them in the image. And the Destroyer. Set it to destroy effect 'Shrink'. 'Rigid Connections' is irrelevant. http://ic.lbp.me/img/ft/32cf01a60dfcd1875297c9a8fe56f092ef2a4e92.jpg The Green Mover needs to be set to an upwards value of 2.0. Tick 'Local Space'. (The fact that the Mover is slanted is important, but I'll come back to that later.) Strength should be 100% accel and decel. Input type 'On' The Green Battery should be wired into a Timer. Settings as follows; Target Time: 1.0 Current Time: 0 Input: On/Off or Forwards/Backwards. Whatever. Then plug that Timer into another Mover. Settings as follows: Left/Right: 0 Up/Down: -3.0 (Negative. We need it to go down. I don't know how much you know about Logic. I sincerely hope I don't come across as patronising.) Local Space: No. Strength - Accel: 50% Strength - Decel: 20% Input: Strength Scale. If you unpause, what you should have is a piece of hologram that flies outward in a direction (Based on the green Mover.) then slowly moves down. Undo so we get the Hologram back where it was. Next up, wire that Green Battery into a Counter. Settings as follows; Target Count: 1 Current Count: 0 Invert Output: Yes Then wire that Counter into a Timer. Target Count: 3 Current Count: 3 Input: Forwards/Backwards Place a Gyroscope down, so that your Sparkle orientates itself the right way up. (It might look funny, otherwise. Not yet, but later on, anyways.) That's the heavy logic bit done and out of the way. Next up, Hover the cursor over the Hologram and press Square. The 'On' settings should be max brightness and whatnot. The 'Off' settings should be 0. The settings available will vary on whether you use Sticker Panel or Hologram. Set the Input to 'Dimmer'. Lastly, go into your Stickers and find a nice Star or Twinkle sticker to use. Try looking in 'Decorative' and 'Scenic'. You may also want to modify the colour of your Holo/StickerPanel. Remember, white stickers change colour when the Hologram they are on has it's colour changed. If the sticker already has colour, it will change to, but less-so. If you un-pause, your sparkle will shoot off in a direction, then begin to fall. Then it will fade and disappear. Next up, copy your Sparkle a few times. Remember that Green Mover? Yeah, well now you need to rotate it on each of your Sparkles. If you create 8 Sparkles and rotate the Mover by 45 degrees each time, you get a little octagon of sparkles. Once you've got the Sparkles set up, move them all on top of each other. Then Capture them, and put them in the Fireworks Emitter. That's it. Nice work if you followed this all the way through with no hiccups. Want to try something a bit more advanced? Try modifying the Upwards value of the Green Mover and use different angles to create unique shapes, like a heart or a star. The way I have set up the Firework, it should just launch and explode the moment you unpause/play the level. To use it effectively in a level, place it inside Emitter(s) and trigger those as you see fit. Huh. This is a lot wordier than expected. I should get paid for this crap. Or at least have my own fanclub. Mmm. Fangirls. Yeah. EDIT- I've just thought, if you're planning on having a long firework display in the background for an extended period of time, you can randomise how long it takes for Fireworks to detonate. (If you fire the same firework repeatedly, and it explodes in the same place time and time again, it becomes pretty noticable that it's the same firework being emitted in the same place repeatedly.) If you'd like me to explain how to achieve some randomisation, I'll happily cover that too. | 2012-11-14 21:26:00 Author: Ostler5000 Posts: 1017 |
