Los Alamos

"I am become death. A destroyer of worlds." Los Alamos. Or how Sackboy started the cold war.

I have always been fascinated with atomic bombs and this is something I have been working on since the beta. The jist of this level is that Sackboy wanders onto the bomb test site and J Robert Oppenheimer uses him as the reactor material in the trinity test back in 1945, which was the first atomic bomb test. I have put so much of my time on this level, and enjoyed every minute of it. This is by far my most ambitious level ever, thanks to the great tools on lbp vita.

I will of course do feedback for feedback for anyone, just tell me the level you want me to play.

Thanks to MrObycyek for beta testing this for me last night, and giving me the green light to publish.

The b&w cutscenes that book-end this level really help set it apart. I particularily enjoyed the respectful way you presented historical figures with the crazy eyes and bad hair, lol. Such a unique setup for a platformer!

The 2 distinct looking platforming sections were visually striking with solid/satisfying gameplay. The touch sections fit well and the feature wasn't over-used.

Really enjoyed playing this one, well done!

I don't know what to tell you man. This level is like coming home. Everything I wanted a Vita for can be summed up right here in this level. I'm so happy.

I really don't know how you come up with all the layer switching, springing, jumping, spikey, button pushing, swingy-ness or how you make it all flow together. It's fun and rewarding but challenging at the same time. It's a fun, relaxed romp through the level but if you want to ace it it's HARD. It's always really nice how you can just play the level to your own standards and it seems to respond with an appropriate degree of awesomeness. You really have a talent for this stuff.

The cutscenes are epic, the acting is epic, the finale is epic... You get the idea. It was really nice to see you making use of the cinematics, and you did a great job of it. That adds quite a bit to the overall experience of your level in my opinion. The transition from one area to another is well done and very visually pleasing, and the story of how sackboy.... well "becomes involved"... is a great concept. haha I really liked that. (don't want to give away spoilers!)

Ok I'm supposed to find things that were broken now. Dagnabbit VJ, you always make this part so tough. Ehm. Well there's the... no, that was good. Ah! But the..... no, no I liked that too. AGH.

Oh wait wait, I found one! Ok, in the second section there are some touch panels that you have to activate so that you can walk in front and on top of. The 'F' and 'R' is hard to make out as a white sticker on the glowing green touch material, and I had a hard time seeing what they were - I guessed though. There is also a floating sticker panel that shows you to touch the rear touch screen, but it's a black sticker and is kind of in the shadows and is also very hard to see. So, I'd say adjust the touch material to a little tiny bit darker (or change it to blue or something) and change that other sticker to white. You can also tweak the sticker panel to make it match your materials as well.

And that's it! I gave you 5 billion stars and 47 hearts and a wahoo! in game (which is equivalent to a dozen yays). Killer job VJ, loved it.

@ Doggy- Eager to hear what you think about it bro!

@ nys - Tell me what you think man.

@ biorogue - lol. Wish you had a vita bro!!

@ NightAngel - Wish you could play it too bud!! How is Space Temples Vita coming along?

@ Himoks - Thanks buddy!! I hope you are hard at work on something in create mode. I loved your psp levels!!

@ Yugnar - Thanks buddy! You and I played this a couple weeks ago, and It has changed alot since then. Glad it was for the better. Don't worry about a leaving a review. The fact you played it and like it is a generous plenty. Thanks dude!!

@ Fullofwin - Thanks so much for your review. Glad you liked the bookends in black and white. I always though that it looked classy, and especially since the level takes place in 1945, it seemed appropriate. Glad you liked it man!!

@ Taffey - Wow, what a great review man. I always love your reviews, they are always the best. Man, I am so glad you liked it. I worked real hard on it, and I am glad it shows. When someone as creative as you likes my level, I know I did something right.

Thanks for the constructive criticisms as well. They mean just as much as the praises. I will go and fix the things you mentioned. I think I need a better camera angle during that touch section as well. Changing the sticker material colors, and maybe tweaking the colors of my touch materials is a great idea too. Back to create mode I go!

Thanks so much for this review bud.

It made my day!!

Man I almost forgot I had F4F thread!

Review: Hmm... I guessthe story is about destroing the LBP? Right? If isn't so, I totally misunderstood
Detail are great as usually! It was great to see that you "fixed" your Beta level and added a funny (I guess it's funny?) story and made it much longer! I love the atmosphere of the level! VJ style of the level and I wich that I could make cinema... And I don't get the logic of sequence (as I remeber the name)

I guess I rated it with 5 golden stars... that means <3 and !YEAH!

There is so much here to love. You have a great setup with a classic black and white sci-fi film, and then it cuts to the meat of the game where the player is treated to an excellent playing level. You introduced some new techniques with the touch screen that requires the player to react quickly but doesn't feel gimmicky. The design and material choice was very nice looking and up there with some of your best. But the ending is the thing that pulls it all together and makes everything work. It was hilarious and awesome!

Great job with all the cinematic elements. I'm looking forward to what you come up with next.

Jeje, actually Sackboy was used as the reactor material for a nuclear bomb, not exactly for destroying LBP but... That was a good theory

Hey VJ!
I remember you, and your impressive levels, from my brief stint with LBP PSP.
Which means... I will be playing this level sometime soon and leaving some feed back.
I'll probably try and finish up my level before the end of the night (getting SOOO close) and then play yours and respond to it.

Just played this and I have one word for it. Oh wait... can I use that word here? Ummm... oh rats, lemme try another!

INTENSE!!!

First time through I sat my Vita down to eat once I got to the dark area. For whatever reason, when I picked it back up I was logged off and had quit LBP!!! NOOOOOoooo So I had to start over, but really other than dying quite a few times I really enjoyed that first bunch of stuff and those spikes. Spikes and more spikes. Spikes here and there. Spikes where I wanted to sit down. Spikes where I just want to rest!! SPIKES!!!

Really well done! I especially loved the long grabinator tosses avoiding those darn SPIKES. So colorful and charming to die like that. Yessir.. can't think of a better way to die out in the sunshine.

Then came the darkness... oh no, not the darkness! I can't speak of the darkness. Things down there were unpleasant and would squish you if you were not careful.. oh wait, I mentioned something. No no!! Mustn't speak of the dark. Dark is bad... no wait.. dark was good. Yes!! Nice dark!! Dark was sooooothing. Except for bombs and bouncing. Why must I bounce? Make the bouncing stop! PLEASE!! MAKE IT STOP!!

Ummm... They tell me I have to go now.

Lovely level.. do play it.

(Awesome job!! Keep up the great work!)

Hi !
Great platformer ! The environment looks really nice with all this spikes everywhere ! The colors you used fit great together ! In this level, we have to be very fast if we don't wanna fall into the spikes ! The "dark" world has a pretty good atmosphere. I enjoyed it !

Hey VJ there buddy, I highly doubt you remember me from my brief stint with LBP PSP, but I am really glad to see that you made the switch from PSP to PSV, seeing as how I consider you to be fantastic creator. Your platformers all feel great, and all have suburb bubble placement.

That being said, this one, Los Alamos, is also fantastic! The level looks fantastic through the use of it's very focused color scheme, and the switch half way thru keeps things visually interesting.

I also like the duel nature of the gameplay, on one side you are swinging around like mad, on the other you're more grounded, even taking a nice dip in the water

I always try to look for things that need improvement in levels, ESPECIALLY the amazing ones like yours.
It's not that I want something to be wrong, it's just I want to help in anyway possible what so ever.

So, despite the fact that your level is amazing, I looked hard for things that could possibly be improved.

I came up with two things, one of which is probably just a matter of your personal preferences which I can understand completely.

The minor thing is : the triangular formations of bubbles. They appear to be frozen in gravity until you hit one of them. Usually if you hit one we, you hit all three, but that's not always the case. At one point in the level I got one of them, only to have the other two slide down off of a cliff. Maybe you really want them to be affected gravity as soon as one is gone, but if not, then might I suggest making all three of them have antigravity switches on them?
Like I said. Very minor. Matter of tastes really.

The other thing though, while it still may be a matter of taste, I think is a little more important.
(I tried to upload a picture of it, but I currently don't have a working computer, and my tablet doesn't seem to want to upload the picture I took...)

But OK, back to the thing.
Your levels all have great bubble placement, and bubble chains.
This level has great great chains too.
But I feel like there is one place that stands in stark contrast to your goal of having a great (score competitive) level.
In the orange section, where there's a place for sack boy to stand on that you pull down, and then launch up to grab a spinning wheel that has score bubbles all around it.

The thing is, the score bubbles spin WITH the wheel.
I feel like this is a problem because if someone is trying for the highest score (possible) then they might be tempted to stand there on the launch pad and launch up and down trying to get each and every score bubble on that wheel, something that is not fun at all, and not conducive to fluid gameplay.
Perhaps if you froze them all in place so you could easily collect them all, it'd be better. (Or if you want to keep them moving, you can make them spin the opposite direction, making collecting them even faster.)

Just a suggestion

And my level is not done yet, but if you want to try it out and give me some feed back, that'd be nice.
I only have one published currently under my psn name LukeCF.
You can either PM me, or I have a thread in the ideas and projects section of the vita forums.

Well, when I tried this level I got all these bubbles by walking to the left on the top of the wheel ! This is the way to get them all ( with a chain ) So, I don't think it really needs to be changed

Hmmm, I didn't even think of that. I guess the wheel is really okay then... hmm. Darn, there goes my only real feed back. XD

Oh and Gwaeron, I left feed back for your Pix's Rise level, but you never responded to it.
You might want to go take a look at your thread buddy.

Thanks!!

I was reading a thread today and noticed something different on the level badge in my signature. I was like, why does it have that ribbon on it?

Shocked!!

Yeah, this level is four months old. I think that is what surprised me the most.

Very happy Dedman got one too.
