Help making a tunnel

Archive: 13 posts

Alright, I'm sure I am overlooking something very easy here, but I am trying to make a tunnel of sorts. For the purpose of making the easiest to explain example, I'll just throw out a simple version.

If you wanted to make a cube using shapes and materials from your goodies bag and place it in the middle of your track and want an arch shape cut out of it, creating a tunnel, how would you go about that? Is it even possible. I messed around with it for a while and couldnt figure it out. It's not like LBP editing where I can just put up a big cube and use the arch shape to erase the center of it. Any adjustments I've tried to make shrink or enlarge the original object. Hopefully I worded that somewhat clearly, but in the end, at the simplest of forms, I want a cube with a perfect arch tunnel going through it.

I don't know, maybe it wont work because of camera issues, but I would like to use something like this in a battle arena. Any thoughts?

I haven't tried it myself yet but the tutorials say you just click edit shape and choose (in your case a circle) whatever shape you want. Then make it as big and long as you need and place it where you want to cut out the hole. Then just hit the delete/cut button and it should be gone. Like I said though I haven't tried it myself and the tutorials leave out a lot of needed info.2012-11-09 17:22:00

All you do is draw a rectangle or whatever after that you click edit shape and pick what ever shape you want your tunnel to be say a circle and there you go u delete and you have a tunnel (:2012-11-10 03:15:00

It doesn't work. I've tried it also. When you try to cut a shape out of an existing shape. It makes the delete sound but nothing happens.

1. Draw a shape that you want to act as the external walls of the tunnel
2. Press circle until you are back to the "choose shape" menu on the popit screen
3. Select new shape (most common being circle)
4. Return to original shape and scale the new shape to the correct size you want the hole to be
5. press triangle
6. move cutting shape away and you should see a hole there!
7. close popit
8. celebrate by eating cookies and dancing an irish jig

This is ok if you just want to make a tunnel through a piece of exsisting material, but is 100% impractical in making a tunnel through the Terrain. First you'd have to clear the Terrain on both sides of your road, because if you try to place a tunnel made out of hollowed out material right into the ground, it won't work.

Then, since the ground coming in and out of the tunnel is at an angle, you have to angle several pieces of your tunneled out material to compensate for the entrance and exit.

You could do it if you spent an hour to do it. The point is that MNR had a perfect tunnel system. You press 1 button and your tunnel exsists. Why they took this out is mind boggling and stupid.

MM. Made a huge mistake letting these idiots make this game. There are a ton less objects. No more auto populate. The editor is a joke. I cant make a piece more than a few squares long. I had to group together 12 pieces to create a tunnel. Stupid.

You do realize that LBPK is developed by the same studio and same team as MNR right? I agree with you, though. It seems they did take a few steps back as well as forward. A lot of the tools that made MNR accessible are gone (quick button to stick objects to ground, edit along track tools, tunnels, etc). The whole system is a lot clunkier. I am glad that terrible autopopulate function is gone, though. It produced so many insipid tracks in MNR.2012-11-20 15:32:00

There is sadly some truth in what you say. I couldnt believe it when I tried to increase the thickness of a piece and it stopped after just a few layers. And you are also right about lining up tunnel entrances and exits. It basically means you need them to be absolutely level and square otherwise its gonna be very hard to line this stuff up.

you could always make the tunnel out of a very small scale piece of material with a max thickness, then when you scale it up afterwards you will get a very long tunnel that tightly hugs the side of the road.2012-11-22 16:06:00

How do you get materials to be different thicknesses? I made a large sqaure that I want to hollow out to be a small building. All I need to do is make a smaller square and go in from the front and cut away. But I can't figure out how to change the thickness on just the brush! When I try to alter it, it changes the original object as well. Or if I try to lower my brush so I don't chop the roof off, then the original square changes elevation as well. How do you move/alter the bush independant of the object you're trying to edit?2013-01-02 17:32:00

You can't, not like that. Creating in LBPK is like LBP, you draw a shape that's one layer. Except LBPK lets you change the thickness of that layer, and change the shape's orientation and position in 3 dimensions. To get what you want, you need to make one hollow shape, then use a separate thin shape to fill in the back of the hole.2013-01-02 23:25:00

I have a method for creating tunnels, it works great in "SPORE, Galactic Adventures", which I've used a lot. Though I haven't tried it yet and it MAY cause lag, I dunno. It involves "Collected Objects", though I think only the "rocks set" will work; will have to find out!2013-01-03 02:31:00
