South Park Season 16 Discussion

Archive: 16 posts

Since blogs are down (well, nobody even pays attention to the blogs so that doesn't matter), I will be starting a discussion thread on how South Park did this year.

In my personal opinion, South Park did a lot better this year than the last year and the year before. In fact, it's the best season in my opinion, but that's because I only remember what I seen this year. If South Park is going downhill, Season 16 is a non-example of how bad South Park is doing today. However, I did see a few problems. In one episode, they're mutilizing on this UPS man, and he keeps getting attacked. Nobody even wants to listen to him, and before he died, nobody knew the truth. There are other problems, but I can't list them all.

To all South Park fans, how was Season 16?

nowhere near as good as the prime south park seasons. i think since around season 13 - 14 they have been getting worse and worse with only a few stand out episodes and very few and far between with the jokes in other episodes.2012-11-10 21:55:00

What do you mean by "prime south park seasons"?

I don't think Season 16 was all that perfect either. I mean, there are some parts that don't seem great, but I have three examples of what I didn't like. The fourth episode was the worst of the season, but that's just because of the public easter egg hunt at the end of the episode.

Three examples of what I didn't like:

1. Cartman Finds Love - the episode is fine. I'm not appalled at the use of stereotypes in the episode or Cartman's manipulative techniques, but when did they start adding Wendy to the cheerleading squad? I mean, it shouldn't be a problem because nobody even cares about the girls, and it's just a cartoon, but Wendy wasn't on the cheerleading squad back in the episode the cheerleaders were introduced. I don't think cheerleading is something available in Elementary (same with football). The cheerleaders were featured only twice before this episode, and Wendy wasn't on the squad. I can assume that Wendy is no longer the girl who knows what's right and what's wrong anymore. She's now like the other girls. I know it's up to the creators to decide, but they usually forget, and they make changes.

2. Insecurity - I feel bad for the UPS guy. This one seems to be upsetting because the adults picked up framing evidence and blamed the UPS guy for it. They beaten him up and destroyed his truck. He tries to get help, and nobody believes him. People are looking at him as the bad guy until his death. They finally found the truth, but only after the UPS guy was dead.

3. A Scause for Applause - Once again, a new character is killed in the same episode introduced. I know it's a cartoon, but the way how they killed the guy who owns the bracelet factory was horrible. It's torture. And, he was in only one episode. Not every character who was seen in only one episode should be liked. I think this episode, and Insecurity, were the two episodes with upsetting scenes.

These three episodes are not the worst of the season, but they are the only examples I like to show.

I think it's just you. I have seen no difference in quality with this show as long as I've been watching it.

Going Native and Sarcastiball have been my favorites this season.

i dont think its me, because i still find the old episodes laugh out loud funny, whereas these last two or three seasons have made me chuckle once or twice per episode rather than rolling laughter from the old ones.

and by prime i mean the period of their best work.

Obama Wins was excellent.

Yeah! I initially predicted that it's going to be about the election, but then I changed my mind and predicted that it's going to be on Disney's acquisition on Star Wars. Either way, I was correct.

By the way, on the day after the episode, I ate at Red Lobster. Too bad they didn't feature the biscuits in the episode, but I did get some biscuits. They're so delicious.

My favorite is still Cash for Gold, including Stan's phone call to the shopping network.

I'll give you a six layer burrito for it.

A six layer burrito? They don't even make a six layer burrito.

So you claim it's not just you, yet are using yourself as an example.

...What?

lol, nope
my whole point is that my tastes havent changed, therefore the types of jokes that show is making have changed.
is it really that hard to understand?

Both of you are right. South Park tries to be funny, while the show changes, but not in humor. Back in S14, the 4th graders were 9. In S15, they turned 10. Chef was a character back in Season 1. Now he's gone. So it doesn't change in humor, but it changes.
