Quad-pedal Mech. how do I make it?
Archive: 10 posts
Hello Im trying to build a 4 legged mech but I cant figure out how. I tried using the piston method but the feet slip and make it walk slower I made bold legs but Ihave no idea how to make them move. Any Ideas? Thanks =D | 2012-11-08 19:10:00 Author: XxHAMADEHxX Posts: 113 |
Can I assume there are two legs on one layer of the playfield and two legs on another? Well without piston's I recommend to use four large whee;s (probably in a thin layer) to attach to the body/torso of the mech, attach motor bolts to the center of the wheels and make sure the opposite corners are reverse in rotation. Now attach your desired legs (I recommend keeping the shape the same for each leg), to an off-skew point on the wheel and make sure the opposite corners are attached at the reverse off-skew point on the wheel. In case you have not gathered, already this will be a lot easier if you use the grid function in the start menu). Check out these pictures of this mechanism I made for reference (exploding cake launcher sold separately). https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-WHGoTbzYAeo/UJweI8xQRII/AAAAAAAAADA/_VW8lZgTqfY/s640/A+Photo_1.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-e9F3BbZHRpk/UJweI7rklqI/AAAAAAAAADI/2zyPcJVTue0/s640/A+Photo_2.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-V2U1kOwKgcM/UJweI6BFX0I/AAAAAAAAADE/kHVu71oowxc/s640/A+Photo_3.jpg | 2012-11-08 21:05:00 Author: WyomingMyst Posts: 101 |
Thanks for the response my friend. I tried your idea(small modification) but the feet still slip when they walk. You can try drving it here http://lbp.me/v/gg3yqx | 2012-11-09 17:18:00 Author: XxHAMADEHxX Posts: 113 |
I have not taken a look yet but also try using Gyro's to keep the legs in a up right position. | 2012-11-09 22:01:00 Author: WyomingMyst Posts: 101 |

I tried to test it for ya, but you didn't include any way to get up to the controllinator. There's no way to drive it. Edit the level and include a stairs or jetpack. Looking good so far though. | 2012-11-11 08:46:00 Author: Chicago51 Posts: 258 |

Hey mate check this out :http://lbp.me/v/6g1k-t it's my OLD level mech spider walker: a very non pc shooter. This might inspire you its all done with wobble bolts attached to a controlinator, the bolts are set to speed scale. Im not saying that this is the best way to do it, but works pretty darn well (yet to see a better quad mech) ((darn sorry, that sounds sssooooo darn conceited, don't mean it to be Beware, this took me FOREVER to get the movement right, it's a case of trail and error getti g the bolts to rotate the right amount, so you have to be aware this is no quick project! Add me if you need help (shade_seeker) | 2012-11-13 13:32:00 Author: Shade_seeker Posts: 328 |
