Moving Platform Problem

Archive: 4 posts

I'm having a problem with emitted platforms. The emitters work fine. My problem is this. The platforms have a Mover placed on them, so they move up or down at a certain pace. This is exactly what I want, however; when I jump onto them or bump them, they slide a little out of position. It's enough to be frustrating and to throw the player off track and not able to make the next jump they need to make.

My platform has a gyroscope on it so it's always facing up, an anti-gravity tweaker with the dampening set to 99, and a material tweaker to make it sticky on the off-chance that worked. Sadly it did not. What can I do to make sure this moving platform remains firmly on track without deviating?

I've had this problem. How much does it offset? Because, no matter how hard I've tried, it will always offset itself by a very tiny (not noticeable to the naked eye) amount.

In my current level, I've avoided using movers on solid platforms because it was causing endless problems. I've resorted to other methods, but these won't help in your case, I'm sure of it.

But... I have another few options for you to try:

1) Go retro - use pistons!
2) Use a follower - put the tag in the distance and get the object to move to that tag, don't allow up/down
3) Instead, put the movement logic on an invisible holo/sticker panel and have the solid platform follow that with 100 speed and 100% accel/decel.

Hope this helps!

Try adjusting acceleration to 100% for your up and down movers (or your advanced mover if you are using that). Also make sure Local Space is checked. I just tried that in a simulation with this configuration on my object and it seems to work.

The reason why the object can shift out of position is that when acceleration is set to anything less than 100%, the mover does not reach it's full power instantly, which leaves the object to be susceptible to the kinetic energy from outside forces, such as your sackperson running on to it.

Thank you both for the help. =3 From this, I was able to use a tag on a hologram and a mover on that, and then I set a follower on my object that I wanted to move. I wasn't able to force it out of position by colliding on it or running on top of it. Thank y'all so much for the help.2012-11-10 11:42:00
