GraVitas

Archive: 6 posts

GraVitas will be a level in which you rotate the Vita in order to shift gravity in the level. Gravity will always be oriented downward towards the floor of wherever you actually are in real life.

I got the idea after playing a Gravity Rush level that only had low gravity. This will be my attempt to do better. Right now it's still far from completion, but the actual mechanics of the level are quite fun. The storyline is a science fiction sort of thing, and the gameplay should include fighting enemies, some unique gravity shifting platforming, and hopefully a boss.

I'm hoping that posting this here will help keep me more focused on my level.

Good Luck! I hope you finish this because the tilting seems like a nice gameplay mechanic.2012-11-10 03:33:00

I've already got it working, but I think it could use some fine tuning. The game doesn't account for any friction when your sackbot walks on walls, so you have to manually implement jumping and moving on walls.

I did it with the roll sensor on the controllinator. Roll X and Roll Y actually correspond to the cosine and sine of an angle. Basically, this means that if you connect a joystick rotator to these inputs, movement will correspond exactly the angle the vita is at.

This is the basic logic I am using. There are two tags connected to the roll x and y. The bottom microchip is the logic for everything around the player, you see it falls at a horizontal and vertical speed determined by the roll of the vita. The player is connected to a joystick rotator, and then always falls down with a mover set to local space.

Is the level going to be platforming based? Action based? Are for now are you mainly working on the mechanics before you form an idea for the level itself?2012-12-30 19:40:00
