For those of you who beat the story mode...

Archive: 14 posts

Overall what do you think of it? I was kind of disappointed by how few levels there were, not to mention the boss was way too easy.

Also the track design in a lot of levels is so plain. For example, most of the Monster Islands tracks. I also didn't like how it unlocks an exact copy of each level but with VS tagged on at the end. It makes every planet cluttered.

I don't mean to be all negative, those were just my initial impressions after beating everything. I'm not sure what I was expecting when going into this game but I feel like it could've been improved/polished a bit more. I just felt underwhelmed after finishing the last planet. That's definitely not how I felt with LBP1, 2, and Vita. Hope it grows on me.

Did you star every level and get all collectibles already?

I'm only worried if you cleared the game in a few hours and have no reason to go back in and do any of the races twice. Since the beginning of the franchise the LBP games have been criticized for their very brief story modes. They've been saved by replayability... and of course, create mode. But where Karting has already gotten some bad pre-release criticism for its cumbersome create mode, if the story mode is also lacking...

I went to buy this on PSN before bed last night but was put off by the $60 price tag. If word of mouth comes down to "create mode sucks" and "story mode is four hours with zero replayability" it's going to be even harder to spend that much. It could kill sales and send the price of the game way down in a hurry. Good news for consumers who waited. Bad for those who bought day one or pre-ordered. Bad for Sony, bad for United Front Games. Bad for the increasingly diluted quality of the LBP brand.

From a sales viewpoint I stated a few days ago that I expect this game to make back its cost of development. Here's hoping it at least does that...

No offense, but how has the brand already been diluted? I can understand the mixed reception to Karting doing that, but the Vita entry was very well-received.

Ok I've been playing a bit more collecting prize bubbles, and the levels are really growing on me. Not to mention the music is outstanding. I'll wait until I've 100% done everything before reviewing this game.2012-11-08 08:19:00

I actually liked a lot of the story mode levels. There are a few levels that fell flat, but overall I thought many of the tracks were really charming. I also really liked having to explore each level and find the prize bubbles. I am at 98% of collecting everything and it ended up taking me about 9 hours. I went slow and enjoyed it, though.2012-11-10 15:07:00

I can't finish the story mode because of an IMPOSSIBLE level, so I can't reply to this thread. 2012-11-11 01:37:00

Have you tried changing the difficulty?

IMO, the boss could have had a few extra things on it to make it last a bit longer, and the ending had a lot more potential in my opinion. It would have been so wonderful to see sack-things and the Hoard re-building parts of Craftworld, and then living happily ever after. Well, in my opinion at least. (I said that a lot, but yeah.)

The story levels themselves were actually quite charming, and I enjoyed them quite a bit.
(Vernon can do get bent for all I care. I just can't stand him. >:L )

Vernon is the nerdy turtle, right? Yeah IDK what it is, but his voice and looks annoy me as well. He seems so childish...

Agreed about the ending. The whole story could have been a little more deep(like LBP Vita) but whatever, at least it was somewhat creative.

No no no, Ray was the turtle, and I liked him.
Vernon is the lab rat.

Really, at least not make him constantly on his back; it just looks awkward. xS

And the moment where you defeat the boss, and one of the Hoard drive up next to you and celebrate, that was adorable! I was hoping they'd go off of that for an ending with so much happiness and wonder and feels and ARJIWEFHNWG

Lol, I thought the Eve's Assylum's boss was FAR more challenging than the final boss. It took me 1 try to beat the final boss, but about 10 for Eve's one. Anyway, I have two comments for the Story Mode:

1) I didn't love the Creator Curators. The queen was OK, but the rat, the turtle, that weird plant from Eve's Assylum, and that ABSOLUTELY HORRID sellsman, were absolutely horrible. I liked Sirius Oculus, though. FEEL THE FUNK!

2) The tracks were awesome. I though I had seen it all in the BETA. But I must tell you Story Mode's track are far superior to about every community level that was published in the BETA. If you see those tracks as a Creator, you can't help but marble at the beauty of the design, all the objects they created as decorations, etc. Maybe some aren't as epic as tracks from other racing games, but I can assure you those designers (from other karting games) would be absolutely lost in LBPK's Create mode.

As a more personal comment, I am frustrated. Because every great idea I think I've had for a miningame, track or arena seems to be already in Story Mode. Aghhh, needed to post it somewhere

I've now beat story mode, "starred" them and collected all items. All-in-all its taken me about a day and a half. (shortest 100% so far in a lbp game) however, the replayability of the game is still there. This game is basically sony's version of Mariokart, right down to the balancing system. However, with create mode you have potentially unlimited tracks to play, which Mariokart cannot do.

I did worry that the game would be unplayable, with their being more tracks published than players online at any given time, however the Dive In function really holds it own in LBPK. I'm not a huge kart racing gamer, but I'll still come to LBPK when i want some lighthearted fun, or i want to play with my younger brother (since the game is as enjoyable to play with a new gamer as a veteran gamer)

I wouldn't reccomend this game if you're not interested in racing and are interested in creating, because as far as I can see the focus of the game is racing, and the creation of new levels is more the added feature to give mariokart some competition. (ofc, for some reason they didn't think to publish the game to a portable device like the vita... so mariokart will still be the better game you can just quickly pick up and put down wherever you are.)
