More IGN [recalcitrancy]!

Archive: 15 posts

I am SO tired of IGN posting blatant crap for reviews. They give Halo4 a freakin 9.2/10 and give both Medal of Honor AND LBPKarting a 5.0?!?!? This is outrageous!

I listened to the review for LBP Karting and he didn't even PLAY the game. He made broad generalizations, claiming that this was a step back from Modnation Racers and that it's too LittleBigPlanetfied... IT'S A LITTLEBIGPLANET GAME!

Also, he only rates the multiplayer based on the online mode and ranking ability. This game is not about ranking up and getting better than other players. There's the option to be competitive, but it's a creative game allowing more tools and options for creativity then the Modnation Racer game at all! Autopopulate is missing and he thinks this makes it less accessible. I'm sorry, but a cheat button doesn't make a game more accessible.

As for Medal of Honor.. i played 1 hour of that game (3 missions in single player) and i LOVED it! I never looked at the reviews and was SHOCKED when i saw the reviews. I thought MoH was the best war shooter I have ever played.

Long story short... [I frown on your shenanigans]@ ign... [I find your opinions mildly objectionable]@* greg miller.. and [begone with you]%# game reviews. The reviews now are about as useful to a consumer as the concept art of the game before it's released.................

Hell no. I need to like.. punch something. And there's nothing to punch but my roommate....hmm...well...NO! What am I thinking! Then I wouldn't be able to eat his Ramen noodles!

Alright...the rage has passed... but seriously...so absolutely and utterly done ever logging into IGN ever again. I'll base ratings off of how I felt the games were when I played them in beta/alpha etc. I know for a fact LittleBigPlanet Karting had problems, but NOT the ones mentioned in this poorly thought out crap review.

I gotta say Nick, I don't disagree with you. In my opinion, you're spot on. Not much else I can add to that.

Alright...the rage has passed... Good to know. I helped you out with a few subtle edits in your original post. Just a heads up.

Then I wouldn't be able to eat his Ramen noodles!DO NOT RISK THE RAMEN. Good god man, have you considered the consequences??

Ok, this is probably not the best LBP game to date (thing I can't confirm yet), but a 5 is RIDICULOUS. I participated in the BETA, and just because Greg doesn't know a thing about LBP creating, and because he didn't saw all the amazingness (does that word exist?) he just can't say he isn't impressed with the creations of the community so far, and that the level editor has not got any future.

And that it is not fun? Why? Because he is comparing it at everything with ModNation Racers. MAN! THIS IS NOT MDR! This is a whole different game, and it is a freaking awesome and fun game. At least it is the only LBP game my friends consider "simple but fun enough" to be enjoyable. I myself would give it AT LEAST an 8, and I'm being evil with that grade.

It's got a 76 on Metacritic (at the time of typing), with IGN's score being the lowest, with most scores being about 70 or 80.

It's really sad that it rated so low because seeing a 5/10 will no doubt turn many people away I know that for about a minute after I saw the score, I thought about whether I wanted the game still or not, and then I realized that I had spent maybe 40 hours with the beta (which was in fact a beta, meaning that the game is much better now), and I would have scored the beta much, much higher than a 5 (ignoring the online connectivity issues when playing with others).

Seeing as the low score even made me reconsider for a second until I did a reality check, I am very upset at what IGN has done. I've read through the review and talked to Taffey a bit about it, and it just seems that Greg (the reviewer) was upset that the game is not enough like Modnation Racers, so he reviewed it terribly. He seems to touch on that point multiple times in the review, but to me, that doesn't justify the score at all. In the review he talks about how certain aspects of LBPK replaced things from Modnation, and how he liked Modnation More, but how in the world does that bring the score down to a 5? And I get the impression that he just didn't have time to mess with create mode, so he just wrote it up as being too difficult and that maybe some of the best creators could figure it out. Create mode, in my opinion, is the best thing about the game! So to write it off is to ignore what should be making the score high!

I understand that reviews are a reflection of someone's opinion, and I usually laugh when I hear about people throwing fits about reviews, but in this case I am honestly upset as well because I really think that IGN's review will cut down the user base of LBPK and for no good reason other than a reviewer that seems to love Modnation alot and just didn't have time to spend on playing LBPK as much as he needed to for an honest review.

Is there gonna be a demo of the game, do we know? Or maybe some point down the line, like they did with LBP2?2012-11-07 14:34:00

Yeah, something as wimpy as a five is not what I would have given it either. Oh well, can't win 'em all.
I just think that at least a seven would have been sensible, but a five is sort of harsh. I barely believed it when I heard it, and I had to be told multiple times, and when it was verified, it was pretty disappointing that they think that of the game.

You say he didn't play it, correct? If he has, then he has his reasons to give out his opinion, but if he hasn't, I don't even think he should have reviewed it in the first place. How are you supposed to do that? It's like hearing someone's name and calling them ugly because of it.

IGN isn't really appreciated for most of their reviews, so like the others said, I usually read the other reviews, which are much more reasonable for Karting than IGN's. I mean, the thing I don't like about it is that whenever IGN gives a game a bad score, the world goes NUTS, but when any other site reviews that same game and gives it a worse score if not as bad, nobody really cares. IGN seems to be what most people go by, but that's just the thing, I don't "go by" any reviews.

It makes complete sense, like poo said, to consider buying the game or not regarding the rating, but in contrast, it's when some people go by JUST IGN to decide what games they play that I think isn't that good. I mean, for instance, I know someone quite like that, one moment he'll see a game trailer and get super hyped about it, and when he sees the review, he shifts gears instantly and says it sucks Vlasic brand honey pickles. I tell him to lighten up a bit, that their opinions don't decide entirely what's good and what isn't, because if you just look at their reviews, especially IGN's, that'll just make your gaming less fun. Plus, if you want more opinions, there's plenty of other reviewers out there, and who knows? They may have liked the game just as much as you have. Er, the friend had.

It's really too bad that Greg didn't like this game, but I guess that's that. I just don't think it's fair that he just went and made his opinion without even playing it that much, I mean, don't knock it 'till you try it, I guess. He basically dipped his toe into the pool and spat in the clerk's face because it was too cold.

I am confident that he did play it. I think IGN takes their reviews seriously and I am sure they would not review a game without playing it, I just don't think that Greg gave create mode its fair share.

STRONG evidence that shows he probably didn't take this review as seriously as previous LBP's when it comes to create mode is that for every single other LBP review (and I believe he has reviewed all of them, LBP, LBP2, LBP PSP, LBP Vita), he created and published a level as part of the review process. On LBPK there is no Greg level (his PSN is GameOverGreggy).

I played Halo 4 yesterday. It was good. But not a 9/10 in my book. Maybe 8/10. It's just the same game with some bad antialising, antitrophic filtering with some call of duty perk systems in place and an xbox live menu system. It's fun to play... but it's NOT a masterpiece.

I played Medal of Honor Warfighter a few weeks back through PSPlus 1hour trial, and I loved it! It felt realistic the way bullets wizzed by me and the graphics were the best I've ever seen in a shooter! The car chase level was so cool, even my girlfriend was like..."omg that was awesome" and she hates when I play games. IGN gave it a 5 or 6...

I played LittleBigKarting Beta and I thought it had some flaws in its create mode that seemed more like bug problems. But the gameplay itself was fantastic. It was just what I wanted from a LBP cart racing game. A 5/10 is an absolute joke of a score.

If you listen to the video reviews, Greg Millar doesn't touch on the same points for each game. The reviewer for MoH complains about story length saying it's only 6-7 hours long... Halo 4 is only a 6 hour game! My friend beat it already!!! But Greg Millar failed to mention the games length. He only described the story that shouldn't even be considered as part of a rating.

Summary: Video game reviews are bull. There's not universal way to rate a game "Good." Never base your purchasing decisions off of a review. And don't you dare say "Well it's a good indication" because God do I hate people who say that..no ..no it's NOT. Play the game, THAT'S your indication.
