Our biggest season ever has come and gone. A record 23 players faced off for a mountain of prizes and bragging rights, playing almost 40 challenges over the course of almost two months. This season, we're going back to basics... sort of...

We're planning on the most focused, most intense season we've ever had. Along with this new focus, we're introducing two twists unlike anything Survivor: LBP has ever seen before (one of which, I don't think any of the televised versions have even been willing to attempt...)

Reward challenges and tribal council questioning will return, albeit in a somewhat modified format. The amount of returning players will be limited as well.

For those who don't know, Survivor: LittleBigPlanet is a competition based on the TV show Survivor. In it, I take a group of players from the LBP community and split them up into teams. Every 2-3 days, players from the teams compete in challenges built in LBP2. The losing team must vote a player out and the process more or less repeats itself until we get to our final players.

Challenges come in different types, most of which will be based around solving puzzles or platforming. We try to put an LBP spin on what we think you'd see in a real life season of Survivor. In terms of how challenges are played, they mostly come in the following varieties:

1 - Challenges where players get to play on their own - either as many times as they want when going for a high score, or trying to be the first to get through a level.
2 - Head to Head challenges where we'll set a meeting time for everyone to get online and take on live opponents.
3 - Single player challenges where players must find a staff member online at their convenience.

Most of the game outside of challenges will take place in your team's private forum. Each team gets a private forum that can be thought of as their camp. There, players can interact with fellow teammates and get all of the latest updates on the game. Only the staff and the players on a team will be able to see what happens there. Once the game begins, players will gain access to their team's private forum.

Once a good portion of players have been eliminated (exact number to remain secret until it happens), the teams will merge and competitions will then become individual. The winner of these individual challenges gets immunity from being voted off. All remaining players will vote for one of those remaining.

Once we get down to the final vote, a specific number of recently eliminated players will each cast a vote for who they want to win. Most votes in the final vote becomes the Sole Survivor.

Rules and format for each challenge will be presented to the players following each vote.

Other variations may occur and will be explained to the players as the game progresses.

Doesn't LBP max out at 4 players?
Since LBP maxes out at 4 players, I've devised challenges that will work around that limitation. Some challenges will have the individual contributions of each team's members adding up to a whole, some will have head to head battles, some will require 2-3 from a team working together. Info and videos from our last few seasons can be found in the Survivor subforum here in Planetarium's competitions forum.

Want in? Here's what you need to do.
Send me something creative showing why you should be picked to play. Make a level, write a story, write a poem, sing a song, make a video... Whatever you think would tell the staff why you should be picked to play. Please keep these PG. As for what specifically to say or do, it's now up to you.

Once you do, I'll send you a questionnaire to fill out. Fill it out and send it back and you'll be invited to play a practice level with a member of our staff. Poor performance in the practice level shouldn't keep you from getting into the game ? instead your performance will be used when teams are created. After playing, all that's left is to await further info. Once we're about to start, I'll send you an invite to your team's group page. It's that simple!

However, there are some requirements for potential players:
Send in an application video, answer the questions, and play the application level with a staffer.
Be willing to check the forum at least once a day and play in a challenge once every 2-3 days.
Be able to make it to the occasional scheduled meet up in game, in Playstation Home, and in Planetarium's chat.
Be willing to stick with this game for as long as you're still in it. If this starts in early December, we'll probably end sometime in early January.
Be willing to vote in the final vote even if you're a sore loser you aren't satisfied with the final two.
Be able to take in game screenshots and either post them online or send them to me.
Be able to respond to messages and group posts in a timely manner.
Be able to either skype voice chat or record yourself and send it in.
Be willing to follow the rules of a given challenge.
Be willing to follow the rules of the overall game.

Finally, while this isn't a requirement, it will be beneficial for anyone playing to use Windows Live / MSN messenger or skype. Also, it will help all players to follow me on twitter @mrradical5601

They are no real limits to who can join this game. Returning players are allowed to play. Please do not lie about who you are. Please be somewhat coherent and have at least some grasp of how to play LBP. I also advise anyone who wishes to play to look up the basics of Survivor. Players from outside of the US can play. Players from outside of the US can win prizes. All PSN cards will be for the North American store.

The grand prize winner gets a $50 PSN card and a Planetarium Pin! Other toys and cards will be available throughout.

New this season, guarantee your way into the competition with a special high score competition! You'll have one attempt with unlimited lives to take on a platforming course. The one new girl and one new guy with the highest score at the end of the play period will be guaranteed a spot in this season! Interested players must play by November 16.

So how likely is the end date going to be pushed back? I would like to participate it this one (can I be in it even though I was in season... 6 I think?) but I can't if it goes past early January.2012-11-06 23:43:00

You know, it's kind of stupid, my vendetta against this.

As such, sure, I'll join.

Reason: Because you've been begging me to for years now.

Why don't I remember you having played? There's a difference between having applied and having played. Either way, returning players ARE allowed, but their numbers will be limited. I say go ahead and apply. And play that bonus challenge if you want.

I don't believe the game will be pushed back. Everything seems fairly on schedule so far. At the same time, there's no way to guarantee that uncontrollable factors won't slow the game down once we start. One thing to think about - there's no guarantee that you'll make it that far, and once you're far into the game, it becomes much easier to fit the game into your IRL schedule.

This is unexpected. And awesome. Message incoming.

I don't think I will try to join this season, even though the last one I was in was a blast. I'm just too busy with after-school activities.2012-11-10 03:13:00
