Requiem For A Pachyderm (http://vita.lbp.me/v/exh0j)

I have made a thing!

My initial foray into LBPV create is an interactive story prequel to my first LBP2 level, Wooly Bully. It's not really a platformer. The objective is to lead a juvenile mammoth to safety. There are 2 endings based on how you do...if you get the horrible ending, it's your fault.

Not sure if anyone will find the level enjoyable to play; hopefully the mammoth character is at least somewhat endearing...

Wow, I just loved this level. As I said in my in-game review, your levels always bring something unique to the game and this is certainly like no other VITA level I’ve played. The mammoth was superb - he looked so realistic and was so beautifully animated. The wolves were amazing as well. You really have a genius for that sort of thing.

I enjoyed the gameplay with its stealth and (mild) puzzle elements. I particularly liked all the little touches like the way the mammoth tiptoes past the hunters. I laughed out loud first time he did it. The humour was great throughout in fact.

I did find it a bit fiddly getting him in the right layer sometimes, particlualrly on the bends and I managed to get stuck on one of the tree trunk bridges but popped myself and got him out eventually. Also I’m not sure how badly you have to do to get the bad ending but it was a bit of blow first time it happened as I’d got attached to him! Still it only made me determined to try again until I’d got him home safe and sound!

Oh and I fell out of the level into the water below. It was in the glacier section, on the top level of the path on the right hand side. I was pressing hard right on the analogue stick to try and get him past the falling icicles quickly enough (they kept being my downfall!) and I was concentrating so hard on Stampy that I didn’t notice that I’d reached the wall of the level and managed to fall through a gap. I had to pop myself there too which probably did nothing to help me get the good ending lol! Still third time lucky and it was definitely worth it! *cue violins*

I am very happy to hear that...I really had no clue what people would think of this one.

Yeah, the Stampster is definitely a bit fiddly on the switch backs. I had a lot of trouble just keeping his feet on the ground so he's working as well as I was able to make him.

As for the endings, if your charge gets discovered/killed at all you get the bad ending...your sack person doesn't affect the ending. As a fail-safe I made it so that the check point statue things glow with the touch indicator to respawn the mammoth if he gets stuck and couldn't follow you to the checkpoint...not sure how anyone would know that...and it will earn you the bad ending if you use this option.

Oops, most of the level is de-physicalized...I must have forgotten to put something solid there, thanks for the info!

FUN FACT: This level only uses 4 bars of thermo!

I thought this level was gorgeous, and the mammoth was very well done. When he was tip-toeing by the cavemen, I had a huge grin on my face. I did have a little trouble getting by the wolves, since it was not my first instinct to duck under their attacks.

Overall, really cute level. 5 gold stars for making the mammoth work as well as it did!

This is one of the best looking and original levels I have ever played. Even on ps3, I have not seen many levels that look this gorgeous. The mammoth was awesome. I loved it so much! When I started playing it and saw it for the first time. I was in awe. The level design is stunning. The 3-d effects were spot on, and complemented your design to a tee. You are a true artist. The puzzles were great, I loved getting the elevator to work, and sneaking past the tribesmen.

Then I got stuck on the wolves. Man, I bet I tried for twenty minutes. I even restarted it thinking I missed a clue or a piece of instructions. But I never got past.

I ended up quitting, but not in anger.

I will go back and get past those dang wolves.

I must!!!!! :kz:

I want to heart this so bad, but I can't until I finish it.

And I will!!

Great job man!!

@VJ Duck! Those wolves seem to lack a sense of smell or maybe they're just on the track of something bigger but yes stealth should do the trick, lol!2012-11-06 02:13:00

Thanks for the tip Lass!!

I finished it!

Great job on this fullofwin/elvenbane!!

This deserves a team pick. It saddens me that this only has 7 plays.

I had this queued almost immediately after you published it, but only got a chance to sit down and play it last night. I'm a bit miffed I didn't get to play it before it got a team pick!

Anyway, absolutely loved it. The puzzles were really well done - I felt anyone who really pays attention can get through them. You left really nice clues. Even the wolves section - like Velcro, I got killed many times before I thought "there HAS to be a simple answer to this!".

Going for the good ending today! This is definitely a showcase for the extended abilities of Vita LBP - probably the only level I've played on LBP2 that was this pretty was..... Savage Planet.

Sorry about that, I would have pinged you for a pre-publish playtest...but I'd pretty much chalked this one up as a failed experiment; wish I hadn't rushed to complete the glacier section now. You can at least claim you were first to meet proto-Stampy 1.0 - back before he became a unicycle, lol.

This is definitely a showcase for the extended abilities of Vita LBP

I have to say, LBPV is completely amazing. The game engine handled whatever I wanted to throw at it...other than the 3 light rule, I didn't really have to think about engine limitations or scale back on my decorating.

It's funny how quickly you come to depend on the new stuff like the emitter cleanup option, dephysicallize, static material property, detecting tags on the same microchip, the invisible material, layer priority, etc.

This seems like a good time to thank DrunkenFist_Lee for his layer cascade. The extra layers in LBPV are more limited than LBP2...but I found them much easier to work with. The fact that you have dephysicalize means front layers are no longer annoying in create mode...and not having to glue anything or add gravity tweakers is a huge time saver too.

This level was really very awesome and unique. Definitely one of the best levels in LBPV and most certainly one of the most unique. I got both the good and bad ending (those dang wolves the first time, they need some explantion), and loved it. Thanks for the fun!2012-11-08 05:15:00

Hi,

Awesome level, fullofwin.

Unfortunately we temporarily have to remove it from the TeamPick page, since it appears to be the cause of the glowing Sackboy issue (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=75414-Glowing-Sackboy-Problem). It'll will be TP'd again as soon as we have resolved the issue.

Hope you understand,
Simon

That's just the glow of enlightenment that comes from basking in the level's awesomeness.

Maybe the level should be locked?

Hey fullofwin,

When Sackboy is riding on the mammoth, he may be picking up the "glowing" touch effect from having a touch tweaker on it. Do you have a touch tweaker on something attached to the controlinator and does it have the touch effect enabled?

Edit: the effect is supposed to be disabled when Sackboy is attached via a controlinator but you may have inadvertently found a way around the restriction.

Edit2: Reading the Get Satisfaction page makes me think this has nothing to do with the touch effect. Never mind then. :/

Edit: the effect is supposed to be disabled when Sackboy is attached via a controlinator but you may have inadvertently found a way around the restriction.

The controlinator is attached to a piece of invisible material (part A) that is connected to the rest of Stampy's drivetrain (part B) via a piston (so I can change the seat height when stitting vs. standing). The touch tweaker/sensors are attached to a piece of invisible sticker panel (part C) that is glued to part B (because touch sensor doesn't work on invisible material except in create w/preview mode off). So touch tweaker is only indirectly connected via piston to the piece with the controlinator...and nothing is glowy because it's all invisible.

Maybe what triggers the problem is my checkpoint statues. These glow so you can touch to respawn Stampy if he's out of view/stuck...the glow effect includes connected stuff and the checkpoint is glued to the rest of the statue. My theory is that if you pop when the cp is glowy maybe you become enlightened?!?

I do also have some sudden global light changes in cutscenes (like the one right before the glacier)...that seems to be what Get Satisfaction thinks is the problem...but I don't see why I've never been affected if that's the case...

Maybe. I really don't know. Try detaching the checkpoints (they can be set to static on their own), but I dunno how you'd test it.

Yeah, I wouldn't be sure I've found a work-around. It's a LBPV coding bug that needs to be addressed, I don't see any need to start fiddling.

I think the REAL issue is people's attitude towards "glowing" sackboys. Just because a sackboy glows, doesn't make him/her any less of a sackboy. Diversity is good - we should embrace it.

In fact, I've heard it said that pregnant women "glow" - and I don't think it was meant as an insult. I'm just excited that Elvenbane created a level building system that's so complex, it's capable of impregnating a sackboy.

Can't we all just get along?

(let me apologize ahead of time for this post. I think I'm just avoiding getting work done).

I was correct, it was a weird scenario involving the checkpoints...

I published a level that will correct your sack person for anyone affected. I can turn the glitch on/off at will so I am pretty confident that my fix works.

Will change and republish Requiem shortly...

Thanks, it was a great level, I really enjoy it, and I became for a while a sackglowy , but I found ur own solution really quick, so thank u very much!

To be honest, I dont think is a big issue... think about it, its like the T-shirt for the launch of a game, that its only for a week... well, this is a Sackglowy for a while, that no many people can have , GlowTshirt, they should sell it

How i Said, great level, I didnt even know that you can do such things in the game! congrag.

Thank you, glad you liked it. The level has been republished since you played it (4 days ago) so that it no longer triggers the glitch. I can definitely see why people found the glitch annoying.

I'm quite surprised how many people were afflicted given that I believe you needed to explicitly pop without Stampy being near a checkpoint. Not sure why you would do that but it certainly isn't something I normally do during testing.

I still can't figure out how people are turning Stampy into a pushmepullme (both left and right shells emitted at the same time)...I've had no luck replicating that and would really like to fix it if I can figure out how to make it happen...

Great level! I love how Stampy stands up on his hind legs in certain areas! Regarding the pushmepullme glitch, it can be replicated easily by pushing the stick left and right quickly.

Thanks a bunch, guess maybe I wasn't changing directions fast enough to trigger it...will try again!

btw: Is there a way to delete photos people upload to a level in-game (or even just to see them)? There's an info page (4th or 5th bullet) that I think is supposed to show photos (clicking the tiny photo preview on the first panel also takes you to this panel)...but it's always blank for me. It's doesn't seem to be trying to load anything...it's just blank?!?

That's definitely where the photos are supposed to be loaded, so it's odd that they're not showing up at all! Mine takes forever to load them, but the swirling icons indicate that it's at least trying to. You don't even have those loading icons?

As for being able to delete them, I'm not sure... one would certainly hope so.

Nope...and I waited several minutes, nothing ever showed up; you'd think it would start slowly filling in photos if it was actually doing something. These are pretty low-res photos, they should be fairly tiny and transfer quickly...I'll just keep trying...maybe one day it will work.

Thought this level was nothing short of GENIUS!
That mammoth is brilliant! I remember people wanting sackbots to walk on four legs but I don't think it'd have been as good as this!
I'll have to get on the PS3 and play Woolly Bully now! Did you use your mammoth in that one?

p.s. Do I see a living sackboy in the middle of there?

Thanks Steve!

Stampy is just deco on sticker panel connected by wobble bolts.

Wooly Bully is probably my favorite LBP2 level but as it was my 1st level for LBP2 and published shortly after release it does have it's share of issues. It's a more traditional platformer with a mammoth boss (if you get that far!) that is nothing like Stampy.

I modified the level to remove the glitch trigger, the patch to eliminate it is still neccessary/coming.

I see that I failed to address the 2-headed mammoth. I hope it's at least not as easy to do!

btw: Has anyone tried the Vita browser after the last update? I using it now...its smokin fast, good job Sony!!!
