Multi-player Gaming Conundrum

I was just wondering if there's any good free to play games on the computer?
I was hoping to find one that me and my friends could all play, so I was just wondering if anybody knew any games.

Thanks in advance

Team Fortress 2

Nuff said. Not only is it free, you also don't need a potent computer to run it, and it's an excellent game. Quirky, unique, hilarious, perfectly balanced, and it requires skill. When it comes to competitive FPS, you can't do better than that.

There's also Tribes Ascend and League of Legends. Star Wars: The Old Republic will transition to free-to-play soon, but from what I hear, it'll have kind of a pay-to-win model.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is currently Japanese only, but there is a fan-made English patch, and it will be released officially in NA in 2013. The game is completely free, and one of the best online MMO-style games I've ever seen.

Dota 2, when they finally get it out of beta. Although they have given away so many keys recently that you could get them easily anyway...

Just don't play LoL. LoL is bad.

League of Legends.

Seriously never LoL.

LoL has become so popular because people enjoy playing it. Let's not blur the line between opinion and fact, hm? I don't play it myself, but those who choose to play it are free to do so.

LoL has become popular because it's free to play. Dota will also be free to play, except doing well on Dota will actually require skill. Also, you don't have to buy all the heroes on Dota...

You're only half right. LoL has become popular because it's free-to-play, and because people enjoy playing it. If no one liked it, then no one would play it; free-to-play or not.

You're right, playing Dota well does require skill, but the same goes for LoL... and pretty much any game ever created.

Regarding heroes requiring purchase in LoL, it's not like it costs real money. You can purchase them for in-game currency, and a match or two is enough for a character. I agree that it can be annoying, but if you're just trying out characters, you can use the weekly free heroes until you find one you like, and by that point you'll have enough in-game money to buy it permanently.

I don't play LoL, nor do I play Dota 2, but I have played them both, and they're both good in their own right. In the end, it's nothing more than a matter of opinion; everyone is entitled to their own, so long as they're not shoving it down others' throats.
