Ragdoll Death Tutorial

Archive: 1 post

Hello! Umbral, as you know. And I've got a new idea, don't know if anyones succeeded in this but lets give it a go: Ragdoll Death! You see, I've been playing a game called Raze 2 (Who else has played it?) and in that game, they use Ragdoll Death physics. This is for sackbots purely do to parts. Because its based on body part decorations. Such as a sackbots arm or a sacbots leg. It's fairly easy. And the concept is: You're in a sackbot controlled level, and you try to jump over a gaing chasm and..... you get shot by whatever you're at war with. Now: would you like to dissappear? Or make it more realistic with a ackbot, falling limp on the ground? That's what I thought. Fairly simple logic, not a micro in sight. So lets get to it!

Alrighty, why dont you go ahead, make 6 peices of Polystrene (Basic Material), 2 thin and 4 thick. They're width should be minimum. Hold the right stick down until it can't go smaller, turn small grid on, and mke each part about 2 high. These are the peices the body is going to rest on.

Now, if you tilt you right stick side to side, and take out a decoration, you notice you can put decorations on the SIDE of thin layers (and thick layers alike.) Place as so: Sackbot Body Dcoration > Thin Peice 1
Sackbot Head Decoration > Thin 2
Sackbot Arm Decoration > Thick 1 (press L3 and place another arm on thick 2)
Sackbot Leg Decoration > Thick 3 (press L3 and place another leg on thick 4)

Ok, tip if you didnt place it right, Thin 1 should be glued to the bottom of Thin 2. Thick 2 should be behind Thin 1, bolt Thin 1 to Thick 2. Then place Thick 1 in front of Thin 1, and bolt Thick 1 to Thin 2. Upper body complete! I'm sorry if you got confused. Now, add a small secion on the bottom of Thin 1 for the legs to go. Thick 3 should go behind the scrap, bolt it there, and Thick 4 should be in front of the scrap, bolt that there.

Ok thats the hard parts gone. Now, just move the stickers (except the thin ones) across the block until they look right with eachother. Make bolts invisible, and then use material changer to change all the polystrene into rubber. This makes the blocks invisible by default. (Some objects that have rounded corners can usually become invisible BUT still have their physics properties if they are made to the smallest width, examples: Dark Matter, Some sponges, and basic rubber.)

And that's the finished product! I hope you like it! If you wanna test it, drop it off of a cliff and if you built it right, there should be arms flailing and stuff. Alrighty, well let's look at how this can be used with sackbots. If youve made a checkpoint system, make it so that when the sackbot ISNT sensed, then it will emit a sackbot ragdoll. Good? Good.

Hope you enjoyed, you guys are awesome, don't forget to answer the poll, telling me if it helped you in any way. I'll add 2 more options for today because I know this wasn't the EASIEST tutorial, and it got complicated around the assemble step. And alrighty cya later. Btw, if you know where the sackbot body decoration is (Can't find it anywhere in the whole multi-verse) then inbox me please. Alrighty, bye.
