No respawns in real life? Since when!?

Archive: 45 posts

Yet another story of a kid who murdered his parents when he was told to stop playing his computer games. He shot his mother and father after he was banned from playing Halo 3. I would expect better from a 17 year old.

He apparently thought that his parents would somehow respawn says the judge:

I firmly believe that Daniel Petric had no idea at the time he hatched this plot that if he killed his parents, they would be dead forever.

idk thats sick, really disturbing. I have a very very hard time believing he honestly thought they would respawn thats just ridiculous. And i'm not saying they deserved to die by the hands of their clearly derranged son but i saw a video of some kid sickly addicted to myspace it was just disguisting he was screaming at the top of his lungs, attacking, and crying at the thought of his brother taking it away.

i feel its the parents fault for letting their kid get like that. (ill admit even my own mom let me get very bad with world of warcraft and Socom 2 when i was playing that, I mean sure the kid is kind of responsible but your a kid what are you going to want to do play video games or do homework if you have a choice)

Yeah the parents have a degree of responsibility. Should have made him go outside once in a while.

It's quite obvious to me from reading the judge's full statement that he sides with Jack Thompson. Meaning, he doesn't actually know what he's talking about, but they weren't around in the old days so they can't have redeeming qualities. The kid obviously knew they wouldn't respawn, that's silly to think that.

Though I do agree with the judge's decision. The kid wasn't insane and was clearly guilty. Send him to jail.

Some games are addictive. That's a very true statement. There are many things in life that are relatively harmless or even beneficial in small or controlled doses, but can be harmful if taken too much.

I think, especially after reading the linked article, the problem was not of thinking his parents would respawn, but of them trying to break through an addiction cycle. That can be a very hard and sometimes dangerous thing, especially if the person addicted does not WANT to give up the addiction.

It's just very unfortunate and saddening that in this case the response of the teenager to the parents trying to help was to attempt to kill them. I just cannot express my grief in too little a series of terms about such a saddening topic.

The kid thought his parents would respawn!? C'mon, there is no way you can go 17 years and not notice that people who die tend to stay dead.

What is wrong with these kids and parents? Is it that hard to raise a kid that isn't a complete moron/nut?

On a side note, I wonder if the kid teabagged his parents after he commited the act.

lol @ volitare.. i've played enough games i know that one...

ya they can be very addictive if they let it get out of control which they obviously did...im sure he has some other mental issues going into it. but i think most people don't realise or dont to realise how addicting even video games CAN be, if they let themselves get that way.

video games can be very very addicting i know first hand when i played world of warcraft. at the time i thought i was fine of course but looking back at it i was addicted pretty badly

Sadly you don't regenerate so quick either.
Found that out the hard way.
And a simple medic jab doesn't do the trick either..

LMAO at the comment above

That's what the judge said. He really is taking the kid for a retard. He KNOWS what he was doing. Seriously.

Such level of fail really. Notice that he's been in some other cases reeking of hate for videogames too. It's like videogames are more to blame than the kid himself...

Not as dark as:

It's annoying the way gamers are given such a bad image by a handful of individuals.

He must of been crazy to even play halo 3 ... let alone a xbox360 CRAZY KID..!

serious note: For a 17 year old, i would of thought he would of been mature enough to know the consequences and There is no respawn points c'mon.! who thinks that..! He wants a good beating in jail

I was told this story at a lunch yesterday. I honestly started laughing, because of him thinking that his parents would respawn. More specifically, my friend said, "He thought his parents were going to respawn in the kitchen or something." XD2009-01-14 23:10:00

This reminds me of an article at some anti-videogame-crusade website. Basically, it said that a five year old was living with a drunken uncle, who forced him to sleep on rags in a corner, and he lived with him because "he was the only person able to take care of the boy", but no, it was because the boy played a few target range games that he shot a girl, not because he was forced to live with a drunken uncle who abused him >_<.

Anyway... I'd be quite sad if that judge actually believed that a 17 year old thought that his parents respawned, and then say he wasn't crazy :/.

I mean this in the nicest possible ways but the kid was prob somewhere in America.....

As for the usual "OMG video games are corrupting the youth" stuff, the same was said about comic books and Elvis's hips - Both which are now a fondly remembered American invention (sort of)

don't think creative meant to be ordering anyone around or anything was just making everyone aware that he is obviously sympathetic with the lose of their life and doesn't feel its very appropriate to make a joke out of it. I'm comfortable joking around a little bit about it but I respect his point of view2009-01-15 19:00:00

Not really. It's making fun of the stupid judge. But hey, maybe he's right. Maybe he was crazy and thought his parents would respawn. But how old is this kid, 17?

I think this is a really screwed up kid, and i mean REALLY screwed up, like one that used to bow down to his XBox 360 and started giving it Cheatos as sacrafices to the thing. See what XBox does to peopl . But i think that it is actually kind of funny when the juror says... "This Court's opinion is that we don't know enough about these video games." looks like they have not been studying up >_>, oh and i can hear in my head the guy saying video games with extra confusion and emphasis (LOL) and talking about them as if they are out of this world. The guy even thinks that you can get addicted to them >_> as if it were a drug >_> with the entire withdrawl syndrome >_> SERIOUSLY? *sigh* some people in this world. *goes to bow down to PS3 and is sitting there with his eyes wide open 0.0 staring at the television with all concentration in the world and is whispering under his breath "Mine... My PS3..." over and over again*

Ok sorry i could not help myself making fun of the kid. but i hope you see my point

Cheers!

I agree with what you say but I must inform you of something:

The way the brain works, you can get addicted to ANYTHING bringing you pleasure. People are addicted to food, sex, sports, TV, music, videogames, alcool, drugs, etc. Anything that can bring you good.
