Super-Bot Tutorial

Archive: 3 posts

Heya! Umbral again, and I'm am making a second tutorial on a Super hero! Another bot tutorial, cuz that's what I am, a bot specialist. Alright lets get started.

First, take out a control bot and give him a nice costume, theres tutorial on bots if you wanna look it up, and raise up the collinator panel to the height of the head. Now open up the Sackbot Micro,Place down a microchip and open it. In there, lets start with moving the DCS in your bot to the micro.

Then we need a... Not gate, a tag sensor, and an AND gate. Now, name that tag sensor GREEN > Object. Then wire the R1 button of the DCS to the 1st port of the AND gate. Wire the tag sensor to the AND gate, and the AND gate to the not gate. Which is wired to an emitter. The gate is also wired to a normal emitter.

The normal emitter should have these settings: Emit Once
Ignore Parent Velocity: Yes
Lifetime: 0.1
Emitted at once: 1

It should also emit an upside down Grabinator above the player, the sackbot should then pick up the Grabinator when it is near that tag and it presses R1.

Now I personally don't like the look of the Grabinators in this case, so place down another NOT gate on the DCS, and wire the R1 button to it. Then wire the NOT gate to the circle button. This will make it so he picks up the grabinators AND grabs whatevers closest, and when u stop grabbing, the grabinators go away. This simulates super strength!

Now for the flight. This is fairly basic, as it's one of the first steps to bot supremacy. Put down an advanced mover. Wire L1 to the On/Off of the Mover. Wire the outputs of the left stick to the correct input of the mover. This makes it so its ALWAYS trying to move you, but it will only move you when you press L1. Good? Good.

Now for the last touch on the bot. Put it aside, and make a peice of hologram/sticker panel, about 4 small grad squares high. Place a follower on the bottom half of it, and make a thin peice of material in front of the top half, bolt it on. This SHOULD mean the bolt is at the height of the bots head. If not, play with it a bit.

Make a Micro on the thin peice, and move our emitter from the micro to the new micro. Good? Awesome. Now make a VERY thin peice of hologram (it works best) and make it fairly long. Make it red (preferablly, its a laser.) and put plasma on it. Aso put a tag that says RED > Laser.

Emitter settings: Ignore Parent Velocity: Yes
Lifetime: 0.2
Frequency: 0.0
Destroy Effect: Fade
Create effect: Appear
Emitted at once: 50

There we go. Now, make a Joystick Rotator, and make it face Right, which should also be the direction the emitter is facing the laser. Then wire the proper right stick outputs to their inputs. If they get messed up, rotate it by 90 degrees. I have not yet mastered Joystick Rotators for myself. Confusing. The wire the same right stick outputs to the Tilt Controller inputs. So you'll move your head. For the up/down input, wire the up/down right stick to a directional splitter. Place down a directional combiner, and wire the Splitters outputs like so:

Positive to Negative, and Negative to positive. This makes a directionally inverted output. So if you press one way, it will go the other way. Up/Down on the head signal inverts the signal for some odd reason. So when u press down, ur head goes up. The directional inverter fixes that.

Now, if you want to try it out, Step near a box with the GREEN > Object tag on it, and you'll grab it. Step away from it and press R1, you'll shoot a laser.

Optional part: Put an impact sensor. Set it to Include Touching: Yes. And require tag: RED > Laser. Set that to a timeof 5.0, and wire THAT to an explode destroyer. This makes the box explode if you laser it long enough. Also, if you'd like, add a visual indicator. I like making a square of hologram the same size as the box, and then setting it to Dimmer and the color red. Then wiring the timer to said hologram. This makes it brighter according to how close the box it to exploding.

And that's my tutorial on Super-Bots! I will not be making a level on this, I'm busy. But I'm happy t give you the logic in hopes that I inspired many wonderful potential creators out there. It's been fun, and g'bye.

Very, very confusing! I did get some of it, but I just got jumbled up picturing it in my head!
Maybe you could add pictures or even a video? It would be much obliged!
Bots is something that I'd like to improve in my levels, so it would be awesome if you were to do more of these!
Thanks man!

Yea sorry 'bout that, bots can be confusing at times, Ik. And as for pictures/videos, I'm sorry but I have absolutely no clue how to take pictures or videos that doesnt look bad on my TV. I dont have a steady camera or anything... So sorry, but for now you must deal with my writing until I find a way that works. 2012-10-31 13:05:00
