What's your Top 10 Moives EVER?
We have all had this debate at one point...

Yes, It's time. We must answer once and for all the age-old question: What are your top 10 favourite movies? That does not mean 'top 10 best movies', it means your favourite movies. The Majestic

What I mean by that is that all three of the films deserve that spot. I'm rather undecided basically on which I like most. Please don't take the list too seriously.2012-10-28 12:19:00

OH MY GOD. Why did I forget Anchorman?! I feel like I'm in a glass case of emotion!
In fact, y'know what, all Will Farrel movies all go into 2nd place, I'll take Terminator 2 out.
"F.B.I Female Body Inspector! Get out of town! This out outrageous! ... I'm gonna climb over that anger wall of yours some day."

I'm sure I'm leaving out an obvious choice, but my brain isn't yet fully functioning this morning. Seven of my top ten movies are all parts of series - instead of just picking the entire series I've picked my favorite movie from each one. So then, in no particular order:

The Terminator
Terminator 2 is a great movie and easily one of my all time favorites, but I'll always have a soft spot for the original. Stand-out moment: The scenes in "Arnold vision" where you see him choose his dialog responses.

Empire Strikes Back
I pretty much grew up watching this movie. Stand-out moment: Vader is even grumpier than normal, which is really saying something.

The Fifth Element
I didn't even like this movie the first time I saw it, and now I can't get enough of it. Stand-out moment: Multipass!

Aliens
I love the entire Alien quadrilogy/whatever, but this is by far the best. Stand-out moment: Any scene with Hudson (Bill Paxton) in it.

The Matrix
Instant sci-fi classic. I don't know what I expected when I first saw it, but it sure caught me off guard. Stand-out moment: "I know kung-fu."

Dumb & Dumber
My very favorite idiotic comedy of all time, hands down. Jim Carrey is always a genius but this is something special. Stand-out moment: "Here, you should take these extra gloves. My hands are kinda sweaty."

The Hunt For Red October
I'm not usually one for political intrigue type movies but this one just rocks. Fascinating and intriguing from start to finish, even if Sean Connery has no idea how to pull off a Russian accent. Stand-out moment: "You've lost another submarine?"

Unforgiven
A sobering, gritty, and non-glamorous view of life on the frontier. Every character is both likeable and flawed, and there are no "good guys" or "bad guys". Not exactly what I would call a feel-good movie but not depressing either. Stand-out moment: "You just shot an unarmed man!" "Well he should have armed himself then."

Return Of The King
I love all things Tolkien, but I have to choose the grand finale as my favorite. One of the best movies ever made. Stand-out moment: When the ghost army comes riding in.

Pulp Fiction
Another movie I didn't really like when I first saw it, but easily the best of its genre. Nothing else I have ever seen really compares to it. Stand-out moment: The Wolf.

Dude you've got Arnold in your top 10 but no Total Recall? D:

Also, apologies to everyone, Anchorman is never going to be anywhere near my top 10. Will Ferrell is just incredibly irritating in my opinion, which I realize is a minority opinion. On my personal list, Anchorman's spot is easily replaced by Young Frankenstein.

As far as the usual "top 10 movies list" staples go, I'm surprised to not see Indiana Jones, Dark Knight, or Godfather anywhere on here so far.

Don't think I'll post a list simply because I don't really have one. Just a bunch of movies I enjoy in no particular order, so bringing it down to a particular number is difficult for me and probably subject to change every single time I make it anyway, I just enjoy being part of discussions like this.

Spirited Away

You see, I knew I'd forget something critically important. Yes, without question Total Recall belongs on that list somewhere. One of my favorites ever.

Im glad you chose the first Matrix because the other two made me hate keanu Reeves Yeah, the second Matrix immediately devalued the first time. I prefer to treat the original Matrix as a standalone movie that simply leaves you wondering "what if.." at the end of it. Much better that way.

Yes! Can't wait for The Hobbit. The trailer has gotten me hyped. Totally. That's midnight show territory for me, no question.

And of course you'll list a Star Wars movie.Naturally. You'd think less of me if I didn't.

1. Lost in translation
2. Definately maybe
3. Forrest Gump
4. A beautiful mind
5. Sherlock Holmes (2009)
6. Laputa: Castle in the sky
7. Spirited away
8+9. The combined story of pirates of the carribean 2 + 3 (also... if you watch the deleted scenes it was a totally different and more in depth)
10. Jurrasic park

Bit of background:

I'm a history nut who likes alternate worlds with high levels of fiction and am a sucker for a happy ending. So feel free to criticize and tear my list apart.

My favorites have to be:

1. The Amazing Spider-Man;that movie just showed a darker turn on Spider-Man that no one has ever done (Not even Brian Micheal Bendis in the comics!) I LOVED Rhys Ifans as the Lizard (although there were parts that made me jump).

2.The Expendables 2;this movie just brings together so many people from so many different action movies that it automatically makes it a classic.

3. The Avengers;this is something different from usual super hero movies. This one had different movies about the characters, then brought them all together in one movie, something no one has ever done before.

4. The 40 Year Old Virgin;this movie made me laugh my pants off. In the past I've only seen Steve Carrell in kiddy stuff like Horton Hears A Who and stuff. Seeing him in this just showed me another side of him.

5. Crazy, Stupid, Love;bringing together Steve Carrell (again...), Kevin Bacon, Emma Stone, and Ryan Gosling just made this film one of my most favorites.

6. Return of the King;with all the action and story that it has to offer, it is just one of my most favorites. My most favorite part was when Boromir's father (that snotty king) who thought his other son died in a battle, so he was going to cremate him. Gandalf and Pippin try to stop him, and so they pull out his body, the king gets burned on fire, and he runs out of his castle, on fire, and falls to his death with no thought at all.

7. 007 A View To Kill;Roger Moore is my most favorite actor who has played James Bond, and Christopher Walken as the best as a villain, so this film worked out well for me.

8. RED;this was different from any other action film I have seen, and with a sequel coming up, I'll have to watch it again to remember.

9. Die Hard;for the year it was made in, it just blew me away. And again with the newest one coming out next year (A Good Day to Die Hard), then this will have to be a must-see.

10.The Dark Knight Rises;this took a much darker turn on the hero we all love, so this has to be on my faves.

Woah! After all your awesome responses I feel like I should totally reconsider my list - or just extend it haha!
The Matrix, Aliens & Pulp Fiction are excellent! Undeniably cool! Also, anything that's Tarantino-y.
I feel like I shouldn't really be saying this... but i'm a closet fan of Arnie. I LOVE Total Recall, and to be honest, it totally beats Terminator any day. I could watch the original Total Recall (I forever hate Colin Farrel) over and over again. I quote Arnie's lines all the time!
Spirited Away - yes! Totally agree! Y'know what, I'll make a separate thread for Animated films. Anything Studio Ghibli is pure gold - I could watch Ponyo all day!
At this point, I think I'll admit an unknown truth about me...
I'm a HUGE 007 fan! Yes, I love every single one. I seen Skyfall at the weekend. Trust me you need to see this film. (Top Bond Actors in order: Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig, Timothy Dalton ect)
Finally, I'd like to put forward classics: The Godfather (Part I), Rear Window, Psycho, The Birds, It's A Wonderful Life ect (you can see I like Jimmy Stewart)
I knew they'd be a group of film-lovers in this community somewhere! This is an awesome discussion! I love your contributions! Does anyone have an indie or relatively-unknown flick that they'd like to share? I'm always looking for new films to watch Thanks guys!

EDIT: Taffey, you're so right about The Matrix. I had a 'Matrix Marathon Night' once and I thought I'd watch all three films. I finished the 1st one, then watched 3 minutes of the second one and turned it off. I'm not going to even attempt to finish watching it, or the 3rd one. They totally dampen the affect of the ending to the first film.

An easy way to sum it up:

The Matrix: Wow what a great job the fight choreographers did!

The Matrix Reloaded: Wow what a ...decent.... job the animators did.

The Matrix Revolutions: Wow what a ...kind of better... job the animators did.

In no particular order...

Forrest Gump. That movie was genius. "Run, Forrest, run!"

Grave of the Fireflies. I'm not really interested in anime (in fact, this was the first anime film I ever watched), but it's so freakin' emotional. "She never woke up again".

2012. The plot was rubbish. Get map. Go to China. Sneak on boat. All while the world ends. The end. But the destruction scenes were... byooteeful. I could just imagine all the hipsters dying...

Yes man. Interesting plot, and some pretty good comedy. "I like Red Bull."

The Truman Show. Very, very original plot. Also it does so well in making fun of today's world. "He was born in front of a live audience."

Um... the Lethal Weapon series? I'm pretty fond of action scenes, so yeah. I don't remember any quotes, but the scene where Mel and... other cop attempt to dispose of a car bomb, but blow it up instead... I loved it.

Inception. The whole idea of entering someone else's dream intrigues me. The visual effects were awesome. Like the Limbo scenes... Can't remember any quotes from it.

Up. It looked bright and colourful, and the ideas were great. "Hey, let's play a game. It's called 'See who can be quiet the longest'.

Intouchables. It's a French movie, but I like it a lot. The scene where the caretaker dood shaves the wheelchair dood was memorable.

I really don't know what I should do for my last one, so I'll just say the first movie that comes to mind: Dead Poets Society. Yeah.

Hmm...

1. The Dark Knight
2. The Dark Knight Rises
3. Inception
4. Star Wars Trilogy
5. Dumb and Dumber
6. Hot Rod (LOL, best singing scene ever)
7. Up (So sad.)
8. Indiana Jones Trilogy
9. Napoleon Dynamite
10. Avengers

I'm pretty sure that new movie, Wreck-It-Ralph, will replace one of these when I see it on Friday. A MOVIE?! WITH VIDEOGAMES?!
10.

I thought the Truman show was great! It has a very original idea! Is it just me or was Jim Carrey made for that role?
Also, Inception was genius! The turning corridor scene alone was such a huge film making achievement!

1. The Dark Knight
2. The Dark Knight Rises
3. Inception
Ahh! A Nolan fan eh? I could talk for hours about his films!

9. Napoleon Dynamite
I frickin' loved that film. I cried with laughter! My twin bro doesn't get it, but I guess I'm just a big fan of dry humor.

I'm sorry, but am I the only one who thought The Dark Knight Rises was a far better movie than the Dark Knight?
I am genuinely undecided! I recon that Rises was better, but we'll see after a back-to-back viewing when the blu-ray comes out!

Oh! I forgot one film that I think y'all should go see:
SUBMARINE (2010)
I was a bit hesitant and slightly put-off at first but don't worry; you will not regret seeing this film. It's visual style is impeccable, the writing is top-notch and the actor's chemistry is very strong! Highly recommended! It's out on DVD now

I really liked Crazy Heart, another great film I'd recommend any day, he was excellent with Jeff Bridges!
But y'know sometimes you just tend to not-like a certain actor? Just seeing them makes you cringe a wee bit? Surely you have an actor that - despite quite probably being a good all-round actor - you just dispise? No? Just me? Aw well.

If I told the movies I LIKE the BEST, most of you would be confused as heck, so I'll put my favourite English movies.

10) Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: While this is not so obvious choice, one can't help but to be amused at the fighting scenes. This movie has funny moments, well made story, action scenes are the best and the fact that it is a movie to praise the video game culture, I can't help but to love this!

9) Avengers: the Movie: Not many writers can write a movie with 6 main characters and still give them all well enough screen time, make them all interesting and also make the movie has an interesting story, ******* action and one of the best villains in superhero genre ever. This movie nailed all of those perfectly.

8) Kung Fu Panda 2: Amazingly funny, fun to watch and definitely worth the place. The story is touching, interesting, action is very well handled and when there's a place for a joke... It's taken! This movie's a blast for everyone.

7) Batman The Dark Knight: Batman at its best, best portrayal of the Joker ever and the story actually makes sense. Awesome movie, well deserving to be in this spot.

6) Shrek 2: Best work of Dreamworks so far. It is a very touching movie, its story is a masterpiece and comedy is perfectly nailed here.

5) Sherlock: The Game of Shadows: Even if I am not in a majority, I dare say that this is best Sherlock Holmes apart from the BBC-Series (which isn't a movie, sadly). It's a great, very well done movie, but I can't say much about it since its beaten in pretty much everything by the BBC-Series, leaving it in a shadow. But even though, it's still an awesome movie.

4)Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: To me, part 1 and 2 are one movie, because, well, they are TWO PARTS OF THE SAME STORY. If the first part had a cliffhanger, I'd agree to it being two different movie but nevermind that. If I had to choose, though, it'd be Part 2, since part 1 was merely just setup for one of the best movie-saga enders in the history of movies.

3) Toy Story 3: I only wanted to choose one of these, so here it is! The best Pixar movie, everyone can relate to, everyone can love and for a good reason.

2) Star Wars: Trilogy. From New Hope to Return of the Jedi, with the golden Empire Strikes Back movie in the middle, this nails everything. Only one thing that could ever beat this... Well, three things, but that's kind of a spoiler...

1) The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Uncut. If you disagree, we have nothing to talk about ever again. This is the best trilogy ever (can't wait for The Hobbit) and I can see nothing ever defeating such epicness. This is EPIC at it's top, creamed with EPIC with an EPIC PIECE OF EPICNESS on top. This is not gold, this is freaking DIAMOND. Forever.

I only wanted to choose movies I really liked but were NEW, or at least KNOWN, so I wouldn't end up choosing movies no-one's ever heard of. For my real top ten, it would include A classic Sherlock Holmes, Komisaario Palmu and Uuno Turhapuro movies, but you probably don't know what they are (apart from Sherlock), unless you're Finnish. In case you are Finnish and don't know them, well, you probably don't deserve to.

Aladdin: This was always my favorite movie as a kid. I watched it over and over again when I was little. Pretty sure I wore the VHS out. Hope to see the Blu Ray sometime soon.

Inception: This is just one of those movies where even after it was over I was still trying to connect the dots. It had me on the edge of my seat through out it's whole run time. And after it was over the discussions we had about the ending; whether it was a dream? Reality? It was just entertaining.

The Hunger Games: The rare film that lives up to it's book. As a huge fan of the book my expectations for the film were very high. And I'm happy to say it did not disappoint. The changes that were made were necessary for the books transition to the screen. Nothing ridiculous or unneeded.

UProbably the only movie to have me on the verge of tears in the first ten minutes. As most Pixar movies it had lovable characters and a very creative plot. This just happens to be my favorite film from the Pixar studio.

Bambi: I didn't enjoy this one much when I was little. In fact, when it wasn't boring me to tears it was scaring me. But as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate it. The animation and gorgeous backgrounds are breathtaking, especially when you consider the films age (1942.) Just the story of that young and curious fawn that loses his mother, and grows into the "Great Prince of the Forest" is truly touching.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: What's not to love? The visuals are great, the comedy is great, the story is great. This movie basically does everything right. And I love it.

The Avengers: I really just loved seeing all the Marvel all-stars come together. As a Marvel fan, it truly delivered.

The Incredibles: Another one of Pixar's finest. It's a good story, good characters, and the movie has a good message.

Toy Story 3: Out of the trilogy this is my favorite. The ending almost had me in tears. But ti was a good close to such a fantastic trilogy.

How to Train Your Dragon: Most Dreamworks movies that are released I don't particularly enjoy. They almost all have this "GIVE US MONEY" cheap marketing feel to them. But this movie I love. I love the story, characters and the movie has a lot of heart. Easily one of my favorites.

I've read The Hobbit a few dozen times at least, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy all the way through a good 8 or 10 times. I've seen the movies I don't know how many times but it's a lot. I seriously geek out over Tolkien stuff.

How to Train Your Dragon: Most Dreamworks movies that are released I don't particularly enjoy. They almost all have this "GIVE US MONEY" cheap marketing feel to them. But this movie I love. I love the story, characters and the movie has a lot of heart. Easily one of my favorites.
Ah, great call! I had zero expectations of this movie and barely paid attention it when I started watching it, but it immediately sucked me in. LOVED this film. Not in my top 10 of all time, but certainly in my top 50 and an easy recommendation.

I loved when I saw the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit will probably just be as good, and most of the cast returns. Btw, I'm so happy that Andy Serkis returns as Gollum! I just love him in that role (and I also loved him as Caeser in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but have never seen him as King Kong)!2012-11-03 01:53:00

I like how you got a lot of animation films on that list! I love how you have classic Disney in with the new, modern animations. It just goes to show how far along they have come, but haven't gone off what Disney set out to do.

The Hobbit is gonna be awesome.
I got my issue of Empire in the mail today, it's a special edition: "The Hobbit" Edition. I'm soooo excited to read it! I may post pictures on a separate forum.

10) Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
EXCELLENT! How could I have forgotten that?! I like how it's a totally unique film; in it's humor and it's style.

I only wanted to choose movies I really liked but were NEW, or at least KNOWN, so I wouldn't end up choosing movies no-one's ever heard of.
I loooove foreign films! I think Hollywood has made few people disillusioned as to how films should be. That's why I love Michael Gondry's work! That's why Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is on my list, it's quite 'off' as to how a Hollywood film would play out, dispite itself being a product of Hollywood. Michel's other work in French films is truly superb! So yeah, we'd love to hear about your 'unknown' films!

@ the OP. Holy! I'm so surprised to see someone else have Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as their favorite movie. You sir, have a good taste in film.

3. Pan's Labyrinth
4. The Truman Show
5. Any pixar movie (except cars/cars 2/brave)
6. Moonrise Kingdom

And now for something completely different

10 is a very limited number for this kind of selection. My choice could look like this:

1. Mulholland Drive (2001) David Lynch
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Stanley Kubrick
3. Blade Runner (1982) Ridley Scott
4. Once Upon a Time in America (1984) Sergio Leone
5. The Deer Hunter (1978) Michael Cimino
6. Donnie Darko (2001) Richard Kelly
7. Apocalypse Now (1979) Francis Ford Coppola
8. The Sixth Sense (1999) M. Night Shyamalan
9. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) Milos Forman
10. Highlander (1986) Russell Mulcahy; Siesta (1987) Mary Lambert; The Matrix (1999) Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski

*Couldn't resist to place 3 on 10th.

The list is missing a lot more, such as (almost) the complete filmography of:
David Lynch
Sergio Leone
Stanley Kubrick
Christopher Nolan
David Fincher
Martin Scorsese
Francis Ford Coppola
Hayao Miyazaki
Quentin Tarantino
Ridley Scott
Roman Polanski
Oliver Stone ...

Hot Fuzz and the Dark Knight, simply wicked, to those concerned.

I was talking to a few people at a film group earlier in the week and I experienced something magical; I found an Eternal Sunshine fan! It was like Joel had just found Clementine in Montauk. I find these awesome gems of people every now and again, and valmassoi, you just became one of them! None of my friends find Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind to be as spectacular as I find it, so it's especially epic when I find someone who is a fan!

1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
2. The Dark Knight
3. Pan's Labyrinth
4. The Truman Show
5. Any pixar movie (except cars/cars 2/brave)
6. Moonrise Kingdom
7. A Separation
8. Shutter Island
9. Alien
10. Pulp Fiction
valmassoi, we either have a lot in common or you have somehow scanned my brain for that list! Haha!

1. Mulholland Drive (2001) David Lynch
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Stanley Kubrick
3. Blade Runner (1982) Ridley Scott
4. Once Upon a Time in America (1984) Sergio Leone

10. Highlander (1986) Russell Mulcahy; Siesta (1987) Mary Lambert; The Matrix (1999) Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski
Great list, very much comprised of classics! One very notable example for me would be One Few Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. At this time I'd like to mention Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer with Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan, fantastic film!

3. Pan's Labyrinth
Very cool! I haven't seen that movie since it first came out but I still remember how incredible it was.

10. Highlander (1986)
That's another one I need to watch again. I'll have to watch the sequel aga--- ...yeah I'm not strong enough to follow through with that joke, lol. How do you feel about a potential remake starring Ryan Reynolds?

I don't want to watch it, I don't want to spoil impressions of the original, which is just perfect.

Now, I'm not exactly a movie buff or anything, so my list is going to contain a lot of stuff that are from the 90's til now, and also, for some reason I hate movies that many people love, and love movies that a lot of people hate. So, please don't give me a lot of hate please. This is in no particular order.

1. The Dark Knight
2. Inception
3. Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 (I like to think of them as one whole movie)
4. Batman Forever (I don't get why so many people hate this movie, I love Jim Carrey and him being Riddler)
5. Star Wars: The Newer Trilogy (I don't get the hate for this either, both Trilogies are good, they are just really different)
6. The Avengers
7. The Dark Knight Rises
8. Men In Black 2
9. Men In Black 3
10. Titanic

I find it absolutely necessary to post these as an addition to my list:

20.) Hot Fuzz
19.) The Dark Knight
18.) Spider-man 2
17.) Rocky
16.) Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
15.) Monty Python and the Holy Grail
14.) Schindler's List
13.) Terminator 2: Judgment Day
12.) The Harry Potter Series (all of them in one spot)
11.) The Usual Suspects

Leaving it at ten is too simple.

Not a big movie-watcher, but here are five I really liked:
Pacific Rim
Avengers
Wreck-it Ralph
I, Robot
Ted

I know most of those are new, but I would like to point out my previous statement.
There are many movies I want to watch, though

I have a list of movies I really enjoy. This is a list that has no particular order of which one is my favorite. It is really hard to choose what is my favorite movie of all time because each is very different. I hope most of you have seen these before. If not, I highly recommend these movies.

(Alphabetical Order)

1. 50/50
http://afterclass.uiowa.edu/news/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/50-50__111215063410.jpg?url=/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/50-50__111215063410.jpg
When I first saw this movie I thought I was going to see a comedy, it turned out to also be a Drama. Very intelligent story telling and great use of basic script writing. Take out your tissues for this movie if you are prone to crying.

2. 101 Dalmatians
http://www.animationsource.org/sites_content/101_dalmatians/img_site/images-101-dalmatians-g.jpg
The reason why this is my favorite animated movie is because I had a couple Dalmatians at the time and this movie always brings back good memories of my dogs. It also has cute dalmatian puppies in it.

3. Courageous
http://www.urbanfaith.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/courageous_movie560x300.gif
This movie got bad reviews only because it had religion in it. Personally, it shouldn't matter what a movie has in it, if the story makes sense and it has a good moral at the end of it. This teaches fathers how to better themselves when they are having troubles with their families. Again, bring some tissues.

4. Dial M for Murdur
http://movieposters.2038.net/p/Dial-M-For-Murder_14.jpg
If you love a good murder movie with mystery and wonder, this a good movie for you. Alfred Hitchcock made a masterpiece with this movie Starring Grace Kelly!

5. Halloween
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yqatLzQ0cyQ/ThwMUmn7CtI/AAAAAAAAAnE/-bzuYtCCjQ4/s1600/WallPaper-Halloween-Movie-Logo-1-2.jpg
This is my favorite horror movie because of its ending. This was the first ever movie to create an ending that leaves you hanging. That is why I love this movie so much. When this movie came out it left viewers wanting more but they didn't get it. They had to go home with that feeling that the killer is still out there. Horror movies don't have to have all the blood and guts to be a good movie.

6. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
http://collider.com/wp-content/image-base/Movies/H/He_Loves_Me_He_Loves_Me_Not/He%20Loves%20Me,%20He%20Loves%20Me%20Not%20movie%2 0image%20(2).jpg
This is my favorite Foreign film. Yes, you do have to read subtitles, but this is the only movie that has made me feel bad for a character, and love them then turn it all around and make me hate that character and want them dead. Such a great love story.

7. Please Give
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BNTczOTAxOTMyM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTgyNTIyMw@@._ V1._SX640_SY942_.jpg
This movie focuses on three different family stories, that all intertwine together. The stories of each character are emotional and anyone can feel attached to the characters. It flows so perfectly you don't feel confused when it skips to a different location or character. Just lovely.

8. The Green Mile
http://www.jewishtribune.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/green-mile.jpg
A brilliant movie based on the book series by Stephen King. The character John Coffey is the most valuable in this movie and the one to pay attention to. Bring your tissues because this is one movie that will take you on a supernatural journey to find out the truth behind an inmate on death row. (R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan)

9. The Wild Bunch
http://www.craigskinnerfilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/The-Wild-Bunch.jpg
You have never seen a western like this before. The best one without Clint Eastwood. (I would say better than any movie he has been in.) The violence is brutal and not like hollywood violence. The shootouts are realistic and so are the wounds. Be mindful when watching with the younglings.

10. Vertigo
http://www.bodyquirks.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/vertigo.jpg
Now the #1 movie ever made, Alfred Hitchcock truly has impressed. This movie is about love and death, but also the love of death. This movie is so in depth, most people will not get the movie behind the movie because there is so much detail to take in.

Note: A runner up for my foreign film pick was The Orphanage. This movie will let you guess what will happen in the end, but you will never be able to do it. There are clues to the ending throughout the movie but you won't know unless you watch it multiple times. It leaves you stunned at the end and wondering why the character chose what she did. Highly recommended.

Here's my ten cents... (in no particular order)

The Royal Tenenbaums
A Wes Anderson movie starring the great Gene Hackman as the lovably unlovable title character.

O' Brother, Where Art Thou?
A Coen brothers movie starring George Clooney as a modern day Ulysses.

Fight Club
A Chuck Palahniuk story starring Edward Norton during his characters experience with The Paper Street Soap Company.

Kick-A$$
A Matthew Vaughn interpretation of the comic mini-series. This made me take notice of his directing career.

The Godfather (1&2)
No, Goodfellas was not the best gangster story ever, this was. Goodfellas was up there though.

Die Hard (my favorite Christmas movie)
This has been my favorite popcorn action movie for the longest time, closely followed by its sequel, Die Hard With A Vengeance.

Snatch
A Guy Ritchie movie starring Jason Statham about a botched jewel heist. This is not your typical Statham movie.

The Fisher King
A Terry Gilliam movie starring Jeff Bridges as a Howard Stern-esque radio shock Jock whos career takes a dive when his on air antics contribute to a womans death.

The Return of The King
The third act from JRR Tolkien's epic classic. There are three scenes in this film that get me every time.
a) When Faromir puts duty ahead of sanity and knowingly leads a hopeless charge.
b) When Theoden rallies his men to charge insurmountable odds.
c) "You bow to no one..."

Armageddon
Let me start by saying I can't stand Michael Bay movies. What he has done to my Transformers is unforgivable. This is purely a guilty pleasure because I am an immature dad with a (usually) responsible daughter. Also, I can suspend the absolutely absurd abuse of science behind the story and just have fun with the characters.

Because I love animation and my list would have otherwise cut out a lot of what is listed above, I am including the following list, also in no particular order.

The Iron Giant
The Incredibles
Toy Story (all three)
The Secret of Nimh
The Triplets of Belleville
Aladdin
The Lion King
Akira
James and the Giant Peach
Cowboy Bebop

Honorable mention:
Lost in Translation
The Dark Knight
The World According to Garp
Chasing Amy
The Truman Show
Monty Python (take your pick)
The Princess Bride
Yellowbeard
Goodfellas
Papillon
Cool Hand Luke
Patlabor
Robot Carnival
Any Disney animated feature before 2000
Tangled

I'll stop here before my phone dies trying to keep this all in active memory...
