What the hell is this?

Since the new firmware update there has been a singstar option in the games section of the xmb and it is impossible to delete. Apparently I have to download the game to delete it but I'm not sure if that's the case and I don't want it in my download history. What should I do?2012-10-27 08:16:00

....oh you're talking about the PS3 firmware update 4.30. Ok. That took a bit of googling to figure out.

Speaking of googling. (http://www.avforums.com/forums/ps3/1694868-firmware-4-30-singstar-really.html)

Here's the reply I got from Sony

Hi,

Thanks for your e-mail about SingStar.

I understand that you're unhappy at the addition of the new SingStar content which has been added to your PlayStation 3's XMB as part of System update v4.30. This feature has been added to allow PlayStation 3 users access to the wealth of content that SingStar provides at no additional cost. Whilst I understand that this may not be functionality that you plan to use, we believe that it's an enhancement of PlayStation 3's already outstanding multimedia versatility that allows our users to enjoy SingStar without the need to purchase a disc based game.

Once again, thank you for giving us your opinion on this new feature. We value the feedback that we receive from our users on all of our products and services, and I have passed this on to our development teams for their review.

Should you have any further hardware related queries please call PlayStation Support on 0844 736 0595, quoting reference *******, where one of our team will be happy to help you. You’ll find our opening times below, however you might find it easier to speak to our team during our quieter period between 11:00 and 15:00. Calls to PlayStation Support cost 4p per minute from a BT land line however calls from other providers and mobile operators may vary.

Thank you,

Sarah-Jane

Typical Sony. "Hey, have you heard about this new feature? No? Then allow me to SHOVE IT IN YOUR FACE!"

Oh well, it's still better than having advertisements on 90% of the screen like in the new 360 dashboard.

It takes up 100% of the screen with a SingStar wallpaper. It's the default option under the game tab when you start the console without a disc, so it's the first thing you see and replaces any custom wallpaper or theme you might have.

Regarding the update, is it just me or have they swapped the "Sign out" and "Auto sign in" buttons around? I'm sure the Sign out button used to be on top, when you pressed triangle on "Account Management", because when I want to sign out, mu instinct is to press triangle -> down -> x.2012-10-27 15:11:00

I haven't seen it yet because I haven't gone online since September, but I'm assuming that the Singstar stuff vanishes if you move the selector up or down. In the 360 dash, the ads never really go away.

It does sound annoying though, and even Sony must know that no one gives a darn about Singstar. I hope they fix it.

I think what Sony should do is remove the 45 games they give away with PS+, remove the free to play HOME, charge for their online, stop making unique PSN game and halt production of AAA titles like TLOU and GOWA, just so people can put the Singstar Icon into perspective.2012-10-28 20:02:00

Well they're halfway there: they stopped caring about Last Guardian. ;_;

The wallpaper does go away if you move to another icon or tab, yes.

It was better when we had only 1 PlayStation Store icon and no Netflix icons or anything. This SingStar icon is the most obnoxious so far though, it stays huge even after you deselect it and is smack bang in the middle of your games. I hate seeing it every time I turn the console on.

Well then, it's a good job the 360 dashboard is balanced out by being on a better console...

There's no better console. There's only people who like one console better than the other.

You're all jealous because you'll never look as cool as the people on the wallpaper.2012-11-09 17:46:00

SnipySev is right. Opinion is not the same as fact my friend, please recognize the difference.

I haven't been on my PS3 much lately (as I've been busy with classes and assignments and Halo 4 consumes much of my free time), so I haven't noticed it as much as some of you other folks may have, but I could easily see it being as annoying as everyone claims.
