Grapple Battle Arena

Hi everyone, I just want to officially release my first Vita level. It is designed around multiple players but can be run solo. I tried to make something quick, fun, fast-paced, and somewhat old school arcade-y. It's has some unorthodox techniques so please go through the instructions in the beginning. I hope you guys enjoy it. I didn't play much multi-player. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on how it is online.

F4F: Is in full effect so just leave your PSN id and level name after your feedback.

This level was good, but seemed like it could use some fixes. Perhaps it's just me, but I thought that the bubbles were somewhat awkward, and I definitely think score givers for accomplishing a task would be better. Also, there really was not much swinging, which is my favorite part of the grappling hook. Perhaps expand the area to include more places to grapple from rather than just the bottom of the platforms?
Still, good work, and it was quite fun.

ChrisF2112 thanks for playing an the feedback. I'm glad you liked it. I had thought about and the people who play tested the level mentioned the use of score givers. The reason I didn't go with them was that the actual act of grabbing the targets takes very little skill. Having the player have to decide when to grab the target in order to get the bubbles to fall where they want adds another element. This way they can setup up combos(which I am a freak for) to increase their score. Also it keeps the player constantly moving which I think makes the game flow better.

I know there is not that much swinging in the level, but I had to limit it because the grappler would grab static objects over the targets. Also I wanted an old arcade feel to it so I limited the size. But the lower section is the best area to setup combos and it requires some swinging skills to get the 4x 5x multipliers.

I think I may need to update the instructions to mention that the players goals should be setting up bubble combos.

Thanks again for the feedback. It was very helpful.

Hey Xenon!!

Glad to see you got this published. Thanks for giving me a sneak preview by beta testing this last week.

This is a great survivor challenge! Fun and addictive gameplay, that really keeps you moving around and not giving the player a second to catch their breath.

The mechanics behind all this must be staggering. I like all the different ways you can get points. By guiding the bombs to certain targets and destroying the environment, going after the red sponges, etc...

You put alot of thought and effort into this, and it shows.

I have always been a huge fan of your gameplay, and this is no different. I had a blast running through the final version of this today.

What is next for you?

I would love to see a vita version of Ted and Robi. I saw you had their names on the wall of this. Nice easter egg for us psp'ers!!

A well deserved heart, and one for creator too.

Thanks for the kind words VJ! I am glad to see you noticed the mechanics. It was such an unorthodox concept; I spent more time playing the thing and tightening the mechanics than anything else. I had fun making it.

Yeah, it was more of a "learning the creation tools" level than anything else. Thanks again for pointing out my lazy PSP habits. It pushed me to learn the new tools which was a good thing.

The wall was pretty bare so I thought some people would get a kick out of that =)

What's next? I have a huge project that I have a rough draft of in my head. I'm not sure Ill ever do it. Now, I'm working on my take on a level that's been done hundreds of times before in the little big universe. I decided to try and make something popular for a change. But if anyone is able to take a sure thing and get as little of plays as possible its me =D

Hi there !
So I find that's a great mini-game which is pretty challenging and innovative ! I tried it alone but I although had lots of fun playing it ! The bombs are well-thought : they give you the bubbles ... but they may also explode in front of you ! I will try your next levels when they'll be published !

Thanks it really is "out there" as far as concepts go. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it and appreciate the feedback. I can honestly say I spent more time play testing than creating on that level. Ill check out your level soon.

BTW, my second level is already out SUper Mario Brothers Classic. (see link below)

Xenon This level was fantastic. I enjoyed this even as just a single player experience. I would love to try this with other players.

I have given this level a place in the download section on my Vita so that I can play it on the go not connected to the internet.

An amazing and original concept! My only suggestion is to make the red things to grapple a little more floaty but the catch is, if you were to tweak that you would alter the scoring land scape. So that's why my suggestion is so minute because in actuality, my suggestion is probably based on my inability to get a good score lol. But great concept and execution of that concept.

Thanks for giving the level a run and your thoughts. Yeah I have yet to test it with other players as well. But considering how horrible LBPV is online, I am not going to try.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I played around with the floaty-ness of those objects. I decided to leave it with normal gravity to keep the player moving and guessing. They key to getting a good score is dropping bubbles between the upper platforms onto the lower platforms to setup 3x to 5x combos. Thanks for playing and your feedback.

Xenon your "Grapple Battle Arena" is a interesting take on how the grappling hook can be used during a multiplayer challenge. I wasn't quite sure what the UFO was intended for, I noticed it threw out bombs from time to time. Although it didn't really add anything too the level.

Keep up the good work Xenon.

Thanks for playing MordernNomNom. The UFO drops the bombs you can use to destroy the targets. Also the lights on the side of it act as a timer slowly going off as the time ticks down.2013-01-21 17:40:00
