Mines Of Boreas
Thank You For The Spotlight LBPC!!
Do you enjoy levels that have your sackperson sliding, grabbing and jumping all over the place setting off contraptions to allow you to progress futher into the level? i thought so!! so do i!
If you have ever played levels like "Kaleida's maze" by RikiRiki-ita you will know the sort i mean
Anyway! here is my new level which is based upon that style.

Mines of Boreas is set deep in the mountains of an icy wasteland and the cave in which you will be flying about in is said to house a very old treasure that is rather saught after!!
The level requires you to keep up the momentum of your sackboy/girls movements via slippery ice slides, bouncy snow walls, hard stone walls that bash you across the screen and squishy rotating gears that allow you to reach switches and cross large gaps. All the activity in the mine has left it a bit unstable so some of the floor may collapse or sections of mine track may be missing or simply take you straight into a fallen mound of rock. You will need to use your reflexes to quickly react to situations wether it be jumping to a small platform or changing your carts position on a track or even grabbing a hanging switch before you land on some well placed spikes!
I can see this level being quite competitive as many people may replay to try and beat their rivals score and aim for the top of the leaderboard (which i currently reside at!! come and beat me!)
Acing the level will also give the player a nice reward in the form of a giant drill that chases sackpeople! <3 who doesn't love that!?

Now without futher ado here are some pictures to make you evenmore interested! ENJOY! and i hope to see you all beating me off the top spot soon

I was the first to play through this yesterday. Great scenery and atmosphere, fast-paced gameplay along ingenious contraptions. Awesome level. Hearted.
I'll be back for a better score...

It's a very nice fast platforming level in a thrilling atmosphere.
I was not skilled enough to finish it, but I enjoyed playing it.
Good job

Where did you have trouble? i know of one place which i have fixed thanks to some recent feedback (people didnt realise they need to bounce off the wall in order to reach the grab point above the spikes) is there another one i need to make more clear?2012-10-29 14:51:00

man, I played this level yesterday and really liked it. The scenery was fantastic and the pacing was perfect, even in the mine cart area. There are a couple of tricky spots but that just made it all the more fun and satisfying when you finish the level. Outstanding job on this! Tweeted about it this morning so maybe that'll get you 2 more plays. 2012-10-29 17:51:00

thanks for trying to get the word out about it. The lack of plays on this has really knocked me back when it comes to my motivation to create anything else for lbp2. On my moon i have 4 projects nearing completion and yet i can't being myself to finish them because i'm constantly thinking about the disaster of a first week i have had with this one. I may stop lbp2 now and head over to lbp karting... maybe i can make a name for myself a bit more there? after all i work with 3d programs almost everyday so i am pretty sure i can come up with something good on a 3d editor!!2012-10-29 18:47:00

Okay, I really like the cool attitude coming through in the visuals. It absolutely feels like this old wintery mine. The eskimo character you meet at the start has some pretty funny lines which I enjoyed. Now, I don't know if this goes for everyone else, because I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet, but for me the gameplay needed some serious polish. Whenever I died, it seemed like a different contraption went out of whack. I ended up feeling very lost, having to walk through some of it, and then dying unexpectedly, because I couldn't tell whether I was supposed to go a certain way, or if something didn't reset correctly. There weren't enough clear directions on when I was supposed to do something, and when the level was supposed to do it for me. I can see what you're going for with the gameplay, and for it to work, it needs to be EXTRA consistent. I would recommend watching many other people test it. In testing my own levels, I'll know which way to go and what's supposed to work, so I never find any bugs when I play. But, watching someone else quickly reveals all those trouble areas.

Let's see if I can describe something specific. There was an angled bouncepad to the left of a checkpoint, which never bounced me correctly the first time I'd hit it. There was another bouncepad attached to a wheel, which would sometimes be on the wrong layer and I couldn't hit it at all. There was a platform with spikes on one side and a bouncepad on another that would sometimes be swung one way, and sometimes the other. I know there are more, but that's all I can picture off the top of my head. This all must have been early on before the minecart part which I see in the pictures, because I never made it there.

I'll also just add that for my personal taste, I'm not a big fan of these levels which almost play themselves. They always feel more like trial and error rather than something I need to skillfully interact with. That's just me though. Obviously a lot of people like these levels, because I've seen many of them. Actually, that also adds to me not enjoying the experience all the way, when I feel like I'm playing something I've played before. It all started with Kaleida's Maze.... or maybe that was only the first one I experienced.

So, I hope that helps! I'm sorry not to be more positive, but I wanted to give you my complete, honest take on it, because you seem like someone who cares about refining his work. Remember that you don't need to please everyone, and only take the parts of my criticism that are in line with your priorities as the creator!

I got this queued, as you requested. I'll write a review hopefully this evening.

EDIT:
Played your level, it felt pretty unique. Stripped down, it was a fast platformer. But it was so much better than that, your contraptions were wacky, and they all worked nicely for me. It was fun getting shot about on bouncepads, especially bits where I thought I'd be hitting one bouncepad, but then another one pops out in a different direction. Great fun, and kept me on my toes. The theme was cool, as well. Most platformers of this kind are all set in a space-theme. Your's, however, was the complete opposite- an old, cold, wintery mine. Awesome!

A like and a heart from me, great job.

Haha thanks i wanted to set it in a theme which is completley unorthadox and unexpcted unlike the space theme so i am glad you approved!
The contraptions were meant to be as strange as possible, i wanted to make them feel unlike anything anyone had played before in lbp2 because i know i am getting a bit bored of the same old obstacles, a lot of thought went into how they would actually play out as i am sure you noticed
What was your favorite bit? mine would have to be the bouncepads which all come out at once and with each impact one moves in until you are propelled foreward by the right pad as it moves out from the wall... that was fun to put in the sequencer
