Decisions about regional editions

Archive: 2 posts

I'm a PS3 newcomer and instantly purchased the LBP1 GotY Edition. When I bought it via Amazon Marketplace (where the title had a "[UK Import]" suffix) I thought there'll be no problems with DLCs, since I live in Germany and the game is from Europe. Unfortunately it turned out to be the US version and now I have to create a second (US-) account to get the DLCs to work.

My PS3 was bundled with GT5 and LBP2. I wanted to play LBP2 when I have played the first one enough. But since that version is European, I now have no idea what to do in terms of region compability:

I could try to sell my platinum LBP2 copy for about 15 to 20? and acquire the US Special Edition for 30? or I could leave the GotY content behind, use my European version of LBP2 and acquire the LBP1 DLCs I want (the PotC DLC) for LBP2 only.

What would you do? The last option is definately the more convenient one but I don't know if I will miss the content from the first game and the GotY DLCs (Metal Gear Solid level kit, monsters kit and history kit mainly).

With online games/games with online content you are best sticking with the versions tied to your existing online account. Since you have a European account and your version of LBP2 is European then you should stick with that when buying DLC. The cost of the PotC DLC is only a few Euros compared to purchasing a whole new game, and it will be permanently tied and redownloadable via your existing account, and compatible with your existing LBP2 game.

I bought and played LBP2 first and then went back and bought LBP1 to collect all the objects and things. My experience? LBP1 is a kind of fun playthrough but LBP2 is by far the more versatile game. You can still collect objects and materials from regular LBP1 freely via the online community without owning LBP1. The DLC for both games is playable in LBP2 and if you buy ALL the DLC you're worried about missing (Metal Gear, Monsters, History) it sets you back only about 20 Euros. Again, that's all safely tied to your existing account.
