New level, whoop!
http://lbp.me/v/f6mzq4

Its been great fun for me to create, a completely different style to my normal, and some new gameplay elements to fiddle with.

Featuring the brand new 'Minionator' which creates a little minion of yours that'll do everything for you!

I really enjoyed playing this. It's colourful and your characters are quirky and full of...erm...character! I liked the mix of puzzles of platforming too. The minionator was definitely cool!

Unfortunately, though, I got stuck and couldn't finish - undoubtedly down to my stupidity. It was not long after you get given the minionator (love that name btw!). It was at the section in the 6th photo from the top in your post. Having jumped around the piece of wall that's on fire, I got to a bouncepad and needed to jump up to the next level. I could not work out how to do this. The bouncepad didn't seem strong enough to get me to the top and though I tried shooting a minion up the shaft, that didn't seem to work either.

Anyway, what I saw was cool and I'm just sorry that bit of the puzzle had me stumped.

The bouncepad should be strong enough, but you have to time the jump so that whilst you're in mid air, the green+orange wall pushes you onto the front layer so that you can get past the little platform at the top. Was the wall moving in and out, or was it broken?
+you were pretty near the end, although there was still some cool stuff to come ):

Aha, so you went with one of my ideas for the title eh? Looking forward to playing the finished product!2012-10-23 17:47:00

Yay made it to the end! You were right that section worked perfectly once I knew to use the in/out movement to get me up onto the platform to the left.

I really enjoyed the level. Your gameplay ideas were so fresh and inventive and your wacky characters were very funny. I liked the visible logic too - gave it a nice LBP1 feel. Great work!

I can't believe this only has 8 plays. I see you've made the thread a F4F one so I suggest you go and play a few other F4F levels and give feedback to trigger the favour in return. Hope you get the plays you deserve anyway!

Thanks Shropshirelass, a heart from you and a great review is brill! I'm hoping this might get a mention in the spotlight, otherwise I doubt I'll get more than 100 plays ): and liquid, yes, I thought that was the best idea that was came up with, and it's nice and catchy. So thanks!2012-10-24 20:29:00

This was fantastic to play! all the little contraptions were unique and exhilarating to see in a lbp level!
i loved all the custom characters and the quirky story as well as the sackbot working along side you to complete the puzzles that worked brilliantly i must add!
I can imagine you had a lot of fun figuring out all the logic for this level!

Definatley a level to recommend to others! 10/10

If you can please try out my level which can be found here

Nice level you have here bluesteel. I like how you used different materials and yet still made it look right and the level is fun to play. I like how you did the gameplay with the sackbot and making him do things to get you where you needed to go. That was pretty good idea, and on top of that had lbp1 music to really bring out the fun out in this level. It fitted perfect with the theme, and the puzzles were perfect. Good job with this definitely a yay and <3.2012-10-31 03:48:00

Aw guys, thanks for the feedback, It's so nice and warm to have people saying that
Fun? Oh no, this was not fun by the end. I just find it so difficult to create a new gameplay section. I just keep procrastinating for hours, going over and rechecking the level for any bugs, and make sure it's fully stickered. But yes, the characters were so much fun to make, I love this art style, it's great fun.

Somehow the end of any project is never much fun. I think it's because the most fun you have is from brainstorming, and once that's done, it becomes an effort to keep that flame alive while you make everything actually work. Fortunately with LBP, playing your level is constantly a part of the process, from brainstorming to testing. So there's some bit of fun to be had no matter what. That's the main thing that keeps me addicted to it anyway.

Heh, still haven't played this btw, BUT I WILL!

Okay! Played it last night, left you a review. To elaborate:

I love the little world you created. The characters are all really funny in their appearance, and I had fun reading the misspelled stuff. Once I made it to the parts with the minions, I had a very pleasant time! The 'puzzles' involving them are quite clever, and the controls of having them follow, stay, or leave are quickly intuitive, which is great.

The part I got most stuck on was with the walls moving in/out, which push you around barriers. That vertical one, I had NO clue what to do for the longest time. I died there around 12 times and was getting really annoyed. The worst part about it was having to start all the way back when I didn't even understand what was supposed to happen there. So it would be nice to have a little landing platform in front, to ensure players don't die if they miss that jump. A wider, more specific camera there would also aid in diminishing frustration, as we'd be able to gauge what needed to happen better, instead of looking for it when it was too late on that bouncepad.

Another confusing part was the caterpillar that comes out over the fire. He kept coming out and then retracting. I kind of just blindly shot minions toward him until he stayed out. Still not sure how it's meant to work.

The last troubling spot for me was where the minion needs to push that button above to activate the 3 steps, while bouncing back and forth horizontally. For awhile, I didn't even see the bouncepads, and was trying to lead him along. I ended up becoming trapped in front of the 3rd step, behind the 2nd one. Couldn't move anywhere and had to pop myself! Grr. Once I figured out to bounce him back and forth, he moved so fast that making those jumps up the steps that quickly seemed just shy of impossible, and felt like it took me longer than it should have.

In the end, I wished there was a lot more gameplay involving the minions, without as much platforming without them in-between. I actually had a lot more fun leading them around than I did shooting them from the Creatinator, because using it, they become more like glorified projectiles than cute & interesting little creatures.

So, I hope that helps, or gives you some ideas for a sequel! Good work.

Cheers, Liquid. That's a detailed review!
I thought the vertical in/out platform was fairly simple, hmm... And yeah, the bit with the Minion going back and forth activating the button was a lil' tough. I might change it, coz it does require some delicate control on the jump button to make the jumps the perfect height to get to the next platform. With the caterpillar, you were supposed to use the Minion as a sort of 'sackrifice' (worst. pun. ever.) or a bait for the caterpillar. Then you can run along his back, before he retracts.

Ah, I figured it had to be something like that. Maybe you could put something like a dogfood dish (with the caterpillar's name on it) down there to make the concept more clear?

I think all that needs to happen on the sackbot-activating-stairs part is to have him move just a tad slower, either by decreasing the intensity of the bouncepads, or spacing them farther apart. I have no problem with that part being challenging, as long as it's not ridiculously almost-impossible.

No problem! Hey, I just noticed, since this is a F4F thread, perhaps you wouldn't mind leaving some feedback on my Petal Gear (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=75150-%28LBPC9%29-Petal-Gear) thread? Hehe, nah you don't have to. Only if you feel like it mate!

Yeah, I guess I should make it a lil' easier. The reason why the bounce pads are so strong because if I make them weaker, the sackbot won't get to the other one... Maybe I could anti-frictionize the floor with a Material Tweaker.
Turns out I already gave you some feedback on your LBPlanetarium thread, but it wasn't so in depth so I gave you some more on the LBPC thread.

Playing with friction could definitely help! Actually, using that material tweaker, you can get really specific as to just exactly how much friction you need to get the timing feeling just right. Not too easy though!

I had forgotten to check up on my Planetarium post until today. Too many forums!

Played it, and I must tell you you've got a pretty great level in here. Anyway, to a more accurate review:

PRESENTATION
The thread is excellent, so many excellent pics show us the best part of the level, and make you willing to play it. The badge is a bit random but still good. I love self-made characters. Anyway, the title. I think that's the reason you got much less plays this truly desrved. Try to avoid including word such as Grammar in the title, it just make it sound educational, the least thing an LBP player is looking these days.

LEVEL
First of all, I must mention the art. It was so colorfully wonderful. Even though this random-colorful-land theme is a bit overused, this level still seemed fresh to me. The spelling mistakes were fun to read but got a bit annoying after a while, good thing you stopped using that text by the half of the level or so.

Anyway, the true fun starts after you get your lol-I-forgot-the-name-but-it-was-something-as-Minioninator. The puzzles are cleverly designed, the platforming is challenging but for me it was never confusing, and it was generally great. I don't really know what on Earth did a minion generator has to do with the previous story, but I'm glad you included it here. Anyway, a background story for that would have been nice.

The thing I loved the most about this level were its beautifully crafted characters. Some seemed quite odd and random, but the grammar guy and the squirrel-like guy were superb.

THE GRADES

Gameplay 4/5 This gets really interesting after you get the minion-thing. It is smartly designed and feels really original.
Graphics 4/5 Maybe a bit empty at times, but the characters were awesome and the theme was OK.
Sound 3.5/5 Good enough. I loved the Gardens music! Not exactly original, but took me back to the good old days of LBP1.
