Oh No! LittleBig Lemmings! (LBPV)

Evening all,
Not really posted a lot round here as I never actually finished the Jak and Daxter stuff I was working on in LBP2 (started not long after LBP2 came out, still in progress and don't have time to pour into it now I'm getting older - job, house, etc.). Might get back to it eventually but we'll see.

Due to the nature of my job I end up having time to spare at work, so with the advent of LBPV I've got time to create! When I got the 'Gorgeous Hero Hair' it reminded me of a Lemming so I decided to make a little Lemming style outfit for Sackboy. Then I got on to the thought of 'I wonder; can I make a Lemmings style level?'.

Currently I've got one fairly simple stage finished, with only Blockers (the Lemmings that stop, and prevent others from passing) and Bombers - who have a three second countdown before exploding and making a hole in the level around them. Between these two jobs the player can prevent the lemmings dieing a horrible death, and help them reach their goal! (which is currently a piece of hamster tube).
I'll get some screenshots linked into this thread once my Vita has recharged.
I'd appreciate any feedback people may have!

I do fully intend to take this further and create more 'jobs' for the Lemmings like the ones seen in the classic games along with a better interface with touch icons to choose jobs (rather than the current setup which I'll admit is less than brilliant).

Currently I need to adjust my logic to make the sackbots work more efficiently - at the moment they're on patrol mode and need to be thrown off edges using Movers, I'm planning to put a controllinator on them and control their movement using Tags so they'll walk off edges like a Lemming used to!

Description:
Lemmings bombers and blockers - tap to assign a job, press X to make a bomber when you tap, O to make a blocker. Bombers destroy yellow floors and walls, blockers prevent others from passing.Get as many lemmings as possible to the can at the end to score points. Remember to make all blockers into bombers when you're done to end level. Please comment with any bugs found! If this is popular i'll make more!

I tried it and I really just didn't understand the controls. I figured out to touch the lemmings and the side options, but I could not figure out how to make them turn. The graphics could use a bit of a revamp as well. Good start, just needs some better instructions.2012-10-23 19:31:00

I understood the idea and it was really well implemented, didn't really have any trouble with the level. It was only short though which made me sad because more complex levels with more lemmings would have been fun.

The concept isn't new or anything but this is the best interpretation I've played, but it could use a bit of polish. Spruce the level up a bit, make it look attractive rather than just a tech demo. And add more levels. Then this will be one of the best levels out there

If you make a Lemming a blocker, then they'll turn when they hit them. Otherwise they turn when they hit a wall - at least they did for me

Just to mention, I updated the level this morning before work but didn't have time to post on here.
I now have touch based selection for Blockers and Bomber (makes much more sense than the old way of doing things.

I'm currently making the logic a bit more refined - the updated level uses Idle bots and tag switches onto a controllinator, rather than a tag sensor and mover to throw them off edges. It cleared up the levels logic quite a bit which is progress. Trying to get all the logic I can onto the Lemmings themselves so I can make more levels.

Now that I have the level made a bit more efficient I need to work on how it works, and then there will be more levels. Next job is to make the floors and walls into seperate sections so the bombers (and in the future, other 'jobs&apos can break the floor / wall anywhere instead of special sections.

EDIT: Just tested the level and found that blockers weren't working since the new Touch Icon update. Now fixed so all should be working as intended. Also altered the speed to slow them down, for some reason they seemed to have got very very fast!

That would explain a lot. I'm glad it wasn't just me being incapable of figuring the level out.

Glad you let me know, it worked offline but broke when published; all fixed now

Planning to put in the NUKE button next

Fell off my motorbike last night, broken wrist; 2 weeks off work (likely longer following a 2nd xray in 10 days time) so should be making progress with things soon
