Newcomer FAQ's

Archive: 8 posts

Why hello there! If you're on this thread, you're either bored... or a newcomer!
First off, Welcome to LBPC. I'm sure you've already made an introduction Here? (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?6-Introduce-Yourselves)
Secondly, if you haven't already, read Aya042's guide. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=36406-New-to-LBPCentral-Read-this)
Thirdly, if you have any questions just post them here and we'll try to keep them all in one place.

Newcomer FAQ's

What can I do on the site?
Well, you can join in a discussion on nearly any topic, chat to people, take part in Forum games... The list goes on

What is the "Thanks!" button for?
The thanks button is used to.. well, thank a post for being helpful or funny.

How do I get those green bars near my name, and what are they for?
The green bars are given for being helpful on the forum, and making "Thanks" worthy posts.
They're to show you're a helpful member of the site.

What does "Bumping" a thread mean?
"Bumping" a thread is when an old thread is posted on, without contributing new information, to "Bump" it to the top of the given subforum.

How Can I get people to play my level?
Well, you can post your level in the level showcase for a start! Although, be sure to include a level link from lbp.me (http://lbp.me/)

Why is there Lint above my avatar? How can I change it?

This has to do with your post count, and will change when you make more posts. (That does not mean spamming.) (Thanks Nysudyrgh.)

I know this isn't all of the FAQ's we get, but if you have any more I'd be glad to add them to the OP

Thanks for posting this Vale! I think this addresses some common questions that may not be easy/obvious to find for newcomers. Once we get a bit more stuff added and the formatting prettified somewhat we'll figure out what to do with it. 2012-10-19 20:22:00

Seems we have a sticky concerning some of these things, but a more conversational FAQ could be a nice way to present quite a bit of this kind of information.

Nice work!

Nice work!Indeed there is an existing FAQ - by Aya no less - but it's a tad on the tl;dr side. Like you said, it might be nice to have something a bit more at-a-glance.

More than anything, though, this is our big chance to keep Vale busy. Do you think he'd be willing to wash our cars?

I see this one popping up too much aswell.

But you already have Chazz for that. (Although he won't wear the maid uniform.)

What causes e-mail notification to stop being received? When I first signed up I would always get them but now I'll only get one or two just out of no where... I've checked my settings and there correct and I've checked my e-mail and everything seems fine there as well?2012-11-13 06:50:00

What causes e-mail notification to stop being received? When I first signed up I would always get them but now I'll only get one or two just out of no where... I've checked my settings and there correct and I've checked my e-mail and everything seems fine there as well? There are a couple factors. First, and easiest to explain, is that you should check your spam filter to make sure emails aren't ending up in there.

The other factor is that you will only receive one email notification for a subscribed thread since the last time you have logged into the site. So, if you are subscribed to threads A, B, and C, and you haven't checked the board in a couple of days, you will only receive three separate email notifications (one for each thread) no matter how many replies there have been. Once you log back in your notifications are "reset" so to speak and you will once again get notified when there are replies in those threads. Put more simply, the more often you browse the site the more notifications you'll get.

This can all be tweaked within the General Settings (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions) link in your settings page (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/usercp.php).
