Questions about manipulating winch/piston/rod objects

Archive: 6 posts

I've got a couple of questions:

(1) I have a winch attached at to objects at each end, I have the object captured. When I re-use it, how do I change the distance between the two objects without deleting the winch and adding a new one? (I've tried tweaking the max length on the winch, then moving one of the objects but it doesn't work)

(2) I have two object connect by a rod. For some reason I can only move the combined object up and down and only when I pick it up from the rod section (I can't move it left or right).

(1)Try changing the length, and hitting play so it has time to extend.

(2) I'm not sure what the question is.

I'm not sure about the 1st one without taking a look, but as for the second if the rod is set to "stiff" its basically like darkmatter - unless you have everything to do with the rod selected (this included stuff thats glues to other stuff) you wont me moving it much2009-01-13 23:20:00

(1) Thanks! I knew there would be an easy way to do this!

(2) See below

Thanks, that gives me two ways of fully moving the object:

(a) Make the rod 'unstiff' and select it to move the whole connected object around

or

(b) Hit X and drag my popit cursor around the whole object to move it properly

hmm with all these posts about mechanics I'm eager to see what youve been cooking up over there....2009-01-14 13:22:00

Lol, I really would like to divulge some more about it, but I'd like to keep the element of surprise.

I can talk about one of them because I've already posted a question about it on here. It's a light which is initially off but when you shoot it, the light turns on and gradually fades out to black. This process can be repeated and I'm going to use it in a dark section of my level.

I haven't decided whether it will involve the player being attacked by multiple enemies (having to juggle between shooting the enemies and keeping the light on), or if it will involve them negotiating tricky terrain before the light goes out.

So far I have four different inventions (one of which is just cosmetic) they all have mechanical elements to them. All my prototypes are working how I want, I have about 5 or 6 other ideas but I think I'll only prototype 2 or 3 so I can save the others for a sequel.

I've then got the task of designing the layout of the level and decorating it (this part could take me a while - I'm better at gameplay concepts and making mechanical devices than the aesthetic side of things)
