headache inducing lag in create mode due to logic.

Archive: 4 posts

i'm making an overhead gauntlet style fighting game, but when i go to work on the attack combo logic the game freezes on and off. like for half a second it will run properly and then for half a second it freezes. this happens consistently any time i try to edit that circuit board. it functions perfectly when i play test it, it's just when i edit it that it lags. i could get into details but it's obviously complicated and involves several timers, and/or switches and sequencers. i'm just wondering if this is a known issue with this kind of logic and if there is a fix for it. it's not a major issue but it is definitely slowing down the creating process 2012-10-14 02:21:00

Take all your logic off the circuit board and put it on a big slab of material. It should not lag any more. When you're done with the logic, move it back onto the circuit board.2012-10-14 03:12:00

This happens often when chips have a lot of logic / connections on them.

<educated assumption>
The in game editor engine is constantly refreshing to determine the best path for all the signals
</educated assumption>

The only way to really mitigate this is to break your logic into smaller groups and put those into their own chips (sub-chips, if you will). As long as the chip isn't being displayed, the lag won't be a problem. So after you've broken the logic into sub-chips, close all the chips that you are not currently editing. If there a lot of leads into those sub-chips, you will still suffer some lag, but not as bad as if you have all those timers and selectors, etc. being displayed (and the engine constantly attempting to render and map).

Hope this helps!

Cool! I've never tried this! Thanks!
