Tutorials, tutorials and more tutorials. There's a bunch on this very Forum, but here's a link (http://e-mpire.com/showthread.php/124117-LittleBigPlanet-2-Creation-Tutorials-and-Games) with lots.

Furthermore, you have to start the level with a basic idea of what you want, and thinking if it's possible on LBP or not (tip: it probably is!), THEN start creating for real. Also helps to create a "test" level where you test all of your logic and stuff, in order to test the limits of your ideas and the editor, and to get experience. It's unlikely you'll just start creating wonders on your first attempt, so take your time and experiment.

DRAW EVERYTHING first. Sketch it. It is much easier to get gameplay motifs down on paper than in the LBP Editor. ALso, think about this:

You start on a platform of some sorts.

You want to get to platform.

In the way is an obstacle- an obstacle doesn't necessarily have to be a fiery it to jump/swing over. It could be a wall that needs to be lifted up so the player can progress.

There is also a 'risk incentive'- something that is slightly harder to achieve, but it will reward you greatly. For example, a long combo like in comphermc's 'The Button.' The whole thing can be achieved in one massive combo, but the chances of dying whilst doing it so quickly are huge.

Have you played the rest of Riki-Riki-ita's levels? The Essence of Platform ones? They are well worth playing, and can give you lots of ideas. Look at lots of other people's levels and look at all their gameplay sections. Even some of the story mode levels can be used as inspiration.

Another idea is to give the player some kind of ability------------------------------------------------------------------
In Mnniska's 'Hop to it' the player can change layer manually, and loses the automatic layer changing ability. The gameplay is great fun, having to shift layers to avoid a fire trap then shift again so you hit the bounce pads etc...
Or Mnniska's other levels, such as 'Flowerbucket.' In this you don't even get to jump. You have to think about the way bouncy pads can be used to get yourself across obstacles.
Or comphermc's 'The Button' where you get the ability to toggle platforms from in/out, or grabs from on/off. Without this ability, the gameplay would actually be very simple- just running and grabbing. But the button ability makes it so much fun.
Anyways, good luck! And the most important part is sketching!

just wanted to correct that link. While the link does show LBPC's tutorials, it links to an offsite website and takes a wee bit to load. Why not link to the tutorials that are here. Tutorials (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=46908-LittleBigPlanet-2-Tutorials-and-Games)

Being new to creating in LBP can be very intimidating. I'm mentioning these tips assuming you're not very experienced with creating. I remember almost 4 years ago when I was new to it and never imagined I'd be where I'm at today, as in being able to create the things I can now.

Tips . . .

1. First it might be a good idea to take notes on what you want to make. Do you want it to have a story? Do you want it to be gameplay only with no story? Do you want the level to have a certain theme? I open a notepad on my computer to create notes on what I want in the level, and how I want it to play. This includes taking notes on what obstacle ideas I have, or what event will occur at places in the level.

2. There are many creators that would disagree with me on this tip, but I swear by it. I always create with the game paused, and only unpause when I need to test something that moves, then I rewind so everything is back to the way it was before I unpaused. The reason I do this is because it keeps everything neat and clean and makes making changes later much easier.

3. Use the sorting tool in the popit when browsing stickers, decorations, objects, etc. This can make finding stuff that fits your theme easier. In example highlight a category in any of the above named popit sections and press square. You can choose to organize by theme.

4. Get use to the corner editor. The corner editor is extremely useful in shaping your environment, whether the actual platforms themselves or thin layer designs for looks.

5. Logic can be simple or complicated depending on what you're wanting to do. The best thing to do is experiment. You can learn a lot watching tutorials as well. Comphermc has some very good video tutorials for logic and other aspects of create I think you will find very useful. The link below takes you to a list of his tutorials. Each link in the list takes you to the video tutorial. They're easy to follow.

6. Use the different grid snaps to your advantage. Some situations might be easier done switching to a grid snap or some might be better to create with no grid snap. If you want an idea of how the different grid snaps work if you don't understand the listed angles, just place a square block, then turn on a grid snap in the pause menu, then exit and turn the block and you'll notice it turns to specific angles/increments based on what grid snap you have it on.

7. Be sure to save often and backup your level. LBP is a very buggy and unstable game as I'm sure you know. The weirdest things can happen out of nowhere including losing everything you worked on in a level, and not everything that happens is the fault of the player.

There's a lot more tips, but it would be too much to type as there's no end to what you can do. Just experiment with things if you're unsure.
