Code of Princess is a Beat-em-Up RPG hybrid from Atlus that I have fallen in love with. For those of you not familiar, it is pretty much a brawler with RPG elements and the 3-plane layout of LBP that rolls these simple concepts into a surprisingly deep and fun experience. I have had a blast with the several hours I have put into it, and I was wondering if any of you guys had played it yet, and what your impressions were?

Personally, I would give it a 9.5/10.
On the positive side, the controls are great and make sense, attacks work the way you would want them to, and combat gets fast and furious. The visuals are absolutely a treat, and the animation is some of the best I have ever seen in a 2D game. The story, while the usual Japanese fare, is well told here. The characters are fun too, not being unbearable nor annoying as Atlus is prone to do. The voice acting is top notch for 90% of the characters, and the anime style does not get in the way of an otherwise great title.

On the negative side, the frame rate drops below 30 fps when the 3D is on. A strange problem seeing as the 3DS is usually a powerhouse (just look at Resident Evil!) The voice actors are mostly fantastic, but the male cast seems to have not gotten that memo, and just drop off into generic anime style that can drive some people away on it's own. Speaking of anime style, the dialog can get blush educing if you play this out in public! Why do anime games have to have such strange dialog out of nowhere? It isnt funny and it certainly isnt good writing! Code of Princess luckily avoids this type of awkward scripting more often than not, and you can easily forget this is such a Japanese game.

Now, I have more negatives listed than positives, however, the game overcomes these stylistic cons with grace and fun! It is a funny, beautiful, eccentric beat-em-up with something for everybody

This is a bad thing? If anything, this sounds like a game I might actually want to get. That line should be on the positive side.

Also, why do I see Link in a jester's costume?

I like anime just fine, but some jokes and stereotypes dont translate well no matter how good the writing is. It might be funny in Japan, in Japanese, to those who get it, but it is lame and childish at times. IDK, I guess it's just me as a fan of cartoons in general watching a lot of anime because I watch a lot of cartoons all around, but a lot of the anime have jokes and stuff in them that fit this category.

CoP is a great anime game tho. It is Japanese High Euro fantasy, which is one of my favorite genres in all of anime!

Must just be me then, any awkward innuendo based joke is a good joke to me. Then again, I grew up with Rareware games...2012-10-14 08:11:00

Well I strongly recommend this to anyone anywhere of any taste. It is an all around good game with a few aesthetic flaws.2012-10-14 15:32:00

It is well worth $40 IMO. It has so much replay value, and leveling up your fighters for online play becomes almost pokemon like in it's feel.2012-11-12 16:18:00
