Sackbot not registering in certain layers?
Archive: 7 posts
So this is the problem: I'm working on a new level, just one last annoying glitch to get through. The level involves the player taking control of a sackbot with a controlinator placed on a piece of hologram material that follows the sackbot, with followers set to allow change of layer. Now if I try to collect point bubbles in the middle or the back layer it doesn't register! It's a bit strange because I can collect the point bubbles in the front layer without any problems. The score board is also in the back layer and it doesn't register with that either? I recently had to change the settings on the followers to allow in / out movement to fix another bug, I think this has caused the glitch, but if i change the settings back the glitch still remains? Also it makes not difference how thick the Holo is or what layer i sit it in, still nothing in the back to layers? Help! Any ideas?? | 2012-10-13 09:24:00 Author: thespacemonkey187 Posts: 318 |
I suggest replacing the followers. Logic sometimes "breaks" and simply replacing it can be the easiest fix. I've known this to happen most often with emitters, but I've had the problem with other logic too. | 2012-10-13 19:01:00 Author: Pookachoo Posts: 838 |
i remember a friend having a similar issue with this, i believe it has to do with what layer either the bot, controlinator or player are in when the player first gets in. i'd try having the player and bot in back layer and controlinator on back thin layer b4 the player gets in. i'll mess around with it next time i'm on lbp2 to try and find a definitive answer | 2012-10-14 08:35:00 Author: evret Posts: 612 |
It's to do with the layer state of the player when they enter the controlinator. Points are collected around Sackboy when he rides in the controlinator. You have to make sure that when you enter the controlinator, all three layers in front of and behind Sackboy are open. The way it works is that the game remembers the layer state of the player prior to entering the controlinator. If they are in the middle layer, and there is a thin layer blocking them from the back layer, then upon entering the controlinator, the game will think that the back layer is blocked off, and thus no bubbles in the back layer will be collected. Likewise, if Sackboy is behind a layer before entering the controlinator so that layers in front of him are blocked off, then he will not be able to collect any bubbles in those layers. The short of it is to free up any layers in front of or behind. You can still put thin layers in the very front and very back, as these cannot block off layers that bubbles may reside in. | 2012-10-14 16:30:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
@CompherMC - Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, that actually makes some sense now. I should be able to work around this little glitch. Thinking about it though, one problem will still remain. If a player pops while in the controlinator i have no control over where they are when they re-enter the controlinator? thus always leaving this level prone to this glitch? as its a silhouette level 95% of it is played in the front layer, but if a player pops in the wrong part of the other 5% it could block out the whole of the front layer for the rest of the level. I may have to get rid of the pop option? But i would like to keep the popit controls open if possible to allow the player to take photos etc. Is there a way to disable popping but keep the popit open at the same time? | 2012-10-15 07:53:00 Author: thespacemonkey187 Posts: 318 |
The player can still take pictures from the pause menu. | 2012-10-15 19:32:00 Author: Pookachoo Posts: 838 |
