[ENDED] Win a Bug Blaster from Pocket Moon Podcast - The Fake Ad Contest (NA only)

Archive: 34 posts

Do you like cheesy radio commercials? Do you own a NA region PSN account? Have you always wanted a rare Bug Blaster costume? If the answer to all of these questions is a resounding "YES!!!", then this is just the contest you've been waiting for.

http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/PMP20Fake20Ad20Contest.png

The Rules

Create an AUDIO ONLY radio-style advertisement for anything you like, up to 30 seconds in length. Advertise a made-up product or imitate an ad that actually exists. Make up an advertisement for your level, for our show, for anything.

Create your fake ad by any means you wish. You can record a simple voice memo with your iPhone, or you can break into full-fledged audio mixing with background music and sound effects - the sky is the limit. Advertisements can also be created in-game using LBP2 or LBP Vita, but of course we will only be considering the audio portions of your work.

Your fake ad MUST include a mention of your PSN somewhere in the audio. The advertisement can be "Brought to you by [your PSN]", or maybe your PSN can be the name of a fake corporation. Anything goes, as long as your PSN makes it into the ad somewhere.

When your entry is ready, send the completed file (or link) to PocketMoonPodcast@gmail.com.

It would be very helpful indeed if you could also give me a heads up on Twitter @tross13 (http://twitter.com/tross13).

Helpful Things

Humor is a major factor in this contest, so do your best to make us laugh. Remember: When it comes to advertising, cheesier is better. Your fake ad does not necessarily need to be in English but we do need to know what it's about, so be sure to at least include a transcript in English.

We'll accept your fake ad in just about any format, provided we can convert it to audio. MP3 format files are highly preferred but not necessary. You can submit any kind of audio or video, YouTube link, LBP.me link (to your in-game creation)... pretty much anything really. If you're still not sure how to send us your fake ad, shoot us a PM and we'll work out the details.

The Deadline

You have ONE WEEK to create your fake ad! (omgz PANIC)

Entries must be received no later than 11:00pm GMT on Thursday October 18th.
(7pm Eastern, 4pm Pacific)

Entries longer than 30 seconds in length will not be considered.

Then What?

We're glad you asked! We will be selecting our favorite fake ads from the list of entries and we'll play them on the show when we record Pocket Moon Podcast Episode 30. That's right, you might be famous!

Entries will be judged by amazingflyingpoo and Taffey, hosts of Pocket Moon Podcast, and the winner will be awarded a code for a NA region Bug Blaster costume. Yay for free stuff!

We can't wait to HEAR what you come up with. Ready... Set... Advertise!

Can't wait to see what you come up with bio. I'm cracking up just imagining it.

Woah! This is the most creative contests I've seen EVAH. Not sure if I've got my cheesy-ad-director personality equipped right now, I'll go check out in my Tools Bag and see if I can come up with something.2012-10-10 02:07:00

Very unusual idea for a contest. Don't expect me to enter because I'm in the E.U region in case anyone is wondering.

Anyway, whatever happened to those Bug Blasters that were promised to those of us in the LBP2 beta.
The LBP2 beta was the only beta that I got to participate in so the fact that they weren't sent out has disappointed me a lot.

The last time a Bug Blaster was given, it was given after the beta to a notorious troll (who was under 18 when the beta was going on) purely out of special treatment. Who knew that you could be rewarded for being an online troublemaker?

That aside, if you're from the NA region, then this your chance to earn the Bug Blaster that you never received from the LBP2 beta. Good luck.

For the lbp2 ones, Steven said he'd replace the invalid code I received (this was back in January and on his first day of work =p) from the lbp2 beta when he had access to more codes, however he seems to have gone silent to any other messages I sent after that one so I'd say it's not looking hopeful... I and about 4 others were given codes by Spaff for helping with a super bug and we've all been waiting 2 years for replacements... not sure about any additional codes though.

remember Steven... you promised... I have the Pm's saved =p

but yeah, the whole bug blaster situation is a real mess, it's good to know at least 1 lucky person will get one, good contest... but Scotland o'er here.

As if that explains everything.weirdy, it would pretty much make my decade if you were to submit an entry just for fun. We already have a few of those coming in from non-NA regions. I've even thrown one together myself, if nothing else than for the public humiliation.

N.A. only? Aughh!

Oh, well. Here's a taste of what you would have heard — a first draft of the audio script for my (undoubtedly competition-winning ) advert:

Fade in on MUSIC — something relaxing, reassuring, and slightly sci-fi — a Brian Eno track might do the job here, if budget permits —

Then we hear the NARRATOR — a male voice, authoritative yet friendly — a little avuncular — solicitous —

"Do you play LittleBigPlanet Vita...?

"Are you frustrated and stressed by how long it often takes for levels to load...?

"Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was some way to just skip all that wearisome waiting?"

MUSIC becomes rather dramatic, and animated.

"Well…now there is. Let me introduce to you to —

"HAPPYWORM LABORATORIES CRYOGENIC TANKS.

"Yes, once you're the owner of a Happyworm brand cryogenic tank, the days of interminable delays while LBPV community levels load are gone. Simply choose your desired level on the Vita, then enter your specially prepared cryogenic freezer. Select one of three simple time settings — 5 years, 20 years or 100 years — and then find yourself instantly pushed by our miraculous technology into a dreamless, ageless sleep. The cryogenic tank will automatically defrost and wake you at the end of your chosen time setting, and upon emerging you'll find your chosen LBPV level ready and waiting for you to play!

"Thanks to exciting new developments in cryogenic science — and an imaginative interpretation of Federal regulations — cryogenic tanks are now within reach of the average middle-class family, and Happyworm Laboratories are committed to bringing you the best and safest technology that you can afford. Our cryogenic tanks already have the stamp of approval of the prestigious Space Corps, and were were used in their (sadly ill-fated) Sirius 23 mission. And now you can have your very own personal freezer, from just $99.99. Our sales team are waiting — call now!"

Finally, in a different voice, deeper and much, much quicker:

"$99.99 price point refers to head-only cryogenic suspension; full-body freeze may cost more. Happyworm Laboratories are not responsible for LBP servers and do not guarantee that your chosen level will, in fact, be loaded when you emerge from your tank. Cryogenic sleep carries a small risk of face-hugger attack; also a small risk of waking to find the planet has been been conquered by apes; Happyworm Laboratories refuse any and all liability for such incidents."

How does the region-locking of PSN vouchers work, anyway?

Reason I ask, I've got a spare Motorstorm RC code that you're welcome to use in a competition, if you like. Maybe you could even award the code to one of the Fake Ad contest's European entrants, as a kind of runner-up prize, if you don't think it's too late? (Yes, I know that in America, Motorstorm RC is given gratis to Vita owners as part of some kind of government-subsidised, socialised-gaming initiative, but we're all strict capitalists here in Europe, we strongly disapprove of your communistic, American-style, free game shenanigans, and Motorstom RC has always ? quite rightly ? cost us money. :tophat: )

I'm taking for granted that a PSN voucher from a European country can be used in any other European country, but perhaps that's not the case. Can anyone shine a light on this?

The voucher was part of a Vita bundle that I purchased a couple of months ago, in a Dublin shop. Small print says that the code is "issued and redeemed" by Sony Network Entertainment Europe Ltd., expiry date is March 2013, but I don't see a mention of any region restrictions.

Just a quick heads up that you only have two days left to submit your entries! Email your audio files (or lbp.me links) to PocketMoonPodcast@gmail.com.

We might be able to make that work. Much appreciated.

Can anyone shine a light on this.As far as I understand, as long as you're within the region in question the code will work. I found this tucked away in a corner of the Internet, and it sounds right:

Basically, The world is split in to 6 Regions:
0 Informal terms meaning "worldwide".
1 Canada, United States; U.S. territories; Bermuda
2 Western and Central Europe; Western Asia; Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho; United Kingdom, Turkey, French overseas territories
3 Southeast Asia; South Korea; Taiwan; Hong Kong
4 Australia; New Zealand; Oceania; Central and South America; Caribbean; Mexico
5 Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Africa, Central and South Asia, Mongolia, North Korea.
6 China
(Source - Wikipedia)

It's worth noting that I have not been able to actually confirm this (on Wikipedia or anywhere else), but there you go.
