Electric Shuffle (My First level)

Archive: 13 posts

Just wondering if anyone could play my level and check it out, I have taken previous reviews into consideration and have made the level a lot easier. I am trying to get the 40 plays trophy so if you could check it out that would be great. Also if you have any idea how to improve it let me know!

The idea behind it is that Hirutown has been taken over by MALCPU and his minions and sack boy must defeat them with the help of Detective Static. I know its kind of a cheesy story and the first level is kind of an introductory one but I plan on further developing the story with future levels. Basically it was just me playing around with basic logic on enemies and trying to make a really fun plat-former.

I've got it queued and will play it some time today.

If you edit your initial post with the lbp.me link into it it'll increase your odds of people playing (in case they don't bother to scroll down and check if its in a later post)

Alright, I've played it now and here's my review:

The game is pretty well made, and has some really good decorations in places too. There are 1 or 2 places that look rushed, though. Also, that big green sponge thing you need to grab that tells you to let go at the glass place; its not very user friendly, and kept spamming chat at me whilst i figured out i had to grab it. If you could maybe delay it floating with a grab sensor that'd make it easier to figure out.

now also, there's a couple of places where you can skip puzzles entirely by switching into a different layer to avoid them. To fix this just place some material to block off layers you don't want used (even invisible material if necessary.)

And finally the rotating boss that fires plasma: this boss was pretty awkward to fight. There's no real indication when he's going to shoot, or where the emitters are placed with him rotating around so much, If you could mark where his emitters are with some fake fun turrets or something, and also maybe put a visible timer showing how often he'll shoot, that'd make him much more user friendly.

I enjoyed the variety of puzzles and it kept my playing carfully throughout, also there was a good number of score bubbles to give some real variety in the score boards.

I look forward to seeing your next creation

OK I have updated it and taken what you all have said into consideration, I know it still needs a little work and I am working on the boss battles particularly on the final one but I have so many wires everywhere it gets really confusing. Does anyone know a way to make a boss move left and right while floating or in a circle without using the motion recorder because for some reason doing that makes it kind of jerky which I can't seem to fix.2012-10-08 20:07:00

I'm not very experienced with trying to make something like this, but perhaps combining a piston for left-right and a winch for up-down movement, ensuring the piston isn't set to stiff, then the timing ir worked out right?2012-10-08 22:41:00

Interesting idea will have to try that out I was trying to use movers before and set the power to left/ right but for some reason it will not go left it just goes rights and smacks into the wall, will try your idea though.2012-10-09 00:40:00

Are you trying to move it in a circle, or just back and forth?
Just back and forth should be easy with movers, just set a timer that resets itself to a toggle, and have the on input of the mover (on/off) move it right and the off input go to another mover to move it left (also on/off). If you want it to slowly speed up and down that's also possible, but it will take a bit more analog logic.

I believe what you're trying to do can be done with frosty_greenacre's advice except I personally would make the pistons attached to some random rectangle and set to stiff and put the winches on that rectangle to the thing you are moving. (but that's just me since i've never tried the other way) Pistons are horizontal, winches vertical in the design i just described.

Okay so I think it have it figured out for the most part now, after tinkering around I decided that the motion recorder was the best bet. With the other methods the boss kept slamming into the cannons that I made to show where the plasma shoots out once you grab the sides off of him. I also added a brief multi-player puzzle and a race, along with several hidden bubbles that use touch/ grab.2012-10-10 05:41:00
